Molluscum - end of my tether!!

Tillymint10 · 02/08/2022 07:36

As above …. Fucking molluscum!

They seem to be spreading like wildfire, I think they look better then oh no theres 2 more! Also now seeding to new sites & I am petrified of them ending up on DCs face!

I feel like I have taken every approach possible, militant about towels, not touching, keeping them covered (lots on arms so feel like a wicked witch with long sleeve tops in the heat!) 8 hour cream ….. and then also ignoring & trying to forget about them!

Unfortunately the arm ‘crop’ 🤢now surrounded by eczema so being itched and at risk of spreading!

Not bothered with GP as of course they will say nothing to be done

Ive not actually tried mollenol/molludab but am about to drop 70 quid on an order of mollenol patches from the US, before I do, has anyone tried the above or got any other tips?

These fucking things are a massive source of stress!!

My daughters legs were covered in them and they would get infected and HUGE. I had showed doctor the first time I noticed the Mothership Spot...the first. They were not bothered and told me to leave it....a year later her whole leg was in a mess. So annoyed at the doctors for that.

Then she spread them to my baby, who was COVERED in them. All over her nappy area, arms, body, legs....not as big, but soul destroying.

In the end, I pulled them out with numbing cream and kept everything clean. Got quite skillful with tweezers as you have to get it all out...it looks like a brain when you get it all out. Plus lots of emollient to keep eczema at bay.

I don't recommend that but I was losing my mind. My youngest still has them but not as bad so I've ignored them. But I'm 3 years in.

Eslteacher06 · 02/08/2022 08:46

So weird i didn't notice someone else use the term 'motherspot' lol.

Oh and I'd never heard of it until my daughter had it.

VenusFairy · 02/08/2022 08:47

My DD had them whilst at nursery - lasted 18 months but told by GP that there is nothing you can do but allow them to run their course. It's was awful - especially around her armpit area!!! I remember they were sore and got caught all the time.

We never touched them and, as I've mentioned, they had disappeared within 18 months. Thankfully they've left no scarring etc.

Hope it resolves soon - never knew such a thing existed until DD had them!

Tdcp · 02/08/2022 08:50

My daughters had them for 6 years, she gets a lot, then they die down then she gets a lot again. GP said it's an immune system thing, I've tried basically everything but nothing's ever really helped unfortunately!

DD had them in the back of her knees for about 18 months. This sounds brutal, but I punctured the biggest one with a pin, and squeezed it. Gave it a good clean, and covered it in Sudocreme. Both knees cleared up in a few days.

My friend swears by this method, worked on both her kids.

Velvetbee · 02/08/2022 08:59

Neat tea tree oil on a cotton bud once a day. The centre goes dark red, the whole thing dries out and drops off.

Mammyofonlyone · 02/08/2022 09:10

I took my daughter to a homeopath. After the third visit they all started to swell up and then disappeared in under a week

OnaTraintoSaltLakeCity · 02/08/2022 09:15

My dd had hundreds for at least 3 years . GP told us to ignore

Friend who was GP told me to burst to create a reaction which I did each night for about 2 weeks when she was asleep. Gone within the month

Anjo2011 · 02/08/2022 09:16

My (now) 11yr old dd had them for over a year. We tried lots of different things mainly recommended on other threads on mumsnet. What we realised is that there was a ‘mother’ spot which was always the main one, when this erupted others would appear, mainly on her arms. In the end we used to remove the pearl in the mother and the other spots , dabbed with tea tree and covered with a plaster. This worked in the end. She hasn’t had any for a year or so, but she does have a few scars from them. I would also suggest keeping nails very short to avoid scratching and transfer of the infection.

ittakes2 · 02/08/2022 09:16

Do you know those mosquito bite zappers that give you a tiny electric shock? My theory is if you use them close by they will trigger your immune system to ‘see’ the mollusc. We ended to burning off as some did end up on one of my kids faces - we had to use an immune cream for those.

LumpyandBumps · 02/08/2022 09:30

I have to admit I had never heard of this, and had to Google.

Sounds awful, and hope you manage to find a solution.

Madamecastafiore · 02/08/2022 09:35

We covered DS inn8 hour cream every night before bed for a couple of weeks. Got rid of them and his eczema. Wasn't cheap but did the job.

We used Thuja from Holland and Barrett. Tiny homeopathic tablets that cleared them up in a couple of weeks... also used them for a verucca too.

Your sugar pills did nothing to the molloscum, or a verruca.

Gotobloodysleep · 02/08/2022 09:39

Another vote for tea tree oil. On a cotton bud, once or twice a day. We found that they spread when my son picked the centre out of them. He liked to do this at school when he was bored so I would put plasters on the ones that he could see. Some of the ones that he picked have scarred

BritInAus · 02/08/2022 09:48

My DD had them for about 3 years! Mainly on one buttock. Agree with many PP that you need to attack one and then the immune system will deal with others. I used standard wart treatment (like for warts on hands) on one and covered in a plaster. They soon left.

TheProf · 02/08/2022 09:56

superpets - nothing else shifted them for about 3 years... doctors, tea tree, silver stuff. Loads of infections where she scratched in her sleep. Maybe it was coincidence... or maybe it worked.

What worked? Did you miss a bit out in your post?

It didn't work. The only way it could possibly have worked is if you also changed the known laws of physics.

Did you change the known laws of physics?

** sorry, just saw you used Thuja!

Homeopathic thuja, meaning there is no actual thuja involved.

superpets The OP asked what worked. It seemed to work for us.

You're coming across as a bit agressive.

OP asked what worked. You said something worked that didn't, which was not helpful to OP so I corrected it.

If you see any aggresion it's in your own head.

DeePlume · 02/08/2022 10:11

when my kids had them we found pricking them with a pin made them go away. the smothering them in sudocrem.

apparently the body isn't aware they are there so if you irritate them it starts fighting them.

Asparagusluvva · 02/08/2022 10:23

You could try Olive Leaf Extract - I gave it to my DD. It’s an anti viral. Before this we had tried squeezing, which can help BUT I’d say be very careful they don’t get infected . Who knows if it was coincidence but after taking the Olive Leaf , the motherspot started to ooze, (without being squeezed) then heal. And the others followed, without oozing! Olive Leaf extract is very bitter so would recommend mixing with a little fruit juice to make it more palatable for a child.
