Join Douglas on a honey hunt in the seventh Hugless Douglas adventure from David Melling.

The sheep are baking honey cakes and Douglas can't wait to taste them. He's sure that food without honey just isn't yummy. But can he ever be tempted to try something new?

To be in with a chance of winning a signed copy of Hugless Douglas and the Great Cake Bake PLUS a £100 John Lewis voucher, just tell us - what are your favourite bakes to create with your children? (include the recipes if you can!)

Little lemon cheesecakes. They started as the Annabel Karmel recipe and have morphed slightly. There is cooking involved (except melting butter), they just need to set in the freezer so the DDs can be fairly independent when making them. They are my dad's favourite thing in the world. And my DDs are so proud when they give their handy work to Grandpa.

I tend to use just a basic fairy cake recipe and then my son has lots of fun decorating them.

Easy peasy Cornflake or Rice Krispie cakes. Melt your cooking chocolate in a bowl over hot water then throw the cornflakes/rice krispies in, mix gently and put in bun cases. We also put marsh mallow pieces on ours before they set.

My DS is my baker and he's great by himself but likes a sous chef Grin
His ultimate bake is sultana scones and OMG they're divine. He's also very good at Afghans.

BeBesideTheSea · 19/09/2016 23:48

My DS's favourite things to bake with me are flapjacks and gingerbread shapes. With Daddy it is sausage rolls (I am veggie) and with Grandma it is chocolate cupcakes and crispy nests.

We all love baking and DS loves helping make lots of things in the kitchen

With Christmas coming soon (woo hoo) we love Nigella's Christmas Rocky Road. I also just made caramel aplle upside down cake. Truly delicious. Caramel: 175g caster sugar, 125ml water, 3 small red skinned apples, squeeze of lemon juice. Simmer the sugar and water until it is a light golden brown and put it in the tin as soon as ready. Have the apples cored and sliced, with skins on, nd place in circles around in the caramel.
Cake: 175g butter, 175g caster sugar, 3 beaten eggs, 150g SR flour, 1tsp baking powder, 2tbsp ground almonds. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs a little at a time. Sift in flour and baking powder then fold in aground almonds. Bake in 190 degree oven for 40-45 minutes.

I make good old-fashioned fairy cakes with my granddaughter, Victoria sandwich mix, then decorated with either buttercream for butterfly cakes or glace icing with lots of sprinkles or small sweets.

lhlawrie · 20/09/2016 11:05

mamof3boys · 20/09/2016 11:19

My children love making rock cakes and gingerbread men. They also like licking the bowl with any other cake that I make!

Mojito6 · 20/09/2016 11:23

Vanilla cupcakes with buttercream and usually a few too many sprinkles. They're amazing and with the help of a kenwood mixer my three year old actually does a lot of it himself.
First we mix the butter and sugar then mix in the eggs. In a separate bowl mix together flour and baking powder. In a jug goes milk and vanilla essence, always double what the recipe says of the essence.
Then add a third of the flour mix a third of the milk and then mix altogether and repeat until all ingredients are added. Bake for 15 minutes whilst making a simply vanilla buttercream. Theyre lovely and now I want cake Grin

witchyt · 20/09/2016 11:41
