i'm fine thanks prawn...how's your cake?!

accidentprawn · 13/02/2012 17:00

its lovely. its all been eaten

she and DD are out walking the dog. Its not too cold today!!

Oblomov · 14/02/2012 08:19

If she doesn't want to have a pump, that is totally fine. Shes' only just been diagnosed, so lets give the girl a here.
And as I said before I totally get the not wanting to be attached 24/7. I felt like that too. But now I have one, I would not be without. You would be surprised how easy it is. It just clips on. To a bikini aswell. It is small, most poeople who see it think it is a pager. Ask if I'm a doctor !! And it just clips on, to the bit that goes inside your tummy, so very easy to clip off, when you go swimming/ have a shower/ and when you errr you know, get jiggy with it Wink. And then you just clip it back on again. So easy.
But these are all things that she can consider later. I think she's got enough to get to grips with at the moment.
Plus they won't give one to her unless she really wants one. They cost thousands of pounds, for the actual pump initially, and the tubing and syringes that you use all cost thousands per year, so annual maintenance for the health authority. No health authority gives them willingly, bcause they are way way more expensive that cheaper novo-pens, to run.

accidentprawn · 14/02/2012 08:50

she has turned the pump down oblomov. I agree that they are really expensive!! at the moment, she is still getting used to it all. she has taken to it really well actually! she knows why she needs insulin and she is proud of the fact she is different but will never let it stand in her way iyswim.

paddyclamp · 14/02/2012 17:24

like i said though prawn, be prepared for the fact that she may rebel...i LOVE it when people don't know i have diabetes and don't think i'm any different..not that it bothers me or anything..but i dunno, can't explain it really lol!

Oblomov - does the cannula stay in when you..you know?!?! Doesn't that mean going without insulin a while when you go swimming?

paddyclamp · 16/02/2012 22:27

how are you all doing prawn?

accidentprawn · 20/02/2012 20:58

fine thank you paddy
Laptops been broken so just fixed today finally back :)

accidentprawn · 21/02/2012 18:52

she had a hypo today :(
was 0.4. she is in bed according to sis, has a migraine and just can`t recover from it.

paddy she might rebel when shes older. atm shes not the rebel i was when i was 13...

Oblomov · 21/02/2012 19:22

Sorry to hear this prawn. I have had some horrific and I mean really horrific hypo's in my time. Her migraine, as you call it, oh I have had those. They are slightly different from migrianes. Its a hypo headache, that is often so bad you can't bear light, and there is nothing that can be done at all, other than sleep it off. I don't properly, totally recover from a very bad hypo for 2-3 days.
Hope she feels better soon.

accidentprawn · 21/02/2012 19:37

she`s in bed oblomov in the dark no lights on. i think she is going to sleep now. I hope she feels better soon..
You and paddy are really supportive and helpful! thank you and have a big ((((hug)))))))

paddyclamp · 22/02/2012 16:05

Nice to be of some use Prawn! :)

Does she usually suffer from migraines?....Thankfully i've never had one (touch wood) but i do sometimes get hypo hangovers like OBLOMOV describes - they're not good :/

accidentprawn · 22/02/2012 16:41

she does get headaches but never this bad.

accidentprawn · 25/02/2012 07:20

Sis has arranged a clinic appointment, she was unaware that hypos can be this bad. They are going on tuesday as they wonder if the honeymoon period is starting to draw to a close.

paddyclamp · 25/02/2012 10:54

Don't forget Prawn...it's tempting to blame everything on the diabetes but this current illness may well be nothing at all to do with it...it could be a virus / hormones etc

If she's having lots of hypos i'd say the honeymoon could be at its peak..some people have been known to come off insulin altogether for a short while!

accidentprawn · 25/02/2012 11:12

i agree, it is easy to blame evreything on it. i reckon its hormones Wink

accidentprawn · 27/02/2012 15:55

how are you paddy ?
saw niece this weekend. went to a concert with her and my sister. she was okay when i saw her. :)

accidentprawn · 28/02/2012 18:27

the clinic are keeping her on the insulin. They say its just hormones, periods might start soon which might be sending her body a bit mad!

paddyclamp · 28/02/2012 21:50

hormones sure do have a lot to answer for.....i remember what pregnancy did to my levels!!! stress is the same!!!!

accidentprawn · 29/02/2012 16:47

She and DD have been talking on the phone and i overheard her saying that her life has been turned upside down. It broke my heart to hear her say that.
Me and Sis know that she is coping but neither of us have to do everything to do that she does.
paddy come and tell me that im being a very overprotective auntie please!

paddyclamp · 29/02/2012 21:08

thing is prawn it's bound to do that..but it won't always feel that way! it will become normal...and sure there'll still be times when it annoys her,esp cos she's a teen....also she was diagnosed at a much trickier stage of life than me, i was quite a bit younger

give it a year i would say till she really comes to accept it....it honestly doesn't bother me now, apart from the odd day when i have a bad day!

accidentprawn · 02/03/2012 16:05

Hopefully this time next year it will be normal.
How old where you when you were diagnosed paddy

She went on a school trip the other day - first time she has been anywhere for the day without her parents except school since being diagnosed. She had a hypo which caused her to feel weak for a while and she had to do bloods in front of her whole year! Apparently everybody was amazed!

paddyclamp · 02/03/2012 21:02

i got diagnosed in year 3 prawn!

i'm surprized the year aren't a bit more exposed to diabetes to be honest...most kids in our school seem to have come across it before when they land in my class so they're really good at dealing with it :)

i guess there's all the "firsts" to get through...a bit like when you bring home a new baby! ... then you become an old hand at it!

accidentprawn · 03/03/2012 07:50

I thought more people might be exposed to it as well. You don`t expect everyone to have come across it but more than just DN!
There will be all the firsts... she is not bringing a baby home anytime soon!

accidentprawn · 06/03/2012 16:00

how are you paddy ?

accidentprawn · 06/03/2012 18:15

sis rang up and has told me that DN is being bullied. some girls in the year above have called her freak child and told her that she is not normal.
it is horrid. why do it? It is not her fault it makes her her (iyswim).

< and breathe rant over>
