Muva25 · 02/11/2023 18:53

Hiya
does anyone know if your on the benefit cap on UC and are awarded Dla do they remove the benefit cap for the months of waiting and back pay that too? (Sorry if this question is confusing not sure how to word it?)

Twinmummyx · 02/11/2023 19:00

Hi, I’m new here and have been looking into dla, my son 18 months has been having physio for sitting and now standing. He’s just been prescribed a standing frame as he isn’t baring weight.
what’s your views on applying for a younger baby, has anyone done it before.

Also now panicking il have a decline because I answered a question I apparently didn't need to answer and needed to put N/A just waiting for a copy of he's EHCP from thr nursery so I can call for an update and to see whether it's worth sending in and to ask if my wrong answer will have an impact on he's claim

Newbie here but I’m wondering if anyone can help with a few questions about DD’s first renewal.

Current claim ends in Jan but I sent the renewal form and evidence in September because I just wanted it done!

Will DWP continue to pay until the claim ends, then make the decision?

Also will the decision be made before or after DD’s claim ends?

I’m only catching up now so apologies if people have already answered your questions later down the thread!

You’ll keep on getting your current rate right up until the claim expires. DWP start looking at renewal’s extremely close to the date the claim expires so you’ll never have a gap in payment. If the award changes then they usually put an amount into your bank account and that’s how you’ll know whether the award has changed.

If you want to check, call them the day that the claim expires to be notified on whether the award has changed, continued as it is or has been taken away completely

He’s also, with community paediatrics, neurologist, physio, dietician and has been referred for an eye test

BoyMumGirlMum2022 · 02/11/2023 19:10

@Mummyrach13 do you know how to escalate it?
I've been waiting a month and have nothing apart from its with the DM.

I'm 29/06

It's ridiculous. I've seen on Facebook someone getting awarded from 13/07!

Hi everyone,

great to see so many successful claims.

just a little help please with UC - I was awarded 24/10 and updated UC same day and put a message on my journal but over a week later & about 5 other messages of me chasing for a reply still no reply from UC confirming the change or confirming back pay 😫 should I call or just keep pestering ? Anyone else experiencing being ignored 😂

Yep unfortunately UC are absolutely shit. You can pop another note under your journal and put it under ‘payments’ instead of ‘work coach.’ It goes directly to the DM when you put a message under payments.

You can call them too but they’ll also tell you to put a message on your journal. This is why it can take a few months for backpay to arrive in some cases because a lot of people never get responses! Keep on pestering and chasing it up

Mummyrach13 · 02/11/2023 19:16

@BoyMumGirlMum2022 info taking from a uc group is too put a note under payments saying you have been waiting since such and such date and not heard anything can it be escalated please. I personally haven’t had to do it as I have just been awarded so I’m probably going to have a wait on my hands too. Has a case worker responded to you saying they are Sending it to a DM? X

I sent my form at the start of September, and then a chase up letter middle of October. My phone number was on the form. I have had no texts, no letters. I can't ring, I just don't have the time. (I'm exhausted from child who needs 24/7 supervision, plus work. single parent.) I did try ringing while at work one day, but was on hold for 45 mins without an answer, and work just won't let me stay on hold that long.

I've now resent the form etc recorded delivery.

Has anyone else just heard nothing after applying?

When I sent my son’s claim earlier this year, I did it via Freepost and sent it in the post box which got lost😕 I only knew because I hadn’t had any contact from them so called them up and they said they didn’t have it. Sent them off again recorded delivery and also wasn’t informed they had received it until I gave them a call 3 weeks later.

With my daughters claim, I sent that off recorded delivery. When you check on the tracking on Royal Mail, you’ll see a picture that it’s been delivered as it’s in a pile of other claims. 4 weeks later and I called them to be told my daughters claim had been received but wasn’t on the system. It was basically lost for a month and a half and then suddenly found again🤦🏾‍♀️ I only received a letter that it’s been received because they wanted her birth certificate!

My experience with contact from DWP has not been great at all. If you can ever spare a moment to call 9am on the dot then the waiting time isn’t very long at all. You’ll be able to ask whether the claim has finally been received

This has been such a supportive thread! But I have one more question 😂 I’ve updated uc after one huge faff and it not letting me update uc of my sons dla is the disabled element backdated? I’ve had confirmation I’m entitled to the element going forward xx

They’ll only backdate the element if you left a message on your journal asking for it to be backdated. They won’t do it automatically unfortunately.

When you say it won’t let you update your claim of your son’s DLA what do you mean? How were they able to confirm the disabled element without it? Slightly confused by your question sorry!

You won’t be impacted by the benefit cap if you have a child that’s been awarded DLA. They’ll also be able to backpay the amounts of the benefit cap to when the DLA award started😆

PinkMoscatoLover · 02/11/2023 19:31

Twinmummyx · 02/11/2023 19:09

Sounds extremely similar to my son who has a rare genetic disorder! He’s with OT and SALT on top of everything else that you’ve mentioned. He’s now 18 months old and was awarded DLA when he was 11 months old.

You can certainly apply for your son, don’t let his age put you off. As long as you clearly explain that his care needs are higher then the average 18 month old then you’ll be fine. Maybe get his physio to fill in the page from someone who knows him as I’m assuming you see the physio the most often? Good luck!

Lealea2020 · 02/11/2023 19:32

Sorry it does come across as confusing I had to ring uc in the end 😂 so I put in a change of circumstance and it showed I’d done it but on the journal came up as a change of childcare costs but when I rang uc there end was showing dla change and no childcare costs no idea what happened so I need to ask for it to be backdated? X

Twinmummyx · 02/11/2023 19:35

Hi, ahh okay thanks for your advice. I was just reading about age may be hard to show they need more care needs. But my son has a lot more needs than his twin. We are also having genetic testing done, with my oldest daughter at the moment. But their mri scans are completely different as my daughter has brain damage from birth.
I will take all onboard thank you

PinkMoscatoLover · 02/11/2023 19:51

@Lealea2020 oh how strange! Yeah you’ll need to request the relevant elements get backdated via your journal. I’ve included the pics of what to do when it comes to UC.

@Twinmummyx don’t worry about the age. As long as the care needs are higher than a child of the same age then you’ll be alright. Include as much reports and information as possible to strengthen the claim

Was this the Swiss question? I answered this too , I answered no. I’m now worried it will affect the claim. 🥹

Yes it was the Swiss question I'm sure I answered yes because I read "did the child live in the UK at the time of the claim" part of me wants to ring them and ask if it wil affect the claim but part of me is to scared

Muva25 · 02/11/2023 20:41

@PinkMoscatoLover wow Thankyou my claim goes back to may so does that mean they have to pay what they’ve taken from the benefit cap back all the way til may? Thanks for help I’ve never claimed any of these things before it’s all so new to me!

Muva25 · 02/11/2023 20:44

@Sunshineclouds11 really omg! I don’t know how they are working on mid July when a lot of June is still outstanding they should have a set time limit to look at them really and some kind of electronic system to check your claim defo calling 9am with baited breath

PinkMoscatoLover · 02/11/2023 20:51

@Muva25 yep exactly that. Just makes sure when you’re asking for the elements to be backdated that you also ask for them to pay you the amounts that were taken off due to the benefit cap. As your child qualified for DLA IN May, you shouldn’t have had the cap on your claim. It’s just that waiting times are so long for a decision so you didn’t know you were gonna be awarded. I hope that makes sense!

I’ve just checked and I answered no 🙈 I’m going to ring in the morning, I answered no as he isn’t Swiss. I should have just left it blank but panicked. The form is so long and confusing x
