DD is having a high fever since Saturday. There was no other symptoms on Saturday, just 40C and a bit upset. Vomited once on Sunday, about 10 times on Monday. We saw an emergency gp on Sunday and went to a&e on Monday. They had her urine and blood sugar tested. No obvious reason, and the vomit kind of stopped. Her temputure is kepted at 38 after carpol. They presumed it was viruses infection. So we were sent home.

The thing is, she refuses to eat or drink anything. All she dose since Sunday night is sleeping. I literally have to force her to drink. Managed to get about 400ml juice and water in. Vomited once. She had been awake for less than 1 hour today. Nothing could draw her attention. No crying, just sleep.

Should I take her back to hospital, or let her rest at home? She is not getting worse, only very difficult to wake. She used to be so energetic even when she was very ill and with a fever. I'm really worried now.

Hope your daughter recovers soon and well done for fighting the system and getting them to take you seriously ThanksThanks

Redteapot67 · 18/07/2018 23:13

Thinking of you and your little girl op. Please let us know when she’s better.
Push push push for answers.
And take care of yourself. There’s nothing more stressful than a child in hospital sick. Make sure you sleep and eat.

timeisnotaline · 19/07/2018 00:58

Well done for standing up for your daughter op, scary how necessary it was. I hope she is better soon and they work out why. I think I agree with speaking to pals, not so much to complain but to look at how they can do better. 3yo are so small, I have one. hugs.

ParisNext · 19/07/2018 06:16

Thought of you most of the night OP when I was up and down with my own dc. So glad you kelt pushing it. Keep us posted. Sending heartfelt wishes.

INeedNewShoes · 19/07/2018 06:23

What a lesson for us all! I can't believe how persistent you have had to be to be taken seriously. I'm so sorry you're going through this and I wish your DD a speedy recovery. I'm sure now that the hospital is on the case that she'll be very well looked after.

Roystonv · 19/07/2018 06:33

Just do not understand how this sort of mistake can be made, so sad and frustrating for you. When you have the energy do make a formal complaint, it just might make a difference to someone else down the line. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your little one.

TaggieRR · 19/07/2018 06:37

Well done OP for standing up to GP/A&E. Hope your dd is on the mend soon.

Redteapot67 · 19/07/2018 06:43

This type of thing happens all the time very sadly. The nhs is just too overstretched and they have so much pressure on them to send children especially away and say ‘it’s a virus’. (Personally I don’t understand why they don’t do the cheap snot tests other countries do which can show which virus/bacteria it is so they can be sure).

As a parent you must always listen to your instinct even if 20 drs are telling you otherwise.

The drs should also be giving out safeguarding advice so the op and others knew when to take her back - not just say it’s a virus and go home

Op you did all the right things - you couldn’t have done anymore. Also Illnesses can progress fast in children.

I hope she’s improving this morning.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 19/07/2018 06:45

How bloody frightening for you Op. Thank goodness you persevered.

Comments like w1ne's frustrate the hell out of me. When you are giving advice on a potentially life or death situation, you run the risk of getting it totally wrong. If GPs on here are advising a&e you must be very sure of yourself to advocate doing nothing. Please rethink before posting potentially harmful 'advice' again.

Op, sending positive vibes to you and your little DD. Children can deteriorate but also recover quickly too. Hope all goes well with her recovery and that you take the time to rest a little if you can (I know firsthand that that's not always easy)

TheGoldenWolfFleece · 19/07/2018 06:45

Bloody well done for pushing to get her seen op. You know your child better than anyone. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery Flowers

Fevs · 19/07/2018 06:52

Wow valuable lesson to us all!! Persistence is absolutely key.
Well done on being persistent and taking her back. I really wish her a speedy recovery and hope you manage to get some rest too. Flowers

bumblingbovine49 · 19/07/2018 06:56

Well done Op. I am not sure I would have persisted and goodness know what would have happened. I am glad MN posters gave you the confidence to go with your instincts

hairymoragthebampot · 19/07/2018 07:01

How terrifying OP. Hope she has had a good night and you get some answers today.

MamaBearThius · 19/07/2018 07:08

How lucky your little girl is, to have such a wonderful Mum on her side! Well done you! Sounds like such a scary time for you both, sending positive vibes your way and hope she is better soon Flowers

rainbowruthie · 19/07/2018 07:18

Sending kind thoughts Flowers

ineedwine99 · 19/07/2018 07:19

Huge hugs OP, best wishes to you and your daughter. Hope she’s better very soon Flowers

Sirzy · 19/07/2018 07:20

Hope she starts improving soon.

To be fair to the earlier professionals though they did do tests and went off what was presenting at that point. Secondary infections can and do develop which is why it is so important to go back in things deteriorate.

Bin85 · 19/07/2018 07:24

I hope she starts improving and the cause is found
Be there for doctor's rounds
Get a notebook
Diarise everything
Thinking of you
Best of luck

Notabee · 19/07/2018 07:29

Oh my goodness, I really hope she's ok and I'm glad you took her back to a&e.

alwayspain · 19/07/2018 07:44

@W1neNot aren't you glad she persisted now?

She's in the right place, hoping for a speedy recovery x

nearlyfiftyjeez · 19/07/2018 07:49

How is she this morning?

Ticcinalong · 19/07/2018 08:21

Gosh OP just seen this thread and hoping for a quick recovery for your little one.
Definitely a lesson for us all in advocating and persisting when we feel something is not right. Well done to you, I am so glad she is getting the treatment she needs now and you didn’t listen to the 1 or 2 posters who advised sitting and waiting Flowers

RosemaryLemonxx · 19/07/2018 08:23

@W1neNot
This response annoyed me a little bit. She clearly knew something was wrong

Hope everything is on the mend!!

amy1008 · 19/07/2018 08:26

Thanks so much for the support and kind words.
She is doing well with the help of the medicines. We haven't meet the drs this morning but I think their plan is to take her off ventilator and to reduce the amount of the drugs. I hope they can find the cause when testing results come back.

I'll talk to the hospital after she gets better. To be fair, the symptoms that finally triggered their alarm (red tongue and low blood pressure) only developed during the last day. But I pointed out the sleepiness and dehydration so many times. She was so dehydrated that they had to put a line in her thigh to give her drug (the reason she was intubated). However the last a&e doctor reassured us she was not dehydrated less than 24 hours ago. I didn't push for a blood test then. It could have been spotted earlier.
