Hi. I got awarded recently MRC and LRM for my 5 year old. She is ASD and have epilepsy. I am so happy to be awarded and very grateful but Indo believe she should get HRC because she is hard work at nights. She is still in nappies and many nights I have to change bedding and change her due to pee sparking through. I co sleep with her so the at when she wakes up I am aware because she cannot be left alone. She wakes up at least one time during the night most nights. Many nights several times. It is a struggle to get her back to sleep and she will start jumping up and down the bed and screaming it's time for school. I have to find different ways to get her to go back to sleep. Sometimes when she does fall asleep it's close to morning when it's time to go to school. She is sometimes tired at school. I also constantly check on her when she does sleep to make sure she is in the correct position as many of her seizures happen at nights. Some of her long seizures were during sleep and I was lucky enough to be watching her when she had these. Do you think this is enough to be awarded night time care? I am considering doing a MR as the letter only mentioned MRC due to constant supervision during day time. TIA

This sounds like my daughter except she’s 3 years and 7 months. Pull ups for bed. Awake several times during the night won’t sleep alone had a 25 minute tonic clonic seizure over the summer and we were in hospital 3 days. EEG confirmed generalised and focal epilepsy. She can’t manage her feelings and has no sense of danger. The paediatrician said she didn’t see any signs of ADHD or autism but she spent 20 minutes with her! She’d constantly bang her head for the first 3 years of her life, flap hands in anticipation for things etc. She’s on 2ml of Keppra twice a day and thankfully hasn’t had another seizure she just has absences. I am hoping to be awarded at least MRC. If you do decide to do a MR would you update on the outcome please xx

Mariehanna · 25/02/2024 12:16

I will update you . Has your daughter started pre school? Sometimes they can help back up your observations.

Thank you. Yes she started in September for 2.5 days a week. The teacher always tells me every day she’s been a ‘whirlwind’ = hard work in my opinion. The paediatrician has wrote in to her school nursery I’m pretty sure they see a side to her I do

Did you have to do an MR? Or was this awarded originally?

Mariehanna · 25/02/2024 12:26

@kaysash86 awarded first time it helped havin the dm call so I could explain it better verbally than on paper xxxx

If you have a report from school that's good. When was your scan date? I hope you get what your daughter deserves. It's a shame we have to fight for it sometimes.

I’ve just dropped her teacher a message and asked her to be brutally honest with her lack of focus, behaviour and abundance of energy as she just doesn’t stop as I don’t want a medical professional who doesn’t even know her to be so dismissive if she needs some extra support. My scan date was 28/12

Can I ask is it solely epilepsy the reason you applied for DLA? I know it’s not the medical condition that matters as such it’s how it affects your daily life but it’s just been in the back of my mind that is my daughters condition enough for an award of MRC or HRC?!

Mariehanna · 25/02/2024 12:58

@Berosey54432 yes and suspected adhd xxx

Hi everyone my daughter has high rate care was awarded on Wednesday. She's due to turn 5 in June and it says on the letter they will contact me to see if I want to apply for low rate mobility then as she's not entitled to high rate mobility. Would that mean I'd have to do the forms again just for the mobility?

Is there a reason why she cannot have it now or they’ll move her to lower rate mobility potentially when she turns 5?

Cookieam · 25/02/2024 13:38

27/10 🤦

Mariehanna · 25/02/2024 14:13

@Cookieam hopefully soon! Fingers crossed 🤞 x

Marie156 · 25/02/2024 14:38

@Berosey54432 yes she isn't eligible for high rate mobility because she can walk and doesn't need it but for low rate mobility you have to be 5 to get it and she isn't 5 until June, so they said on the form they will contact me before she's 5 too apply for it

Kaz87 · 25/02/2024 14:48

@Berosey54432 you are only a week before my scan date

WhatsitWiggle · 25/02/2024 15:03

How do you know your "scan date"? All I've had is a letter that says "Thank you for your claim for DLA. We got it on 07/12/2023." And that the decision could take up to 15 weeks.
