I have an appointment for the GP on Friday but I'm just beginning to feel more worried. Should I wait until Friday or go to A&E?

If this is a sudden change (and yes I agree it looks odd) then you could ring 111 for advice.

goodeggsarehardtocatch · 11/09/2017 18:09

Demented because they have dr's qualified in paediatrics and eyes !

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 11/09/2017 18:09

Has it always been like that? If it's a recent change I'd see whether your local hospital has a walk in eye clinic - ours has one every morning - and would take her there asap. If it's always been like that, I would assume that it's been noticed at baby check ups, clinic etc and that nobody has been overly concerned, in which case I'd wait until the appointment ( though I'm surprised it's so long to wait, even our minimum-3-week-wait for a regular appointment gp sees children and babies either same day or the next). But, if you are worried about it , take her to gp and wait to be seen.

Some areas have GP Hubs open 8-8.
Call 111 to access.

GlitterGlue · 11/09/2017 18:10

Optician in the first instance. They'll have the right equipment and a gp won't. They'll be able to refer to the eye clinic if necessary.

sparksamanda · 11/09/2017 18:14

Just taken this her eye is a completely different shape. I am feeling so worried but now I just feel stupid because clearly I'm worrying over nothing

it is quite recent for sure

Some people are born with different coloured irises - called heterochromia iridis - and it is nothing to worry about.
However, any change in iris colour should definitely be investigated and I would recommend an optician or gp asap. In our area either can then refer onto an eye casualty clinic at the hospital for a specialist to take a look.
It is most likely to be fine but needs to be looked at.

gamerchick · 11/09/2017 18:16

This isn't a&e gumbo. An optician has all the kit on sight to do an in depth checkup of all the eye area and will refer if needed. Probably not take as long as siting in a&e will.

Unless she's in agonising pain that is.

midnightflowers · 11/09/2017 18:17

Is her eye swollen underneath?
(Right eye in photo)
Her eyes look completely different to me.
If it's not usually like that I'd call 111 and get advice on what to do.
Is it bothering her?

sanasa · 11/09/2017 18:17

Eyes can be associated with head injuries - so I'd play it safe and go to a&e.
Rather feel reassured than to worry.
Hope she's ok

Avebury · 11/09/2017 18:18

There is an eye a and e at Kingston hospital I think if you are anywhere near there

ShuttyTown · 11/09/2017 18:18

I see what you mean OP from both photos, the left eye does look very different. I'd take her straight to the opticians tomorrow

gamerchick · 11/09/2017 18:18

It doesn't look like the eyeball in that pic. Her lid and surrounding area looks swollen. Has she banged it!

booellesmum · 11/09/2017 18:18

Just looked at latest photo and iris looks same colour on that photo but left eye wider.
Does that eye move to the left fully?
Same advice applies though - any concern optician or gp (whoever will see you soonest).

Coconutspongexo · 11/09/2017 18:19

Okay the pupil hasn't blown by the looks of it, it looks normal there but the actual iris appears to be 'bulging'.

I wouldn't wait until Friday but I don't think a&e is needed, is she able to see out of the eye do you know? Could you cover one eye and try and get her to follow your finger?

Coconutspongexo · 11/09/2017 18:20

It actually looks like she's had a reaction to something it looks quite swollen

gamerchick · 11/09/2017 18:20

Conjunctivitis? Her eyes are the same, just one looks different because the lid is a different shape to the other.

Thirtyrock39 · 11/09/2017 18:20

Eye casualty ? A and E were useless when DH had a detached retina - sent us away and said to go to eye casualty when it was next open

TyrionLannistersShadow · 11/09/2017 18:22

I agree her eyes look completely different and if she were mine I'd want to get it checked out too. I think an optician is probably your best bet and then they'll refer you to the gp if they deem it necessary. Good luck

Isadora2007 · 11/09/2017 18:23

I would be calling 111 as they can get you seen at the walk in centre who would refer you on to ophthalmology if necessary.

I would definitely not wait til Friday.

LesPins · 11/09/2017 18:23

Go to an eye clinic /eye A&E. An optician is unlikely to be able to help. They may be able to do a check up of the eye area but if there is anything serious they will send you to the eye clinic.
You will save yourself a trip going straight there if there is cause for concern.

lavenderbees · 11/09/2017 18:23

Can you call out of hours Gp? If you call 111 they will advise you.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 11/09/2017 18:26

Did she give her head a bang at all? Is she in pain? You must be up the walls, hope you find out what's causing it asap Flowers

wheretoyougonow · 11/09/2017 18:27

I would call 111 and get some advice.

However, trust your own instincts. If you aren't happy then request an out of hours appointment or go to a and e. No one is going to be upset with a mum who is genuinely concerned.
Hope she is ok Flowers
