What is the height & weight of your DS('s)

ElaineFromLondon · 28/10/2014 17:17

I have three boys

A 12 yr old who is 4ft11 and 154lbs
A 9 yr old who is 4ft3 and 79lb
And a 3yr old who is 34 inches tall and 55lbs*

I'm looking for some perspective on their heights/weights so I know how they compare with other kids.

*I am aware that this is unusually heavy.

DS (9yrs old)

Height 148cm (about 4ft 101/2 inch) He is tall

Weight 35kg (about 75lbs )

NHS BMI calc for him says he is around 40 percentile

Hi mother now and his dad are much higher than that on BMI ! Blush

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 10:20

bumblingbovine49- 4ft 10 seems very tall for a nine year old !

Ds is 8, is 5ft and a bit and is just over 5 stone.

kally195 · 29/10/2014 10:35

Elaine - I can't give you child comparisons as DD is only 5 months, but without wanting to sound rude, surely you can see wirhout asking for comparisons that your sons are larger than their peers?

You've said that your youngest is being seen by doctors - is your oldest as well? To put it bluntly, the weight and height you have given for him means he is obese - I'm not sure how comparisons with other children will give you any greater perspective on his weight than that.

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 11:06

My oldest isn't currently being seen by doctors, but perhaps he should be

I would maybe take them all to be seen by a doctor tbh who can guide you from there.

They all seem to be much heavier yet much shorter in comparison to all on here.

A break in leg what 2 years ago shouldn't be hindering child much now. I know you said a bad break, but the younger the child the quicker they heal.

Can you try and make all of them more fitter in general? Always walk/ cycle to and from school, hour min play outside every day after school ( more at weekends). Can you keep a diary of their food for a week and really look at where you could change?

HowlCapone · 29/10/2014 11:47

I think sounds like you are making excuses.

DS1 is 16, 6 ft tall and weighs less than your 12 yr old.

Notbythehaironmychinnychinchin · 29/10/2014 11:49

Don't know DS2 but he is bony.

DS1 10yo, 5ft 2 and 101lb. Not sure he's the best comparison as his weight has fluctuated enormously birth ways this year due to illness/medication although he seems to be about normal now.

ds is 10 4"9 and 75lbs I wouldn't want him any heavier

IneedAwittierNickname · 29/10/2014 12:10

I have no idea how tall or heavy either of my ds' are Blush
ds1 is 10. Tall enough not to need a booster seat and solidly built.
Ds2 is 8. Slim, long legs. Weighed 22kg a year ago.

m0therofdragons · 29/10/2014 12:13

My 3yos are both 94cm tall and weigh just under 17kg ish.
My friends dd broke her leg at 2yos and now at 9 is over weight. I would talk to your gp to address it as soon as possible as it does make a difference - my friend's dd is one of twins so a clear comparison.

MirandaWest · 29/10/2014 12:18

DS is nearly 11. Weighs about 30kg and is about 145cm tall. Is quite thin IMO.

About 4 stone 10 and 4 foot 9 in imperial.

DS is 6, he is 122cm and about 42lbs in weight.

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 13:00

I think the main problem with my 3 year old is that he is fairly short and doesn't seem to be tall enough to carry all of his weight, meaning that his whole body (especially his tummy and thighs) is covered in fat. There often seems to be patches of red irritation where folds of fat rub together, particularly under his chin.

No, the main problem is that he is over weight!

Saying he is too short is like the old "I'm not over weight I'm under tall" joke.

Artandco · 29/10/2014 13:27

No, if he is shorter than average, he should weigh less than average

He would have to be very very tall for a 3 year old carry 55lbs nicely. That's 3.9 stone. Average for 8 year old

SolomanDaisy · 29/10/2014 13:41

Can I ask you why you're asking? I have a three year-old and he is chunky (and tall) - enough for his Dr to warn us to keep an eye on his eating and for him to be one of the biggest in his class. He is both considerably taller and considerably lighter than your three year-old. You know he's too heavy, so why are you checking this with us? Do you want to talk about how to tackle it?

ElaineFromLondon · 29/10/2014 13:42

I think I said that badly, what I meant was that the biggest problem his weight is causing him was the aforementioned issue.

OP posts:
SolomanDaisy · 29/10/2014 13:59

Do you mean because he is so heavy when he's so small he can't move around enough to lose weight?

DS will be 4 next month. He is 107cm tall and weighs 2st10lb (38lbs)

OldBeanbagz · 29/10/2014 14:26

DS (9yo) is 136cm high and weighs 24.5kg. I have just checked on the NHS BMI calculator and that puts him on the 0th centile. He's never been above the 9th since he was born so i'm not overly worried.

I guess you need to look at getting your 3yo on the move. Is he reluctant to walk on the leg that was broken? Maybe you could try swimming at first to get some strength back and get him exercising?

What's his diet like too? Does he try to eat to keep up with his brothers even though they're more active than him?
