Anyone else's DC got/had this virus?

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:11

DS (9) symptoms since Friday

Going hot and cold
Phlegmy cough
Lying on settee all day-very unlike him
Zero appetite/ loss of taste
No sleep due to cough
Sensation of 'moving' when lying down and sensation of 'falling forward' when sitting up.

Been to GPs. Told it's a virus (i though it could be tonsilitis but no) and it could go on for 7-10 days, administer Calpol, Nurofen, plenty to drink etc.

Is it just DS?

We have no cold or snot yet Springing. I hope DS hasn't missed out on any aspects of the horrible virus. Sad So everyone caught it fairly quickly then?
DS started with it a week ago so wondering if we will all get it.

SpringingAllTheWay · 17/02/2012 08:32

I got it Saturday and then 2 of the dc came out with it Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Little one (4) fine and dp had no symptoms so am hoping it has bypassed them!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 17/02/2012 08:34

I had it. Horrendous. Lasted two full weeks from start to finish the second week being predominantly a hacking cough which nearly made me sick. First week was the flu like symptoms, no energy, hot and cold, totally congested nose and almost constant nose blowing. Was awful, I have not felt that ill in a long time. Luckily, DD and DH didn't get it. Really sorry for those of you and also your DC who get it. Sad

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 17/02/2012 08:37

Oh yes, forgot about the explosive diarrhoea , just to add extra excitement! Grin

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 08:50

Oh yes The squits Ethel. DS informed me it was like soup one day and also 'lime green'. Shock

Merrythulu · 17/02/2012 10:00

Yes, we've all had this one - although bizarrely DD and DS1 have escaped so far! We're all still recovering - still have the cough, the squits, and not really wanting to eat much.
I have a theory that it's germ warfare from Iran! :o They've not been working on nuclear weapons, but on wiping us out with the squits!
But seriously, my Family OUtreach Service Worker said that there'd been much less flu this year, but far more nasty other viruses.
For me, I actually had a bit of relief from my other autoimmune illness while having it, but now that's going, the other stuff's coming back! Confused

BenderBendingRodriguez · 17/02/2012 10:11

Very reassured to find this thread, as my 3yo DS has also had it - I've never seen him so ill. He spent all day Sunday shivering on the Sunday with a temp peaking at 40.6 Shock Burning red cheeks, pale everywhere else, no appetite, totally vacant, coughing and retching. But by the sound of it we have got off fairly lightly, since he only had one bout of bad poo and sickness. He is over the worst now but like lots of your DC, still really wiped out, not really eating much and very snotty. So our half term has been very quiet too as he just hasn't had the energy to do much other than lie on the sofa.

I was worried that baby DD would get it too but she seems to have missed out on the feverish worst, just coughing badly and a bit grumpier than usual. Can't really tell whether she's had the squits Grin DH and I have also dodged it; I don't feel tip top but that could just be 6 months of sleep deprivation.

Here's hoping everyone is better soon!

BenderBendingRodriguez · 17/02/2012 10:11

shivering on the sofa Hmm Curse you, sleep deprivation.

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 11:08

The 'vacant' bit is scary. DS2 usually has a lot to say.

happydayyay · 17/02/2012 12:00

Sparking I got some glucose powder in a box from chemist you can add it to anything Iv put it in dd tea milk water and some porridge which she actually had a couple of spoonfuls yesterday! Smile It doesn't have any flavour and defiantly seems to be helping. We have been lucky that she hasn't had runny nappy just bit softer as she is always constipated . Hope everyone better soon what a rubbish week off Sad

piellabakewell · 17/02/2012 12:26

Sounds like me...a complete waste of half term!

However, I was off work anyway and my DDs are old enough to make themselves useful. I quite like the "I only cook dinner, you have to get your own breakfast and lunch" rule I have implemented and think I may keep it in place Grin

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 13:01

I am just pleased we hadn't booked to go away or had lots of trips planned. It would all have to be cancelled. I feel sorry for DS2 that he's going back to school on Monday (hopefully) not feeling very refreshed. Sad

OP posts:
Merrythulu · 17/02/2012 19:29

I thought we were all out the other side - temps gone, coughs down to 'just' a cough, all eating again, and then BAM! my temp went up again, and now DH's is on the up - kids seem to be ok so far though. Will this thing never bloody end? It's been about four and a half weeks now. Angry Angry

countessbabycham · 17/02/2012 19:33

Mine have similar with dizziness being a real feature and I have been told its flu.

Started with headaches, then all the rest.....

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 19:34

Oh Merry poor you, I have been dealing with DS for a week and it has been horrible. I thought he was ok today but he is currently sat on the loo exploding again. Sad

OP posts:
countessbabycham · 17/02/2012 19:42

Everyone else in the house has it but I have had the flu jab,and so far so good (fingers crossed). That makes me further believe its the flu - at least with my family.Mine have all complained of tummy ache as well, and some vomiting.Obviously high temperatures, snot, aches, hot and cold, and extreme lethargy and tiredness too.

I wish everyone well soon.

muddymooncups · 17/02/2012 19:54

Thanks for posting this OP. Smile

My DD has had this all half term.Sad

Not eating
chesty cough/phlem
smelly breath ( from 10 feet away)
tummy ache
dizzyness/headache
very pale

the thing is she hasn't got a high temp.

She's been for her hospital app. this week and her consultant , checked her over and said she was off colour. Consultant also said it will be a virus. < no shit sherlock - Grin )

I just feel sorry for DD we had a great week planned, will have to wait until Easter.Sad

We've had lots of duvet/tv/stories and cuddles, instead this week. Grin

I hope she's ok to go back to school Monday. She will also miss her swimming lesson, tomorrow.

I hope your DC gets better soon! As well as anyone else who's got this rotten virus.

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 19:57

Sad Muddy. I am worried DS has missed out the vomiting bit, because we haven't had that yet. He 's got a footy match tomorrow but I don't think he will be playing.

OP posts:
muddymooncups · 17/02/2012 20:03

No vomit here either ( crosses everthing i can Blush )

It just wipes them out. Sad.
Dd keeps taking herself off for a lie down. She hasn't even been on Moshi Monsters this week.Shock.
Just not like her, at all. Sad

muddymooncups · 17/02/2012 20:05

sorry - everything.

I hope your Ds is up to playing footy soon.

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 20:06

Yep, no PS3 which is unheard of. Shock He had an argument with DS1 earlier which made me think he was improving though, because he hasn't argued with any of us for a week.

OP posts:
muddymooncups · 17/02/2012 20:10

sparklingbrook Grin He's on the mend then! Grin

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 20:13

I have never been so relieved to hear a silly argument over nothing muddy. Hopefully it will be school on Monday. Grin

OP posts:
muddymooncups · 17/02/2012 20:14

Grin Little pleasures, hey. Grin

countessbabycham · 17/02/2012 20:21

Its my general rule of thumb too that when the recovery begins, the fighting resumes. Mine are giving each other cuddles,so a way to go yet (but it is very sweet...)
