Molluscum - end of my tether!!

Tillymint10 · 02/08/2022 07:36

As above …. Fucking molluscum!

They seem to be spreading like wildfire, I think they look better then oh no theres 2 more! Also now seeding to new sites & I am petrified of them ending up on DCs face!

I feel like I have taken every approach possible, militant about towels, not touching, keeping them covered (lots on arms so feel like a wicked witch with long sleeve tops in the heat!) 8 hour cream ….. and then also ignoring & trying to forget about them!

Unfortunately the arm ‘crop’ 🤢now surrounded by eczema so being itched and at risk of spreading!

Not bothered with GP as of course they will say nothing to be done

Ive not actually tried mollenol/molludab but am about to drop 70 quid on an order of mollenol patches from the US, before I do, has anyone tried the above or got any other tips?

These fucking things are a massive source of stress!!

They will go eventually but they are a right pain!
If we had them now I would give the thuja remedy a go as it shifted a persistent varruca

waterlego · 31/08/2022 16:02

My son had loads of them and the GP said to ignore them and they’d eventually go. 18 months later, they were still there and more were appearing so my husband started going at them with a sterile needle. He’s just do 4 or 5 each evening before bed. Don’t know whether he managed to get the Motherspot, or whether it was just the action of beginning to tackle them that alerted the immune system to the fact they were there, but they all cleared up fairly soon after that. DS does have some little scars and also scars from chickenpox but they’re very small and silvery and only noticeable when he has a tan (even then, it’s not the sort of scarring that is going to be very noticeable to anyone who isn’t looking for it, IYSWIM).

He was older than the OP’s DD when he had them though and is pretty good with pain and medical procedures, not sure attacking them with a needle would work so well for a two year-old 😕

BettyOBarley · 31/08/2022 16:02

DD (8) has this, all down one arm only and it's been about a year now. It's started with 3 on her leg which have now gone, but unfortunately hasn't started the response to get rid of the rest. If they weren't the "mother spot" I don't know which is. She's a total softy as well and won't let me squeeze any!
She's started picking them recently as well having left them alone until now so a few more have popped up.
DS now also has had 1 spot for a few months but no more. Wonder if some kids are more susceptible (or his will start spreading soon 🫤)

Haggisfish3 · 31/08/2022 17:02

I definitely think there is a genetic vulnerability to it, and that it makes them more vulnerable to warts and verri as as well. Totally anecdotally but it’s my feeling.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 31/08/2022 17:08

It pained me to do this as I was a staunch disbeliever (and still can't get my head around it) but I was so desperate with DDs molloscum that I went to see a local homeopath...and they were gone within about 4 weeks.

Could be a coincidence - but I told a friend whose DD had suffered from the very badly for almost 2 years (and hadn't been swimming in as long as she was too embarrassed) and they had the same result.

Rainallnight · 31/08/2022 22:48

Interesting @inigomontoyahwillcox Am also a staunch disbeliever but had dreadful trouble with a wart in my youth and took Thuja and it disappeared. So I’ve been wondering along the same lines…

@Tillymint10 that’s so disappointing to hear about your Mollenol patches! I’ve got some in my shopping cart but am in two minds.

I do think GPs are wrong to just write this off. DD is coming up in absolutely loads of pus filled spots at the moment and she is SO distressed by them. She has a pretty low threshold for blood, discomfort etc anyway, bless her, and she’s just been beside herself with all this. And they’re definitely going to leave scars on her legs 🙁

Aworldofmyown · 31/08/2022 22:59

As others have said. After two years for us the only thing that worked was a sterile needle. I did it whilst he was asleep.

Rainallnight · 31/08/2022 23:02

@Aworldofmyown So do you just stick the needle in and take it back out again? Or do you have to dig around looking for the middle and extract that?

853ax · 31/08/2022 23:02

Oh we tried everything so not sure what it was that actually worked in the end.
But thankfully has been over a year since any in our house. So my only input really is to let you know they do go away.
The child who never touched them definitely got less but still lasted quite a long time.

We used Thuja from Holland and Barrett. Tiny homeopathic tablets that cleared them up in a couple of weeks... also used them for a verucca too.

This got rid of my 23 warts that I had on my hands as a teen.

My son had Molloscum all over his face for months. In the end I sterilised a needle and got at the biggest hoping it was the queen. Got everything out of it then also gave the rest of his face a good scrub with a rough towel to agitate and that did finally get rid like a pp said, very quickly cleared up after that.

Ledkr · 31/08/2022 23:10

I gave my dd a homeopathic tablet called thuja.
A great weeks later they went scabby. One for infected and I had to lance it and it was full of pus. Then they all disappeared almost overnight.
You can buy it on amazon. It cleared up dd1 verruca as well.

It really didn't. Homeopathic tablets don't contain any active ingrideints. It's just sugar, it can't clear up anything.

Iamblossom · 01/09/2022 19:06

Higher Nature Colloidal Silver spray. Got rid of it completely in both my kids. You can get on amazon.

