Join Douglas on a honey hunt in the seventh Hugless Douglas adventure from David Melling.

The sheep are baking honey cakes and Douglas can't wait to taste them. He's sure that food without honey just isn't yummy. But can he ever be tempted to try something new?

To be in with a chance of winning a signed copy of Hugless Douglas and the Great Cake Bake PLUS a £100 John Lewis voucher, just tell us - what are your favourite bakes to create with your children? (include the recipes if you can!)

Flapjacks always go down well, with lots of added fruit, seeds and nuts

liz1970 · 01/09/2016 10:51

fairy cakes and chocolate krispy cakes are favourite in my household :)

ricola1 · 01/09/2016 11:23

Flap jacks but I always seem to burn them!

freefan · 01/09/2016 11:38

my older kids have just mastered a Victoria sponge and are so happy doing it with me just watching, now they are experimenting with adding chocolate chips or cinnamon to the basic cake mix and enjoy doing it.
They also love getting the biscuit or cake mixes and reading the instructions and it is also teaching them to work together which is a real bonus.

Definitely banana bread (with extra melted chocolate in the middle)...it's simple, fun, quick and delicious!

kerryv · 01/09/2016 12:13

Banana loaf is great. Best way to use up the bananas that are overripe. And even better, my daughter can make it all by herself.

glennamy · 01/09/2016 13:37

Ours is simply fairy cakes with lots of different toppings... As with most people a lot of the ingredients get eaten before they even in danger of reaching the oven! :)

mooota1514 · 01/09/2016 14:35

Pancakes with a multitude of toppings grin

jandoc · 01/09/2016 14:45

we love doing the simple cup cakes

rachelmi · 01/09/2016 17:22

Rice crispy cakes are easy with little ones. Melt chocolate and butter and rice crispies.

katyj182 · 01/09/2016 18:19

We love tray bakes here - tiffin, brownie and flapjack go down a treat!

farhanac · 01/09/2016 18:34

Cupcakes

juju3 · 01/09/2016 20:20

chocolate cup cakes - always a favourite

Marg2k8 · 01/09/2016 20:48

Chocolate brownies

Caelaj07 · 01/09/2016 21:43

Either just basic cupcakes with glitter and sprinkles on the top or rice crispie buns with chocolate or marshmallows

littleme96 · 01/09/2016 21:45

Homemade hobnob style biscuits, shortbread and pizza dough.

Really must get them to try making a simple sponge cake soon, although they enjoy icing/decorating the ones I make.

mave · 01/09/2016 21:45

We love baking fairy cakes and decorating with icing and various toppings!

KittyKat88 · 01/09/2016 21:48

Our two favourites are choc chip cookies (we try to make them really nice and gooey!) and either fairy cakes which my DDs love to decorate with lots of sprinkles, or a victoria sponge cake.

Charbru123 · 01/09/2016 22:57

fairy cakes!

1033MICHELLE · 02/09/2016 10:37

Simple cup cakes with icing then I let them decorate how they want with sprinkles eyc

stefalfie11 · 02/09/2016 11:37

The little ones love to make meringues - they're so simple to make just 50g of sugar per egg white and whisk until stiff. They love to decorate them with fruit too.

Alison18 · 02/09/2016 11:39

When baking with the kids, I think its easy to stick to a simple basic fairy cake recipe.

4oz Self Raising Flour
4oz Butter/Marg
4oz Caster Sugar
2 eggs

Once baked just mix up some icing sugar and this can be customised with colours by using the food colourings and they are free to decorate them as they wish. They can stick a chocolate button on top of the icing sugar, grated chocolate, or a marshmallow. Anything really whatever takes their fancy!

We like making hedgehog rolls for dipping in soup. We have the recipe from a kids cooking book.

Basically it is a normal white bread roll recipe rolled unto tear drop shapes. Then use a pair of scissors to snip some spikes and finally place 2 olive slices for the eyes.
