Called back to consultant after DS brain MRI

hello, my DS aged 7 has been having nausea, sickness and headaches since November and through lots of pushing managed to get an MRI which was on Monday eve - we were told to expect results in 2 weeks. Today I received a phone call from the paediatric consultants secretary asking myself and hubby to go in tomorrow at noon. I’m terrified. Has anyone else got experience of this? What’s scared me most is that they have asked me to bring hubby. They have requested that we don’t bring DS. I don’t even know what I’m asking for on this thread, maybe someone that has been in a similar situation? Thanks x

Please do record the appointment if it helps you. Can’t think of any good reason why a doctor would object to this.

Sending you the biggest hug and handhold x

If during the meeting you want them to stop and pause for a bit, ask them. Ask lots of questions no matter how obvious it seems.

Hi OP, so sorry you are going through this.

I echo another poster who said paediatric neurology/neurosurgery is amazing.

It sounds as though they have found something on the scan that they want to discuss with you. As someone else said, we always think it will be the worse case scenario when, actually, there are so many health conditions / issues that are not necessarily sinister.

My little girl suffered a significant bleed on her brain 7 years ago - she was scanned at the hospital and given emergency surgery. Similar to another poster, she had gone to the hospital seriously unwell, but I do think that anything life threatening would have been discussed with on the same day of the scan.

I have been in your position and the wait for the results is absolute torture. Sending you love ❤️

Wish you all the best OP xxxx

Fingers crossed for tomorrow… Just letting you know that sometimes results come through early. Especially for kids. Consultants don’t just sit on results (especially brain scans, etc..) and wait weeks to share the news with parents - even if the news is good. Familiar with the fear… much empathy.

As said above, do record the meeting. Consultants are very used to this and will want you to be fully informed. Just ask first.

Secondly, you want to come out of there with a plan so focus on that. If an issue has been identified what happens next? Likewise, if they're unclear what the problem is, what happens next?

You've done brilliantly pushing for your DS this far. Good luck.

Wishing you all the best OP, and for your darling boy. I’ve been thinking of you all night. The hospital always say results in 2 weeks to give them time to report back etc. I really hope it’s nothing major. My friend at work went through the exact same thing (we spoke about this a few weeks ago) and the called her in and said her husband should go with her and DD to stay away. I’m so sorry but I can’t remember the outcome but it was all fine in the end thankfully and praying same will be for you also.

well done for pushing the scan; sometimes us mums have to scream from the rooftops to be heard, don’t we?

really hoping for the best for you xx

MissMarpleRocks · 23/06/2022 06:14

Wishing you all the best. From recent experience with a friend, her dc was admitted immediately following the MRI- as another pp said they weren’t allowed to leave the hospital. Will be thinking of you today. 💐

When my DH recently received his diagnosis it was weirdly a relief as it meant there was a plan / solution to his symptoms- appreciate though a DC is different
Fingers crossed for you and Good Luck

Thinking of you today. Big hugs to you and the family.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 23/06/2022 08:49

Thinking of you today - I can't even imagine how scared you must be feeling this morning. Maybe try (I know, easier said than done) to repackage the fear as relief and positivity that you have advocated for your child, and put him in the best possible position to receive any treatment he needs, and that you are no longer watching and waiting, but proactive action has and will now be taken.

The worst is often the conclusion we jump to when it is someone so close to you, but there is a myriad of things that it could be, across a scale of severity.

Daisy38 · 23/06/2022 08:53

Thinking of you all today 💐