ItsNotNormalLove · 14/09/2022 05:42

Just as a point of interest regarding the homeopathic 'remedies'... when I was a child my mother was obsessed with homeopathy. Every illness, injury, bruise or infection I ever got she 'treated' it with homeopathy instead of taking me to a doctor or hospital.
As an adult I've been in therapy (unrelated) and when this came up I was told my mother was guilty of serious neglect because homeopathy has been completely debunked, it doesn't work and if it appears to work it's just coincidence. That woman left her child in pain, giving pills with nothing more than sugar in them, instead of seeking actual medical help.

I recommend reading all the way to the bottom here www.nhs.uk/conditions/homeopathy/

Oblomov22 · 14/09/2022 05:55

Pick them. Open it up. Then apply molludab. Which stings. But it's the only way I've ever known the get them to go, by the body also fighting it itself.

Fraaahnces · 14/09/2022 06:02

It’s awful isn’t it? I used the strongest benzoyl peroxide cream I could on mine. It dries up the blisters and stops them spreading. Obviously if the blisters are on mucosal areas or genitals this is not advisable. I did spread it on larger infestations and then dotted on individual spots. It actually worked really quickly, too.

raspberrycordial · 14/09/2022 06:22

I used thuja cream and then added thuja tablets and that worked very quickly on my daughter. My son then came up with them and despite the same treatment nothing worked so I popped all of them and squeezed the little pearls out and he never got another-I know that's not the advice we're given but they are horrible and it had been nearly a year.

Rainallnight · 18/09/2022 07:44

We’re two days into Thuja cream and tablets here (while waiting for the Mollulon to arrive from Australia or wherever) and seeing a big improvement.

I believe in science, I know there’s no evidence base for this, and I would never use homeopathy for anything serious.

Tillymint10 · 02/08/2022 12:35

Thanks everyone

Unfortunately DD is only 2 so difficult to get sufficient cooperation for picking and plucking otherwise I definitely would!

Think I will try some molludab but need the eczema to clear up first as otherwise it’ll be very stingy and sore!

The ‘motherspot’ actually went red/scabby & disappeared after approximately 3 months but unfortunately didnt seem to provoke a reaction in the others
We have had a few disappear but more continue to pop up! Its so strange as some never develop beyond tiny little dots then disappear, others are massive, sore & unsightly!

As a PP mentioned, DD has had bad chickenpox with the molluscum but no effect unfortunately

I do cover with plasters but it seems to irritate and attract more scratching/itching/spreading 🤬

Sorry, I think I wanted to rant as much as looking for solutions!!

We have no other DC and at the point they started had never been swimming/soft play, so no doubt contracted from the cesspit that is nursery!!

I know this is from a while ago now, but I am allergic to plasters - they make me itch and can cause blisters if in for too long. Try something like micropore instead to rule that out!

ItWillBeDone · 18/09/2022 08:28

Molludab worked here. We decided to use it when nothing else worked and they were spreading towards DC's face. Definitely stung though 😥

Rainallnight · 18/09/2022 09:54

Question about Molludab - the instructions say not to use them on inflamed spots but it seemed like lots of DDs’ spots are inflamed, and she picks them. Has anyone used it in this situation?

BettyOBarley · 28/09/2022 12:50

Just wanted to update and say following this thread I tried neat tea tree oil on DDs spots and within 4-5 daily applications they all became inflamed and are now almost gone! 🙌
Possibly a coincidence as she had squeezed a few and pulled out the core, so it could have been that which made her body recognise them, but for £3 a bottle it's worth a try for others!

Crumpetty · 28/09/2022 23:50

Teat tree oil - cream version - from pharmacy, after weeks of no treatment on doctors advice, we tried this (pharmacist recommended), worked within a week! Good luck

Tillymint10 · 29/09/2022 10:32

Update from me - for info DC has mega sensitive skin - think this is virtually 2 months after starting treatment

  • Mollenol plasters - basically burnt the skin underneath them, presumably the clove oil/tea tree was too irritating. Also found they kept moving/coming off as they were so thick they didnt flex with movement. Had no effect on the fuckers As a result didnt bother with the Mollenol liquid All in all approx 80 quid down the drain

Also since the irritation, it seems to have induced a plaster allergy/sensitivity. Everytime I have tried to use one since (all sensitive/different brands including Micropore) it causes massive irritation, of the whole limb for example not just the immediate area 🙄

  • Molludab - definitely worked! Although a lot more slowly than other posters seemed to experience. Due to new molluscum popping up we are now onto our third bottle 🙃 each bottle should apparently only be used for 2 weeks from opening & I did stick to this. It says allow 1-4 weeks from finishing treatment to disappearance, but some took as long as 7 weeks to start scabbing/crusting over (some are still yet to drop off but have gone sufficiently manky to know they will) Just have 2 left to go …. As long as no more pop up! But keeping the faith that these should go the same way!
