DD is having a high fever since Saturday. There was no other symptoms on Saturday, just 40C and a bit upset. Vomited once on Sunday, about 10 times on Monday. We saw an emergency gp on Sunday and went to a&e on Monday. They had her urine and blood sugar tested. No obvious reason, and the vomit kind of stopped. Her temputure is kepted at 38 after carpol. They presumed it was viruses infection. So we were sent home.

The thing is, she refuses to eat or drink anything. All she dose since Sunday night is sleeping. I literally have to force her to drink. Managed to get about 400ml juice and water in. Vomited once. She had been awake for less than 1 hour today. Nothing could draw her attention. No crying, just sleep.

Should I take her back to hospital, or let her rest at home? She is not getting worse, only very difficult to wake. She used to be so energetic even when she was very ill and with a fever. I'm really worried now.

What did the doctor say? Did they say she'd be like this for so many days or did they say if no improvement in a day go back, for instance?

Partyfops · 17/07/2018 19:22

Call 111

Pinkgeorge · 17/07/2018 19:22

I’d take her back to the seriously. If she’s lethargic she needs to be seen tonight

Aaarrrggghh · 17/07/2018 19:22

If you're worried, I would take her now. You know her best and you're her advocate.

Quartz2208 · 17/07/2018 19:25

She seems to have worsened so I would definitely take her back to be checked

amy1008 · 17/07/2018 19:26

Thanks for the replies. Dr told us to take her back if it gets worse. We told them she kept sleeping. They saw her vomit and very dark wee, but seemed not concerned. I suggested IV in case of dehydration. They said it was not necessary.

Do not rely on waiting for advice here. I advise A&E assessment for an overly sleepy child. At the very least 111. Yes, I’m a medical professional

Foodylicious · 17/07/2018 19:27

Call 111 at least or just go to A&E.
Don't wait, do it now.

amy1008 · 17/07/2018 19:29

Thank you. I'm calling 111

If she is difficult to arouse then you need advice. How much did she vomit and is she weeing?

bobstersmum · 17/07/2018 19:34

Hope she's OK op! Mine have been very ill like this and they always pick up as quickly as it first started. I always take them to be seen if I'm unsure, you can't be too careful.

greathat · 17/07/2018 19:36

Hope she's ok. 111 will prob send you in anyway

ineedwine99 · 17/07/2018 19:40

Hope she’s ok. I’d be getting her back to hospital asap

rogueone · 17/07/2018 19:43

The last thing you want to give to a child with a high temperature and vomiting is juice. Alternate calpol and brufen and let her sleep. Plain water only and when she is ready to try food , plain old boiled rice. I would be anxious too if I was now on day 4 with no or little change (my partner is a Dr too and I am a nurse!) and would also be calling 111.

larrygrylls · 17/07/2018 19:47

A&E.

Do not mess with 111. Not normal to sleep one hour a day and urine colour means v dehydrated.

It is your daughter! Don’t be fobbed off.

amy1008 · 17/07/2018 20:10

111 is useless. After asking me a ridiculously long list of questions, told me to call gp tomorrow morning. I'M going to a&e.
buggedby: She weed once or twice today, only tiny bit. The vomit is not much either. There is nothing in her tummy.

Go to A&E now, OP. I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

SequinsOnEverything · 17/07/2018 20:31

I would definitely be taking her back if I were you. Better safe than sorry.

I hope she is ok op.

Tabathatwitchett · 17/07/2018 20:35

I agree with PPs. A and E now

Bin85 · 17/07/2018 20:37

Just go to A and E and make a fuss
Sounds like she needs admitting
Best of luck , please update

MumMuuumMummy · 17/07/2018 21:04

I hope she's ok OP

Definitely worth a trip to a&e just to make sure it's nothing too serious Thanks

SubtitlesOn · 17/07/2018 21:04

Crumbs poor little one, glad you are going to A&E

Hope they help her quickly

badgeronabicycle · 17/07/2018 21:06

GP here. I'd send her to A&E if you brought her to see me. You made the right call OP. Always trust your instincts. Hope she's ok. Xx

Rozzzzzalmost35 · 17/07/2018 21:28
