1.2 is very low...she's prob still in the honeymoon tbh...a true low of 1.2 would make me behave very strangely!!!

i'm entitled to a flu jab every year...don't always take them up on it though!

supermama212 · 20/12/2011 07:52

still in honeymoon - how long is honeymoon?

OP posts:
paddyclamp · 20/12/2011 15:19

usually a few months, sometimes up to a year...it happens whilst the islets are still kicking out a bit of insulin before they give up the ghost altogether :)

supermama212 · 22/12/2011 07:41

right so up to a year then? no longer?? she visits the clinic next on the 6th Jan ( a month after getting diagnosed) Xmas Grin

I don't actually remember going through the honeymoon as i was only very young..i've heard that it can be longer in teenagers..the only reason i've heard of it as some research was being done on prolonging the honeymoon and bring us nearer to a cure

supermama212 · 01/01/2012 08:08

Sounds like she def needs to reduce her insulin...is she on novorapid and lantus/levemir?

Is there any pattern to the time of day? How low is she going?

supermama212 · 04/01/2012 15:53

they have asked her to reduce insulin.
No real pattern to the time of day. Lowest she has been was 1.1

supermama212 · 04/01/2012 15:54

It still happens after all these years!!!!

supermama212 · 05/01/2012 15:41

paddyclamp · 05/01/2012 20:45

i think it's cos i'm getting back into the swing of things after Christmas and not eating / drinking as much!! I was 0.8 and that happened at school too...luckily the class were awesome

Maybe thats what it is with your DN too?

supermama212 · 06/01/2012 15:27

i did suggest that Paddy! they have reduced the insulin to 3 times and are seeing her again in a month - they are going to see her evrey 4wks till she is used to it ( they think this will be about 2-3 months) then evrey two months!

niece and sis coming down this wk/end to help me!!!! insulin she is on isnovorapid and lantus. are the insulins different?

OP posts:
paddyclamp · 09/01/2012 19:46

Yeh i'm on lantus and novorapid, it's a good regime :)

Yeh they are different...lantus is long acting and i take it every night whereas novorapid is fast acting and i take that every time i eat to cover the carbs in food, have to adjust the dose of novorapid according to what i eat

If i have a lot of bad hypos i sometimes find it's the lantus that needs to come down!!

Hope the foot isn't giving you too much pain?!

supermama212 · 10/01/2012 15:38

not too much pain!
she has started to have less hypos since reducing the insulin. she is handling it better now - i think the "novelty" is wearing of now!

OP posts:
paddyclamp · 11/01/2012 19:02

i can imagine...it is a bit of a pain in that it nevers ever goes away and you can't forget about it...but there are far worse things, i know that!

People think the worst bit about diabetes is the shots...to be if i just had the shots and blood tests to do and that was it, it would be fine...it's the constant balancing act all the time

Oblomov · 11/01/2012 20:47

Just came to say hello. hello Paddy. (we meet on lots of threads and she is, as you can see fab!)
I was diagnosed at aged 1, and am 38 now, and have been on a pump for 8 years.
I have very bad hypos and have trouble finding patterns in my blood sugars. so I go low at the same time for 2 days, then not ont he 3rd day. makes it very difficult to make changes, when you don't have clear patterns.
But they should be supporting dn so that she feels she isn't alone on trying to 'juggle this'.
Any other questions, please ask.
