Molluscum - end of my tether!!

Tillymint10 · 02/08/2022 07:36

As above …. Fucking molluscum!

They seem to be spreading like wildfire, I think they look better then oh no theres 2 more! Also now seeding to new sites & I am petrified of them ending up on DCs face!

I feel like I have taken every approach possible, militant about towels, not touching, keeping them covered (lots on arms so feel like a wicked witch with long sleeve tops in the heat!) 8 hour cream ….. and then also ignoring & trying to forget about them!

Unfortunately the arm ‘crop’ 🤢now surrounded by eczema so being itched and at risk of spreading!

Not bothered with GP as of course they will say nothing to be done

Ive not actually tried mollenol/molludab but am about to drop 70 quid on an order of mollenol patches from the US, before I do, has anyone tried the above or got any other tips?

These fucking things are a massive source of stress!!

My youngest had them. We followed medical advice and left them alone, but they just got worse and worse. So we put some Betadine on the ones behind his knees, it caused a eczema type reaction and then they all cleared up. I think the immune system needs to recognise them before it clears the virus.

I know how homeopathic works thanks 😊

you mean you know how it does not work

Very predictable response.

Very predictable response.

Obviously, as its the only rational response. Science is like that, one thing happens, we can say what will happen next.
Like what happens when you take sugar pills...nothing happens next.

Science is great.

DollyBantry · 02/08/2022 11:41

I wasn’t prepared to leave them alone as suggested by the Gp, so I went for Molludab and a large packet of chocolate buttons.
The body really does have to see them to react to them and fight the virus away, so you need to provoke an inflammatory response.
Molludab definitely worked for us, it stopped the spreading immediately. My DS had exploding spots and dermatitis for a few weeks, my DD’s reaction was less exciting and we were able to pull each core out with tweezers after a bath (yuck).

Molloscum sucks. Bang it on the head asap.

Tillymint10 · 02/08/2022 12:35

Thanks everyone

Unfortunately DD is only 2 so difficult to get sufficient cooperation for picking and plucking otherwise I definitely would!

Think I will try some molludab but need the eczema to clear up first as otherwise it’ll be very stingy and sore!

The ‘motherspot’ actually went red/scabby & disappeared after approximately 3 months but unfortunately didnt seem to provoke a reaction in the others
We have had a few disappear but more continue to pop up! Its so strange as some never develop beyond tiny little dots then disappear, others are massive, sore & unsightly!

As a PP mentioned, DD has had bad chickenpox with the molluscum but no effect unfortunately

I do cover with plasters but it seems to irritate and attract more scratching/itching/spreading 🤬

Sorry, I think I wanted to rant as much as looking for solutions!!

We have no other DC and at the point they started had never been swimming/soft play, so no doubt contracted from the cesspit that is nursery!!

We tried everything all at once.. plasters, squeezing biggest one, Epsom salt baths, Moludab etc etc and they went ! Good luck

You've made your point 😊

Toosadtocomprehend · 02/08/2022 14:40

Two of mine had it 25 years ago.Just ignored and they disappeared after about a year!

custardbear · 02/08/2022 14:43

I'm not sure I'd suggest this but we picked a couple of them to start an immune response, which worked - they were gone in a week or so

DD now has these spot patches, for normal spots, if my kids had MC now I'd try those to see if they have an affect

fiorentina · 02/08/2022 14:47

We used Molludab and picked a couple - I did this when he was asleep and the body did react and they all went soon after.

MotherE · 03/08/2022 09:33

With three children all with molluscum in various stages and states we had a nightmare of it during lockdown. Molludab was Ok but harsh. Mollenol lotion was good and the mollenol patches were excellent, real game changer. Our eldest and the original infectee still gets them during summer. They seem to lay dormant and then little bumps re-appear. We now get them under control with some apple cider vinegar wash and our trusty mollenol bottle before they get too big. 😎

unicormb · 03/08/2022 09:41

Get one of those wart freezing pen things and freeze them.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 03/08/2022 09:41

Apple cider vinegar can be successful in getting it under control. Dab some ACV onto the spot and leave it to dry. It will dry out the skin around the molluscum as well but persevere. Have a Google for other people’s ideas for using it.

