Anyone else's DC got/had this virus?

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 19:11

DS (9) symptoms since Friday

Going hot and cold
Phlegmy cough
Lying on settee all day-very unlike him
Zero appetite/ loss of taste
No sleep due to cough
Sensation of 'moving' when lying down and sensation of 'falling forward' when sitting up.

Been to GPs. Told it's a virus (i though it could be tonsilitis but no) and it could go on for 7-10 days, administer Calpol, Nurofen, plenty to drink etc.

Is it just DS?

So pleased I came on here as been worried about dd she had a cold for 2 weeks and not eating much but last wed the high temp started went to docs 2 days running got no help but fri she couldn't keep anything down and had phlem coming out of mouth and couldn't stop doing a weird cough rushed to hospital and it was tonsilitas she is 5 but sn so couldn't tell us what was wrong. She hardly eats anyway but it's been a week now and hardly had anything but fluids! Oh ment to say she now seems like she has another cold and cough with loads of phlem . Roll on summer .

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 11:17

Poor you and DD happy. I really thought DS had Tonsilitis but apparently not.

happydayyay · 15/02/2012 11:34

Thanks sparkling dd had the really awful breath too it made me feel a bit sick that lasted a couple of days she's on antibiotics it took 4 of us to hold her to look in throat so it was only a quick look doc wasn't impressed as spit went on his face . Hope your dc is better soon. We are fed up sitting in cant have friends round Incase they get it !

ranteetheranter · 15/02/2012 11:37

Same virus here too its a real nasty scary one isn't it.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 11:39

I try not to be a neuroitc Mum but this has been quite scary. He has been so quiet and wanting to go to bed which is so unlike him. It seems to be dragging on and on.

OP posts:
Elibean · 15/02/2012 11:41

My friend's ds had this just before half-term, she said she'd never seen him so quiet (aged 5). No raised temp, either - just wiped out, dizzy at times, bit snotty.

He also said his heart 'felt funny' which can't have been too reassuring for his poor Mum! He's fine now though, it was a virus.

Hope your ds better soon, OP

Abra1d · 15/02/2012 11:41

We've all four of us had this. Sympathies. It does go.

I had a rash, though, 48 hours after I felt better. STill have it, two days later. Just a mild covering of spots on my torso and upper arms.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 11:53

I am so glad I asked, and started this thread. I really thought he had something very odd. Wiped out sums it up Elibean, he has been almost 'vacant'. Sad

Glad to hear it starlight.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 18:40

Hi all. DS seems to be improving. Another sleepless night, and coughing well, but seems a bit brighter.

OP posts:
happydayyay · 15/02/2012 21:57

That's good sparkling my dd has eaten a bit more today too Smile

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 22:04

What a fun half term happy. Sad By the time he's back to normal it will be back to school.
Glad to hear your DD is on the up.

happydayyay · 16/02/2012 10:16

How's ds today ? Sparkling . My dd seems much better at last nose has stopped running at moment and phlem eased up a bit . Eating is very slow though she never eats much anyway. Been a boring half term as kept her at home Incase cold weather made her worse. Hope you can enjoy the rest of week off Smile

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2012 10:59

He coughed a lot less last night thanks happy. He is up and dressed. Grin

whojamaflip · 16/02/2012 16:59

Ds1 had a relapse - back to docs today and on another course of antibiotics - same symptoms as before only now he is also streaming HUGE quantities of neon green snot Shock Hopefully he will be ok to head back to school on Monday.

Abra1d · 16/02/2012 17:01

My son is better; my poor husband is much worse--fever and rigors, alternating. Terrible cough. Seems to have turned from a head cold into something nastier. I am keeping an eye on him.

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2012 17:32

It's horrible isn't it? DS was on the loo half the morning, but since then he has cheered up a bit. Not eating very much though.

OP posts:
Marne · 16/02/2012 21:43

Sparkling-dd2 had an explosive bottom with it too (nearer the end of the virus) and the snot lasts for a long time Sad.

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2012 21:46

It's like two steps forward and one back isn't it Marne? He said his poo was like 'soup'. Sad
Haven't noticed the bad breath today, but he's coughing again this evening. I really hope nobody else in the family gets it.

OP posts:
incywincyspideragain · 16/02/2012 22:52

my ds has shaken off the fever (after 6 days) and poos seem back to normal, eating a normal amount but still very tired, its wiped him out, another huge nap this afternoon - oh and now the cough has started Sad I think everything is loosening up on his chest.

luckerly so far the rest of us have escaped it but ds1 is very peeved to have had to spend half term at home, promised him a day with daddy on Sat so hopefully he'll be less of a grump

sparkling hope no one else in your family gets it either - seems like a bit of a lottery, we're hearing of friends who all have it and us with just one... so far...

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 07:25

Wonder what the 'incubation period' is Incey? Sad I think it's the lethargy now that DS2 is suffering with like your DS.
I will know when he's ok because the bickering with DS1 will resume. Grin

TrinityRhino · 17/02/2012 08:19

I'm glad I'm not the only one

but it sad to see so many of our dcs are struggling

dd1 has been ht the hardest

dd2 and gecko had a couple of days of it is all

dd1 is nearing the end of week three Sad

she has headache, sore throat, dizzyness/spinning, hideous cough, high temp, lack of appetite and the runs (forgot about that on my other thread)

shes feeling very sorry for herself and been trying to go to school when she doesn't feel too bad but feeling dreadful the whole time shes there

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2012 08:21

It is vile Trinity. Every time I think he's a bit better he's on the loo again, or coughing his lungs up again. Sad
He's up now but I doubt he will want anything to eat. What a crap half term it has been. I just hope he's ok by Monday.

SpringingAllTheWay · 17/02/2012 08:24

We've had it here. I caught from children at work and have passed it round throughout half term. Feel guilty but luckily I am well enough now to look after the dc!
Mine started with horrible headache and cough, then the next day i got flu like symptoms, shivering, aching everywhere, no appetite. All I could do is lie down! Also felt like I was lightheaded and felt totally spaced out with it.
4 days in, ft cold symptoms too like blocked nose and sneezing but these were not part of orinignal symptoms! Cough still bad though and I'm 6 days in now!
Ds has it Badly at the mo but his temperature keeps spiking and he has hallucinations with a high temp.

Rally feel for everyone, is a horrible virus and I've never seen anything quite like this that is knocking everyone for six so strongly in all my years!
