I have an appointment for the GP on Friday but I'm just beginning to feel more worried. Should I wait until Friday or go to A&E?

I hope you have stopped fannying about on a forum and taken your dd to be seen by somebody

The last time I saw a child with an eye that looked like that, they had a tumour behind it

ineedwine99 · 11/09/2017 19:17

Hope she's ok OP

ozymandiusking · 11/09/2017 19:18

Do Not wait until Friday to see your G.P.
Go to A+E now.
You cannot afford to waste time.

piebald · 11/09/2017 19:20

i can see it, the left eye is really dark, has it always been like that or become so recently. i definately would take her to be seen asap

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoor · 11/09/2017 19:20

Hope you're doing ok OP.

Nobody will begrudge seeing your dd, and I think you should travel to your nearest eye a&e. Flowers

Peakyblinders · 11/09/2017 19:20

That's what I thought AF. We've seen all sorts at work but staff would never ever hesitate to investigate eyes.
I hope you've gone x

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 11/09/2017 19:21

Ah, sorry, thought you were London.

A&E then

DarthMaiden · 11/09/2017 19:22

The thing with A&E is that like a GP they are not necessarily going to have the specific equipment to look at your daughters eye properly.

You could go see an optician tomorrow and if urgent they would refer you directly to the hospital eye clinic.

I would absolutely get this check out asap but I'm not convinced A&E is the best route tbh.

stillvicarinatutu · 11/09/2017 19:25

no. A&E tonight is my advice and i used to be a dispensing optician in a former life. its definitely A&E justified .
A&E will refer to another hospital if needed but they do have equipment and can dilate pupil to get a good look - and my advice is not to delay but to go today to A&E - that would be my professional advice from when i worked in this field.

Skittlesss · 11/09/2017 19:26

Hope she's ok. Please seek medical advice today.

Fairybella · 11/09/2017 19:28

Hope you got to a and e and got seen

WunWun · 11/09/2017 19:28

I'd take her somewhere straight away if that's changed like that suddenly. A walk in centre or A&E if not.

Hope she's okay x

mineofuselessinformation · 11/09/2017 19:29

Will people stop saying this isn't a job for A&E? They can refer to an emergency eye clinic, many of which stay open until much later than normal clinics, specifically because they are dealing with urgent cases.
Dc1 was once seen at 8.30 PM with something urgent.
It's up to you OP, but in your shoes I'd take her - even if you get told to come back on the morning, the hospital has a heads-up and you have a foot in the door already.

Cantchooseaname · 11/09/2017 19:29

I don't think a and e are ever very cross to see such a small child with a genuine concern. We have out of hours gp at a and e that you can have appointments at, then be triaged through if necessary. 111 book it for you.
Really hope they just reassure you and send you home.

CPtart · 11/09/2017 19:29

Nurse here saying A&E. You don't mess about with eyes. Without scaring you another one thinking tumour (brain/eye). Please get her checked tonight, better you waste your time than leave it to worsen.
Let us know she gets on and hope it's nothing serious.

OpalIridescence · 11/09/2017 19:30

My daughters eye started to swell exactly like this and it continued to swell.

It was peri orbital cellulitis. This is an infection that can be treated but can become really bad news. My daughter was treated in hospital with IV antibiotics same as a PP.

Good luck

notfunnyhaha85 · 11/09/2017 19:33

A&E all the way, I hope she gets seen quickly! Also apart from her eye does she seem unwell at all?

OpalIridescence · 11/09/2017 19:38

I am frustrated by people saying not a&e worthy.
I took my daughter to two GPs and held up pictures from the internet of peri orbital cellulitis, they both told me I was wrong.
I walked in to a &e with her and they diagnosed, admitted and treated her as an emergency.
The potential outcomes if not treated were sepsis and meningitis and she had to have scans to check it had not spread to brain.
A&e was the absolute best place and my instinct was spot on.
Obviously this was my situation and ops daughter could have something totally different or nothing at all, but A&E is the place to determine that.

user1496587010 · 11/09/2017 19:42

Another vote for A&E. It's so easy to second guess yourself in these situations. Don't feel bad about being unsure. You'll just worry all night if you don't go & in these circs it's better to have an unnecessary visit than miss a necessary one iyswim.

Luckymummy22 · 11/09/2017 20:40

I think my son has been treated for Periorbital cellulitis (although not convinced it was actually that - they never said and apart from a swollen eyelid he had no other symptoms)
He didn't get admitted to hospital though (GP did phone eye hospital) but got prescribed strong antibiotics and had to go to see eye Dr next day. In or case eyelid was greatly improved the next day with the ab's although we did have a 4 week open discharge from eye department. Basically we got told if it started to swell again we went straight to eye dept of hospital. If that was shut don't bother with local A&E but go to the nearest hospital with 24 hr eye department.
He was fine but it can be serious so I wouldn't mess about if you think it could be that.
He's had he beginnings of it again so really not sure it was that at all in our case

Graceflorrick · 11/09/2017 20:45

Ring 111 OP.

FinallyDecidedOnUserName · 11/09/2017 20:49

Go to A&E - I could see the difference immediately from the first photo. No one will think it's unreasonable as she's so little and eyes so delicate.

Peakyblinders · 11/09/2017 21:14

Hope you'll update us when you can OP? Am genuinely sat here wondering about your little dd Sad

Whensmokeysings · 11/09/2017 21:23

Hope all is well Op Flowers

IwillrunIwillfly · 11/09/2017 22:05

I'd support those saying to get her checked asap by a paediatrician so most likely that would be a and e. It does look like there could be swelling behind the eye causing it to bulge. A dr will be able to look at the back of the eye for swelling and refer for more tests if necessary. If everythings fine you can still go to the optitian. But def get her checked if no tonight then tomorrow morning.
