ElaineFromLondon · 28/10/2014 17:17

I have three boys

A 12 yr old who is 4ft11 and 154lbs
A 9 yr old who is 4ft3 and 79lb
And a 3yr old who is 34 inches tall and 55lbs*

I'm looking for some perspective on their heights/weights so I know how they compare with other kids.

*I am aware that this is unusually heavy.

Sirzy · 28/10/2014 18:49

DS (5 in 2 weeks) is 3ft 7 tall and weighs 35lb

Waggamamma · 28/10/2014 21:06

DS 1 has just turned 4. 44inches (110cm) 45lbs (20.4kg).

Ds2 is 6 weeks and 12lb 4oz. massive!

Artandco · 28/10/2014 21:11

Ds1 4 - 39lbs
Ds2 3 - 37lbs

Basically the same

bealos · 28/10/2014 21:12

Why not google weight charts / Nhs?

soaccidentprone · 28/10/2014 21:21

12 5 foot 1 89 pounds (he is very slender, but appears to be 'average' amongst the other boys in his year)

Wincher · 28/10/2014 21:33

I have no idea in imperial. DS is 4, he's 104cm and 16.9kg.

tobysmum77 · 29/10/2014 07:14

the 12 year old is also unusually heavy surely? 154lb is 11 stone which at 4ft 11 would be very overweight for an adult?

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 08:40

tobysmum77- He is, but very overweight 12 year old's are more common than very overweight 3 year olds.

Elaine - really? Sorry but any age overweight isn't good. Have you looked at the reasons for this? Or ways to resolve?

Sorry but I just looked and 34 inches is 86cm. That's a fairly small height for the very high weight of 55lbs!
Here ds who is also 3 is 108cm tall and 37lbs (17kgs). So over 20cm taller but almost 20lbs lighter.

Is your 3 year old very active? Here ds hasn't used a pram for over a year, so walks/ scoots or cycles everywhere. We live in London so no car and usually racks up a good few miles min every day

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 09:26

Artandco- He has stopped using his puschair recently because he is too big for it. One of the reasons for his weight is that he broke his leg just after his 1st birthday, this delayed his walking which caused him to be very inactive.

The doctors said to try and get him walking as soon as his leg would allow him to, but he's been very reluctant and the leg was quite badly broken so took a while to fix

Elaine that can't possibly be right. You must have mixed your numbers up.
DS 2.10 is 89cm (35 inches) and 12kg, 26lb. A child is height and thirty pounds heavier would be so grossly overweight that social services and medical services would be intimately involved, surely?

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 09:36

I've just measured his height and it's actually 37 inches now, the 34 inches was measured a while ago. Doctors are involved a lot and he is taken to the doctors weekly.

10yo is around 4'10 (not measured this week and he's growing like a weed) and 76lb - weight below hight in terms of centiles, and sometimes visibly skinny, but he has eating issues and is a natural born fidget.
8yo around 4'4 and 60lb.

This doesn't tell you much, though. As others have said, it's better to use official charts or the NHS BMI calculator for children, which tells you what centile your child's BMI is.

ouryve · 29/10/2014 09:45

And rather than looking at your 3yo in isolation, I think you need to look at the diet and exercise habits of all your children. My 8yo is straight up the middle of the centile charts and slim with chubby thighs. Your 9yo is an inch shorter and almost 20lb heavier.

And your 12 yo didn't become so heavy overnight, just by being 12. I'm 5" taller and 7lb lighter and still verging on overweight.

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 09:47

Ive just used the NHS BMI calculator:

12 year old : 99th Centile

9 year old : 95th Centile

3 year old : 100th Centile

My 8.5 year old DSD is 4'6" and just under 8 stone
We are aware she's far too big and when she's with us we all eat very healthily. Unfortunately, she's not always with us...

ClaimedByMe · 29/10/2014 09:58

My 11 year old dd is 5ft3 and 7st (98lb)

My nine year old ds is 4ft5 and weighs about 5st (70lb)

fuctifino · 29/10/2014 10:01

I know it doesn't always follow but Elaine, are you and the boys df overweight?

My friend's dd has always been overweight but she is the spit of her dad build wise. She obviously follows his line of struggling with weight, rather than her mum who is very slim.

Bunbaker · 29/10/2014 10:02

DD is 5'5" and weighs about 46 kilos.

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 10:03

fuctfino- Both me and my Husband are a healthy weight
