Anyone else's DC got/had this virus?

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:11

DS (9) symptoms since Friday

Going hot and cold
Phlegmy cough
Lying on settee all day-very unlike him
Zero appetite/ loss of taste
No sleep due to cough
Sensation of 'moving' when lying down and sensation of 'falling forward' when sitting up.

Been to GPs. Told it's a virus (i though it could be tonsilitis but no) and it could go on for 7-10 days, administer Calpol, Nurofen, plenty to drink etc.

Is it just DS?

No, it was my DD last Tues-Thurs, my DS Thurs-Sat and me Fri-Sun! You have my sympathies. The moving/falling sensations are to do with fluid in the ear. When DH got home from a trip away on Friday night he found me lying on the sofa, boiling hot, with both DCs still up. I could have got them out of the house if there had been a fire but that was just about all I was good for.

Hope your DS feels better soon.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:19

Thanks MrsMcEnroe, that makes me feel better. He doesn't seem able to do anything other than lie on the settee. The trip to the GP's wiped him out. He's not arguing with his brother or eating chocolate. Sad It's half term too. 7-10 days may be a bit of an exageration perhaps?

alemci · 14/02/2012 19:24

My DS was off school for a week before half term feeling really ill with things spinning around and moving fast and a horrible cough. very lethargic

he is ok now.

school said the virus was going around horrible

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:26

It's vile isn't it? I really hope DH, DS1 and I don't get it. Sad Quietest half term I have had for a while.

incywincyspideragain · 14/02/2012 19:31

my ds has something that sounds similar - he's only 2 so no idea about dizzy feeling but he has a really runny tummy, very small appetite, no cough, sleeping lots and on off fever now since Friday.

We're not the only ones, sounds like its going round the whole nursery, lots of children coming in each day only to be sent home, I'm determined they have a day at home well before going back. Luckerly its half term and my mum and dh can have boys - I hope other 2 don't get it... hope your ds is on the mend soon x

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:34

Oh I somehow forgot the runny tummy, he's had that too incy. Your poor DS.

OP posts:
whojamaflip · 14/02/2012 19:37

Yep ds1 had it a couple of weeks ago and is only really back on form now - his discription was thet he didn't really feel like he was in his body. Ended up on steroids and antibioctics from the doctor before he got better (asthmatic). BUT none of the other dcs have caught it Smile so that maybe a bit of good news

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:41

I did feel like 'neurotic Mum' taking him to the Docs but the moving/falling forward thing freaked me out. Fingers crossed that he keeps it to himself. Grin

DD has got something (Age 3). Very high temperature. Sitting on sofa. Not eating. Keeps saying her eyes hurt.

incywincyspideragain · 14/02/2012 19:43

sparkling thats probably because your ds isn't using a potty like mine Grin

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:47

I have gone back to helping him wipe his bum though incy. Blush It was everywhere

I am sorry about everyone's DCs that have this virus too, but I feel comforted that it's not just DS. Smile

OP posts:
incywincyspideragain · 14/02/2012 19:49

starlight you just reminded me to post this link www.meningitis.org/symptoms ds definitely has a virus but the symptoms that he had were similar to start with, we were neurotically checking ds constantly to start with as he had fast breathing but I think that was due to fever, I'm always worried that someone will be reasured by a thread like this and miss something else (or I worry too much Blush)

incywincyspideragain · 14/02/2012 19:51

aww sparkling that definitely sounds like the same runny tummy, your poor ds (you know they're ill when they are your ds's age and let you help!) I've been impressed and supprised ds has made it to the potty, lots of complaining of a sore tummy too Sad

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:51

Thanks incy. That is a good point to make. We had a scare with DS when he was little.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:53

Yes, loads of tummy ache. The runny tummy has stopped but he's still going up to sit on the loo because the feeling hasn't gone away. He had just tried an ice lolly but says it 'tastes funny'.

OP posts:
incywincyspideragain · 14/02/2012 21:35

I wondered if ds was finding things funny tasting - he's eating some things (mostly good comfort food - had shepherds pie tonight) and not others - no real interest in fruit or yoghurt for example, oh and will eat cereal but sheddies don't make good runny poo!! I'm sure they're not ment to have too much fibre are they with runny tummy are they?? drinking lots though which I can mix probiotics and vit c in...

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 07:27

Another night of non stop coughing. Sad

OP posts:
redridingwolf · 15/02/2012 08:00

Is it labyrinthitis? My SIL has just had it. Goes away eventually, but best to see a doctor. You can get medication to stop the dizziness symptoms (for adults, don't know about children).

Gincognito · 15/02/2012 08:07

Starlight, has your dd been seen? Not wanting to scare you but those symptoms sound like how I felt when I had meningitis (particularly the eyes hurting).

My ds is just getting over a d&v type bug. Now I've got it :(

wheredidiputit · 15/02/2012 08:11

Yep.

DD2 (4yrs) has been off with cold, eyes hurting and keep going white and saying her head feels funny.

DD1 (8yrs) is doing an impression of a 'dead man walking' full of cold and the same as dd2.

And now me and DS are staring.

StarlightDicKenzie · 15/02/2012 08:57

Thanks Gin. No she hasn't been seen, but she is much better today with no temperature.

Marne · 15/02/2012 09:02

We have had it too, dd1 has drove me nuts with the 'funny taste' in her moth, she barely eats anything as it is but now she has this virus its made it even more tricky. Dd1 came down with it over a week ago and although she's almost better she still complains of the taste in her mouth and a odd feeling in her throat. Dd2 was next to have it shortly followed by me, i think we aqre over the worst of it been it seems to linger for quite a while.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 09:25

He says this morning that his tonsils are fizzing. Confused. This is one strange virus. He's drinking iced water and won't eat anything at all as it all tastes wrong. Sad

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 10:30

Has anyone got the terrible breath? It could peel wallpaper. Sad

OP posts:
Marne · 15/02/2012 10:58

Dd1 always has bad breath when poorly Sad, hope he feels better soon, with dd1 it seems to come and go but is worse at night and early morning.
