DD is having a high fever since Saturday. There was no other symptoms on Saturday, just 40C and a bit upset. Vomited once on Sunday, about 10 times on Monday. We saw an emergency gp on Sunday and went to a&e on Monday. They had her urine and blood sugar tested. No obvious reason, and the vomit kind of stopped. Her temputure is kepted at 38 after carpol. They presumed it was viruses infection. So we were sent home.

The thing is, she refuses to eat or drink anything. All she dose since Sunday night is sleeping. I literally have to force her to drink. Managed to get about 400ml juice and water in. Vomited once. She had been awake for less than 1 hour today. Nothing could draw her attention. No crying, just sleep.

Should I take her back to hospital, or let her rest at home? She is not getting worse, only very difficult to wake. She used to be so energetic even when she was very ill and with a fever. I'm really worried now.

Toddlers shouldn’t be that lethargic. I’m glad she’s being seen and hope she gets better soon.

Redteapot67 · 17/07/2018 21:52

Def a and e

Hope she’s ok

TOWIEismyguiltysecret · 17/07/2018 22:24

My 4 yr old had something similar earlier this year. He is normally THE most energetic child but just wanted to sleep. Could hardly get him to drink and what he did, he vomited up. Lost loads of weight (not much to lose).

Took about 5 days to get over it and then pretty much back to normal. I didn't bother with the GP/ 111/ A&E as knew a nasty virus was going around but if you are concerned take him in.

Ice lollies were recommended to me.

TOWIEismyguiltysecret · 17/07/2018 22:26

Sorry, she and her

shewolfmum · 17/07/2018 22:57

Poor poppet. Dark wee and lethargy are definatr warning signs can't believe they suggested waiting till morning. Poor you. Hope all ok.

amy1008 · 18/07/2018 06:52

So, we went to a&e last night. Dorctor still thought it was sort of virus infection. She wasn't really dehydrated although her wee was very dark. No more vomiting. They ruled out all the serious problems. We were sent home again without any treatment or medicine.

But her temputure jumped back to 39.7 this morning. It was about 38C 12 hours after taking calpol yesterday. Guess I need to ring gp again.

And thanks for all your lovely messages

Is she any more energy this morning or still sleeping? I would ring gp this morning and keep trying to force water on her, every a teaspoon full every few minutes.

amy1008 · 18/07/2018 07:46

She is still sleeping, very annoyed when I'm trying to make her drink. And falls back to sleep within a minute.

Would you try her with dioralyte op? Does she perk up when her temperature comes down?

amy1008 · 18/07/2018 08:35

No, she just keeps sleeping whatever the temperature is. I'll get some dioralyte later.

But just now, I was having a cracker next to her. She woke up, took the cracker from me and ate it. She is clearly hungry. Hopefully it's a good sign.

I’d take her back and ask for a blood test.
Trust your instinct and keep going back to a and e if you are worried and you think she’s getting worse

amy1008 · 18/07/2018 12:15

I'm getting angry with a&e now. They lost her urine sample on Monday. Did a test on Tuesday, said it was basically normal but would need further test to be sure. So I need to send another sample to my gp today. They promised to write to the surgery. I went to the gp, reception was confused, as they send all the samples to the lab in the hospital to test. A&e should send it directly. And they didn't receive any letter about this.

The kind reception lady booked us another appointment this afternoon because she thought DD is too poorly. DD slept through the whole thing.

Debydration will make her sleep a lot. You need to get dioralyte into her in any which way you can. Syringe it if you need to. Being like thos since the weekend is an awfully long time without eating or drinking.

moreismore · 18/07/2018 13:01

Will she take fluids from a Calpol syringe? The novelty sometimes works with my DS when he’s poorly... hopefully the appetite is a good sign and the GP is more helpful than A&E!

ParisNext · 18/07/2018 13:11

I logged on just to look at your post as I read it last night and felt worried for you. It is situations like this with cracks to fall through that can go very wrong. My daughter had to have a drip at A and E when she ended up like this and I had to practically get on my hands and knees to get a blood test. I hope you get to have a full blood test, please do put pressure on and think nothing of going back yet again to A and E, as you really need to rule out a whole range of things. Certainly this situation is beyond the norm. Best of luck this afternoon.

ineedwine99 · 18/07/2018 13:20

Hoping everything is ok OP Flowers

Redteapot67 · 18/07/2018 13:39

Op just go straight back to a and e now

W1neNot · 18/07/2018 13:42

Is there a reason why you don't want to accept what your GP, A & E staff and 111 HCP are telling you? You've been told what's wrong with her so unless you've reason not to trust them, I'd suggest you do. Don't keep tipping up at A & E - trust your doctors

timeisnotaline · 18/07/2018 13:45

Very stressful op, I have a 3yo and the sleepiness would have me panicking. The food is a good sign , unless she is picking up though you need to keep chasing I think.

Redteapot67 · 18/07/2018 13:49

Wine because drs can and do get it wrong.

Mums instinct triumphs any medical intervention every time

Outnumbered1225 · 18/07/2018 13:55

W1neNot I had a very similar situation with my DD (2) last year. Repeatedly told it was fine/just viral. In the end I took her to A&E and insisted on some tests. I'm a health care professional so it helps I knew what to say/ask for. It turned out my DD had a raging chest infection and needed IV antibiotics.
The doctors do not always get it right.

Quartz2208 · 18/07/2018 14:09

Actually OP hasnt been told - putting it down to a viral infection means they dont know what it is - they know what it isnt but not what it is

Sleeping all the time and not getting better is not normal. I had it once over two weeks getting worse and by the end sleeping most of the day. Dragged myself to A&E (having seen doctors 3 times) they begrudignly gave me pencillin - the difference within 24 was immediate

PeachyKeenJellymonster · 18/07/2018 15:52

Hope you little one picks up

Witchend · 18/07/2018 15:53

Ds does this every time with viral tonsillitis. He first had it at about 3yo, and is now 11yo and still does exactly the same.
He'll sleep for as long as needed with scarcely a movement if he needs the toilet or anything he'll crawl or need carrying.

The only time I went to A&E (sent by the GP) all they did was give me a beaker of dioralyte and tell me to syringe 5ml n every 5-10 minutes. He's more comfortable lying on his bed at home and me doing that. He'll drink that amount even when asleep.

But if your ds hasn't done it before then do get him checked out. I know I don't need to worry with ds because he's done it so often.
