Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Welcome back whenis I think you are definitely clutching at strawsSad, I hate the pox too.

I have a very grumpy DH because he wants to be at work and doesn't feel all that bad apart from being itchy but DS doesn't seem all that bad now. Although he has loads of spots on his face and there's no way he isn't going to have at least one scar Sad.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/07/2012 08:18

It's a shitter having to do it once and then do it all again before the first patient is still recovering!

I'm not usually this sweary! Blush we had a lovely day planned- catching up with fiends I haven't seen since before pox V1 and then more friends round for food and watching the Olympic opening ceremony. It was going to be great and now I have another day of staying home with a miserable dd (1yo) but this time ds (3yo) will want to be out and about playing. Hmm

mum2twoloudbabies · 27/07/2012 08:24

I feel your pain. My mantra has become 'it is now all done, never again will I be stuck in the house because of the pox'. I have so much to do outside of the house, I have a lot to do in the house too but I'm sick of the sight of it.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/07/2012 08:38

It bloody sucks! I reckon I'll have had a month of pox by the time dd is well. Which will leave me with about a week of summer holidays left to have fun with the dc before I go back to work. :(

Dd feels pretty warm, is looking tired, is off her food, is v cuddly and has the iffy looking spots.

Damn you chickenpox! Damn you to hell! Angry

tattyteddy · 27/07/2012 09:17

Day 5 of the dreaded pox, I'm really hoping we're over the worse!
Does anyone know if all the spots end up having blisters? Xx

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/07/2012 09:28

All 200+ of ds' blistered, crusted, fell off and left scabby bits. :(
The ones in his hair are huge!

tattyteddy · 27/07/2012 09:32

Oh know, I thought the really little red spots would be ok. Im a bit worried about scarring! I think I'll let her play out in the back garden today, might make her feel happier.

I hope all fellow poxers have a nice day today xx

tattyteddy · 27/07/2012 09:32

I meant oh no! Xx

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/07/2012 10:21

I think a bit of sun helped ds' to heal a bit but I was v worried about putting sun cream on already frazzled skin. Confused
I bought a tube of salon advanced heal (or something like that) for ds to put on the ones he keeps picking. It says it speeds healing and reduces scarring Hmm I'm a firm believer in trying anything! :)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/07/2012 11:14

Stupid question alert....

If chicken pix is spread through the air like cold/ flu should I be keeping dd indoors? Next door have a little baby who is regularly outside in the pram. Ds is desperate to be outside in the sunshine. Hmm

Think it was easier having a poorly big one as dd didn't mind of we didn't play out etc. Hmm

ValiumQueen · 27/07/2012 11:23

I think it depends if it is a communal garden and how near your child is likely to be to the baby. It is spread via droplets from before spots appear to about 5 days after they appear, but in the open air I would think the risk is minimal if in separate gardens. May be worth having a chat to your neighbour though so she can then choose if she puts her baby out.

tattyteddy · 27/07/2012 14:48

I asked my gp about going out, he said keep away from pregnant women, those with impaired immunities and babies. However that's really just in confined indoor places. I think he'll be ok outside, but perhaps check with neighbour is wants to take her baby indoors

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/07/2012 15:02

Thanks! I've kept dd inside for now but she did just nap for an hour so ds got to play out and get my full attention.
Next door are lovely and always say hello but they don't speak much english other than hello, how are you. I might try discussing it but it might be a bit tricky. Confused

ValiumQueen · 27/07/2012 15:13

Did your GP tell you how to know if people are pregnant or have compromised immunities? Babies are fairly easy to identify thankfully. Not being cheeky to you, just amazed at a GP saying that.

ValiumQueen · 27/07/2012 15:14

This thread keeps popping up in my list and I am Bored Beyond Belief, so sorry [ grin]

tattyteddy · 27/07/2012 15:32

No GP didn't tell us how to identify those with immunity problems. I have though just sat in my own back garden with DD. I think GP meant don't visit those sorts of people. We've visited no one so hopefully not passed on anything.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle · 27/07/2012 20:35

Hello again - I am back, two weeks to the day that DT2's spots appears and DT1 now is pox ridden. At least I know what to do this time.
Sleepytime I have been letting my 2 run wild in the garden but like you I just warned neighbours. Looks like we are in the same boat - fancy a Wine

OP posts:
Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/07/2012 22:31

Welcome back hands full!
No Wine here as I'm bracing myself. dd had 5ish this am but by bedtime had 50+ on her face, neck and ears alone! :( I think my dc are both going to have a full dose of pox. Hmm

mum2twoloudbabies · 27/07/2012 22:37

I think being in the garden is what has kept my 2 sane! Thank god for the good weather. Also, much kinder to my furniture when ds is nappy free! Welcom back handsfull.

whenisit that's exactly what I was thinking today, I'm waiting for the summer hols to start when we can get out and enjoy some time together.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 28/07/2012 06:40

OMG!!! Shock
Dd had spots mostly around her face, ears and neck last night. She is now covered all over her gorgeous face! :( there are way too many to count. As well as those she also has them all over her back and tummy. I can't believe how many there are- there's probably 200+ on her head alone!!! And this is only day 2!

I could have cried when I caught sigh of her in the bathroom mirror when I went to get Nurofen for her this morning. :(

Handsfullandrunningforgold · 28/07/2012 09:47

Oh no sleepytime thats a lot of spots - ours are popping up slowly but surely. Are yourDd's itchy yet - how is she coping in the heat ?
Mum2 Yes the garden has kept me sane too - luckily we got them garden toys for their birthday so they have plenty to dom out there.
We are off to stock up on porridge and bicarb.
Good Luck everyone Smile

tattyteddy · 28/07/2012 09:55

Hello, day 6 for is today and they're scabbing over. I was really upset when my 16 month DD had loads on her face. Sad

I'm hoping they'll be all scanned over by Monday, it's been a tough week! Xxx

mum2twoloudbabies · 28/07/2012 10:31

Morning day 6 is definitely a turning point, feeling much better here. Have to say the combination of piriton, , sudocreme and oat baths has meant neither of them have been particularly itchy.

Dd had quite a few on her face and 2 that are particularly worrying me because I think they are going to scab. Ds has loads on his face and lips they look really awful. But dd is now on day 16 and she is pretty much healed and nearly all gone just a few marks left.

Hope you all have the weather to get out in the garden.

ThePhantomPlopper · 28/07/2012 16:38

I'm back. DS6 has broken out, exactly 14 days after the girls started with them. He has a massive swollen gland in the side of his neck and cold symptoms but is quite happy for now.

Another week stuck in the house.

tattyteddy · 28/07/2012 17:35

Oh no, hope DS6 is ok with it xx
