We have 24 squares to fill. What lines get trotted out on every thread that discusses the child free?

My suggestions:

  1. You'll need my children to be your carers when you're old
  2. Only parents understand real love
  3. Childfree people shouldn't take annual leave in school holidays

yeah my mother is one who used to say 'Oh so and so does not have children, She's too selfish'.

Even as a child I wanted to point out that my mother had no business dissing someone else. She was a violent alcoholic who used to beat me and my siblings up and threaten us with knives. We'd be taken off her in a heartbeat nowadays I'd hope. But no- deciding she was somehow virtuous just because she reproduced was just another part of her bullshit.

I am really sorry for everything you've been through, I would say something like 'that's awful' but honestly 'awful' doesn't come close to describing that.

Side note, I am mega kitten broody at the moment. Not sure my 3 would be happy if I brought another home tho. I'm hoping the universal cat distribution system works in my favour and I just find one on the street.

My sympathies, that's the only sort of broodiness I've ever felt! Main thing apart from how the three residents would take it would be, have you space and cash to take another? (I'm kind of glad I don't - my two both have expensive chronic conditions and my unit is only big enough for two cats who get along very well!)

My boy is a daily medication/ twice yearly blood tests kinda guy but my girl is solid. I would happily sacrifice for a new bundle of joy 🤣

Understandable! I miss the days of having five cats. (Well - they're all I miss about those days.)

I see we have a new But It’s MUUUUMSnet thread going in AIBU today.

Gowlett · 29/08/2023 09:15

fwd, ha ha! I was on MN well before I had a kid.
Most of the topics I look at aren’t child-related.

Oldies bashing is sooooooolast week, let's have a go at the CF.

Cakesandbabes · 29/08/2023 09:22

This is second time someone popped on CF section , got told they are wrong so went to bitch to AIBU forgetting most posters have brains so obviously it's not going well for them🤷

SideWonder · 29/08/2023 09:37

abmac95 · 29/08/2023 07:33

It is true though....

Er, no it’s not.

Anyone who says this sort of stuff, just lacks imagination and empathy.

Catsmere · 29/08/2023 09:38

Yeah, just another goady fuckwit. I see people are already saying “Are you new?”

fitzwilliamdarcy · 29/08/2023 09:40

Sorry for your thread deletion @abmac95 - you’ll have to try harder next time!

Catsmere · 29/08/2023 09:41

Bwahahaha! Mass reporting and MNHQ deleted it pronto!

Mistymist · 29/08/2023 09:43

@abmac95 You are quite a keyboard warrior, being nasty behind a screen. Does it make you feel better? Insulting people that did you no harm is a form of therapy for you? In this case, perhaps you should take a look at your own life and see what missing and forget about other people's choices.
And next time you start a goady thread, think twice about your audience. See, it didn't have the intended impact.

BadNomad · 29/08/2023 09:48

Ohh I missed it. Was it "AIBU to think CF shouldn't be on MUMSnet spreading their bitterness?"

BadNomad · 29/08/2023 09:48

Pretty much word for word. And posters saying all those bitter childfree women advising posters to LTB and abort pregnancies. It must be awful dragging around that amount of bitterness and mendacity.

BadNomad · 29/08/2023 09:55

Um what's the connection between CF and advising people to leave abusive arseholes? Are they suggesting that if we had children of our own we would want to encourage other children to be born into/raised in abusive households? Confused

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 29/08/2023 10:53

I always just assume the “All CF woman are bitter and jellus” posts are trolls- it’s such a cliche.
Plus bitter is a word that’s only ever used to insult women, and every type of women. Just not worth giving the headspace.

There isn't one. It's the SM equivalent of a trolley dash - run around throwing everything you can think of into the post whether it's relevant or not; because any stick will do to beat women who don't have children.

Somanysocks · 29/08/2023 11:52

I just don't have the 'aaah' gene when faced with a baby, or a child, and especially not a teenager, wishing I had one.

I do have the 'aaah' gene when I see baby animals though, especially dogs, but apparently that's not normal.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 29/08/2023 11:57

I can do ‘aaah’ for kids in the short term.

Kittens and puppies on the other hand….

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 29/08/2023 12:39

I work with the elderly - I have the “aaaah” gene for very very old people in bed jackets 🫠

Because childfree people are lonely bitter hags who obviously want everyone to be lonely bitter hags or some such nonsense

BadNomad · 29/08/2023 12:50

I'm neither lonely nor bitter. So not only am I a failure as a woman, I'm a failure at being childfree! 😫

Catchasingmewithspiders · 29/08/2023 12:54

BadNomad · 29/08/2023 12:50

I'm neither lonely nor bitter. So not only am I a failure as a woman, I'm a failure at being childfree! 😫

I even like children and actively spend time with them (although this failure to be a lonely bitter hag does make me a groomer and a pedophile of course, the other sterotype of a CF person that a few posters like to trot out)

BadNomad · 29/08/2023 13:07

"It's weird, isn't it? She says she doesn't want children, but she's always playing with her friend's children. It's creepy."

I miss when my friend's children were little. I used to sit in the caged ball pit with them at softplay then all the other little tots would come to join in the fun (while the other adults either looked on in embarrassment or sat on their phones).
