Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Good news ValiumQueen dds scabs started to drop off yesterday day 9. Although she does still have 3 spots that haven't scabbed over yet.

Will add to your summary dd was not ill at all in the run up, the spots just appeared. In fact we were on holiday and she was having late nights and partying with the best of them. (Sorry to anybody we infected at kids club!)

It wasn't until night of day 2/day 3 when she started feeling ill. Then she had temp, bad nights and itchy. Break through day of feeling better was night day 5/6.

We had oat baths as it was the only way she could tolerate water on her skin. Fully dosed on piriton for the itch and ibuprofen for the temp. Plus poxclin to help soothe and fight infection. Finally, sudocreme to help dry up the spots works a treat.

We're day 10 and still not fully clear but not far off thankfully.

Thank you all for sharing your tips on managing the pox.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 22/07/2012 07:05

So pleased the spotty dc are improving! Grin

How do I stop ds picking his mega spot? It is now a mega scab on his nose and just as its starting to look a bit better he picks it in his sleep and ends up with a bloody mess :(

fivegomadindorset · 22/07/2012 07:11

We are pox ridden and now on day 3, DS not eating at all, temperature, been up since 5am and threw up his bottle of milk at 6 so any suggestions on what he may like to eat apart from dairy products would be useful.

ValiumQueen · 22/07/2012 07:37

whenisit how about putting socks on his hands, after he has fallen asleep, and make sure it is kept slathered with cream? I dont think there is any magic way unfortunately.

five I think it depends how old he is. If under a year I think the advice is to keep giving milk, but if older I would think so long as they are getting fluids on board, they will cope without food for a while. I found ice pops a good way of getting fluid in. If he is young would it be an idea to call NHS24? Dehydration is a big concern for little ones.

fivegomadindorset · 22/07/2012 07:46

He is 4, the bottle is a comfort thing, going shopping so will add ice pops on to list.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 22/07/2012 08:24

Ds loves frozen apple juice when he's poorly. I stick bits of straw in to make mini lollies. :)

He won't tolerate anything on his hands at night as as he's still waking 2+ times because of the pox he'd have plenty of opportunity for removing them. Hmm

ValiumQueen · 22/07/2012 08:51

five I had visions of him being 5 months old. At age 4 I would just give him whatever he fancies, within reason.

when duct tape?

mum2twoloudbabies · 22/07/2012 22:21

five ice pops did it here, also helped with the spots in the mouth. Fruit as well. But what Valium said but as much fluids as you can get in, don't worry about milk for a few days if he doesn't fancy it.

meria · 23/07/2012 07:12

Hi hope you don't mind me gate crashing. :)
I have a nearly 9 month old girl who yesterday had one spot which by evening had blistered was in contact with pox exactly 2 weeks ago today and this morn i expected her covered........ she's not spot is just bigger and more angry..

What you think more spots by tomoz?? Not pox???

I also have a 6 year old who as i remember just woke covered :/

hypnotisingchickens · 23/07/2012 08:18

I'm afraid that's exactly what happened to DS- one angry spot for two days, then completely covered. 7 days later he's back to his usual jolly self, and all scabbed over. Sounds like we got off quite lightly and can go on holiday afterall Grin
Hope it passes nice and quickly for you.

meria · 23/07/2012 08:31

This is what i thought. i hope she gets off lightly. my 6 year old had at age 3. Was a nightmare. hoping little one Will cope and i can cover her easier with babygrow.... but the weather lovely she's gonna get so hot and bothered :(

mum2twoloudbabies · 23/07/2012 08:43

meria so young Sad makes it much more difficult. Well as expected but slightly earlier DS has now got many suspicious looking spots on his torso. Looks like we have another fortnight of confinement, hoping DS gets over them more quickly than his big sis.

Hi all!
Anyone know how long you're meant to use the poxclin for? We're on day 11 and the scabs are dropping off in a lot of places. His skin is pretty damaged but I'm wondering how much use it is now and whether I should go for something else or leave it alone to heal now. Confused

meria · 24/07/2012 04:22

Hey. i no so young....
Day 3 and still only hand full off spots :/ surely by now she should be plastered ???? Now worrying if she does get good dose of it she Will catch again!? Iv had them 3 times :( 1st time i was covered as a child. other 2 just 3/4 spots.
she's coping really well bit off iburofen n oiliatum off docs for in bath .
Hopefully she's gonna cope fine :)

mum2twoloudbabies · 24/07/2012 06:56

Whenisit I stopped using it when the scabs started falling off and there didn't seem as much chance of infection from itching. However, I did restart dds eczema cream which also mildly helps fight infection of broken skin, her eczema had flared up while she was ill.

meria dd only had huge amounts of spots on day 4 they just gradually accumulated over the first 3 days and beyond. Didn't stop getting new ones until about day 7 although she was feeling much better by then.

mum2twoloudbabies · 24/07/2012 11:17

Oh good lord DH has them now. I hate the pox!

ValiumQueen · 24/07/2012 13:58

Oh mum2 that is not fair! Poor DH. Grown ups get it bad apparently. Thinking of you and yours x

Leg not too itchy as weather rubbish. Only occasional breaks in the rain (Scotland).

DD2 back at Nursery today. She keeps scratching her queen spot, so it bleeds, but is safe for her to go as long past infectious. If it doesn't scar it will be a miracle.

meria · 24/07/2012 19:29

Hey guys..
Your right i have just put a very spotty Amber to bed!!!! She ok in herself but its just so hot. iv been using porridge oats in tights in the bath. really soothed her :)

My little one had terrible itchy day my aunt suggested piriton but yiu cant give under one so i gave nirse at docs a ring n theyve prescribed her some :) deffinatly helped plus the virashoothe!!!!

tattyteddy · 25/07/2012 22:39

Another pox house here Sad.

Day 3 for us today, and I praying it gets better from now. My DD who is normally a good sleeper wouldn't go down until just after 10pm! I'm also having trouble giving her medicine, as she either refuses it or spits it out, anyone any tips?

Xx

mum2twoloudbabies · 26/07/2012 08:18

meria you are new! check out the acronyms section at the top. Glad you got the piriton. We already have it on prescription as both dcs have allergies.

Ds not sleeping here either, I had 3 nights of this with dd last week so 1 down 2 to go! Fingers crossed.

Ds only happy in the bath so I can see me spending a lot of time in the bathroom over the next few days. We're also having to go nappy free today as he has so many on his bits and bottom. I'll be following him everywhere with a potty!

tattyteddy have you tried a syringe and not taking it out until she's swallowed it?

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/07/2012 07:54

Dd has 3-5 small blistery/ pimple type spots this morning. :(
It's the bloody pox isn't it. :(

It's 14 days since ds had spots so they must be chickenpox, it's possible they're just heat related but as some are on her forehead and not in a crease/ hot bit I think it must be. There isn't anything else thu could be is there?

AAAAAARGH!!!!! FUCK OF BASTARD CHICKENPOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Angry