FixTheBone · 03/08/2022 09:45

All 7 of my kids had this.

We ignored it.

Now they don't have it anymore.

Rainallnight · 27/08/2022 20:43

@Tillymint10 Did you have any success with any of this? I’m at my wits’ end with DD and repeatedly infected spots.

YoniHuman · 27/08/2022 20:57

I'd never heard of it until DS had it when he was around 6/7.
Same story, the doc told us to leave it, and it spread all over his legs.
i tried the banana peel method with a piece of duct tape over the larger ones overnight. It definitely helped and it wasn't painful.

ThiefofTime12 · 27/08/2022 21:04

Well, Thuja tablets worked for my two DD.

YingMei · 27/08/2022 21:09

Both my DC had this under their armpit and down one side, both when they were 5/6 years old.
I used molludab successfully both times. Bloody expensive but it was gone within a couple of weeks.

Soberfutures · 02/08/2022 08:32

Find the mother spot. Usually the first and biggest and use a needle to pop/pick it. If u can squeeze it and open it up. The body will then realise it is there and create a reaction to the rest. My son had them for a year and once I realised this they cleared in over a week

We did this and it worked

@Tillymint10 Did you have any success with any of this? I’m at my wits’ end with DD and repeatedly infected spots.

So I ordered some mollenol paint & patches from the US but they have taken a while to get here, so havent started with those yet

In the meantime I started using molludab which I got from amazon about 26 quid

I just used the molludab on the legs to start with as the arms were also surrounded by eczema so thought they would be too painful (molludab is hydrogen peroxide)

You apply the molludab for 2 weeks or until you get inflammation, so think it took about 10 days for them to become inflamed. Now we are approx 10 days on from
that ….. the spots on the lower leg have scabbed and fallen off & the spots on the upper leg appear to be starting to dry out & going white, so I am hopeful they will disappear soon too 🤞🏼
It does say 1-4 weeks after stopping the application so suppose need to be patient!

BUT the other big thing is that it appears to have provoked a reaction in several of the big spots on the arms (which Ive not yet treated) a couple have dried up and fallen off!!

Unfortunately a few more have popped up at new sites (give me strength!!!!) but I know they take 8 weeks from infection to appearing so obviously these were already in the pipeline!
Am about 3/4 days into molludabbing these and am getting some redness starting to appear so am hopeful!

The eczema is still raging around the main arm site so am
going to try the mollenol plasters and will report back on those when Ive tried them

With regards the the pain when applying the molludab - DC is 2 & complained maybe 4/5 times in total across all of the spots/applications that it felt ‘spiky’ when applying to 1/2 spots - but only for a couple of seconds and nothing major at all, nothing like I was expecting, literally forgotten after 5 seconds

Sorry for the essay but thought Id include as much info as possible!

In summary, the molludab is 100% helping & I would recommend
I will report back on the final review for the molludab & mollenol after the 4 weeks have passed for anyone reading in the future!

Spot plasters! The little clear ones! Put them on each spot and leave for 3 ish days, remove, clean, molludab and replace with another plaster. Worked for my daughter

MotherE · 29/08/2022 09:15

Yes, we have used Mollenol patches. They are really good for bigger molluscum that has pus inside. we also used the liquid mollenol at the same time. Big spreading infection of one of my kids took several weeks to get on top of.

Haggisfish3 · 29/08/2022 09:40

It’s so frustrating that nhs website still says it’s a minor thing. Ds has it and every spot got massive and red and has left a scar. It’s clearly not just a minor thing for a lot of kids.

pyjamadayo · 29/08/2022 10:49

Banana skin then duct tape over each area and keep on for as long as possible then repeat.
