definitely second the advice to walk around. get off the ward !!

treedelivery · 27/12/2008 13:17

Where I used to work they induced people on the postnatal ward!!!!!! So you were in the bed you would come back to, listening to snoring women and babies too. Then trying to keep quite through labouring/prostin pains.

And Mightily pissed everyone was.

MKG · 27/12/2008 13:22

Can I have a piece of pie lulu? I've never had a mince pie before.

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 27/12/2008 13:36

yep, treedelivery.... i think inducing women on an Ante or Post natal ward is awful. you end up with women in pain , trying to labour quietly, not being given gas&air, trying to keep a lid on it during visiting hours, there is no privacy, no space and a recent client described it as barbaric. shame that when the maternity unit was being designed, the women's basic needs were not really considered.>>sigh>>

MKG, mince pies are delish, lots of raisins and stuff, nice warm with cream

how is the marinara sauce going down this pregnancy?

ilovelovemydog · 27/12/2008 13:39

There's a policy at the maternity hospital where I had DD and DS that if you are induced, you have a private room. And also if your baby is in special care....

MKG · 27/12/2008 13:42

Just great. Only about 10 weeks left to go. Let's just say I'm ready to have this baby and never be pregnant again though. I feel like she's using my bladder as a trampoline.

MKG · 27/12/2008 13:43

On your side of the pond they should invest in LDRP rooms. I loved laboring, delivering, recovering and spending my post partum time in the same bed in the same room. Very easy.

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 27/12/2008 13:50

that is great MKG, definitely far better. some of the labour rooms where i work share a toilet and bath

MKG · 27/12/2008 13:54

Uh, no. The whole room sharing thing is not acceptable to me [spoiled American emoticon].

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 27/12/2008 13:56

i entirely agree, i think if women want to labour in hospital, they are still entitled to have their privacy . having to share a bathroom is just not apporpriate IMO

MKG · 27/12/2008 13:59

Especially post partum. I was passing clots on the floor while walking to the toilet. Oh It's gross to think about more than one person doing that in the same room.

treedelivery · 27/12/2008 14:00

Oh God I'm always different. I like being on the postnatal ward. I got chatting to a few mums and was able to help a couple and get some help off another!! And I liked the loved up happy vibe when we compared flowers [mine sucked]

Completely crazy unique of me I realise!

treedelivery · 27/12/2008 14:02

Agree to the bathroom situation however. The hosptals in US must be massive to accomodate private rooms and bathrooms.

Worked in Aus where was like that but the hospitals were smaller, just loads of them. Private practice trait I think.

Saturn74 · 27/12/2008 14:08

How's it going, NJ?

MKG · 27/12/2008 14:11

My hospital is a small community hospital with 20 private LDRP rooms. I'm sure things are different in larger cities, especially since a lot of hospitals are cutting maternity services due to lack of funds. Figure a hospital not far from me just shut down it's maternity ward to save the hospital money.

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 27/12/2008 14:11

yes, sorry, humph, NJ.. where are you???

MKG · 27/12/2008 14:12

Hopefully she's in labor, shouting profanities at everyone, and 10 cm dilated.

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 27/12/2008 14:15

or having a delicious , health and nutritious lunch in the hospital canteen

MKG · 27/12/2008 14:27

delicious food in the hospital cafeteria?
I thought that was an urban legend.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 27/12/2008 14:27

treedelivery · 27/12/2008 14:29

Guessing tuna bake with mushy green beans and potato slices.

Saturn74 · 27/12/2008 14:29

sorry, didn't mean to be too personal!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 27/12/2008 14:42

lol tuna and cucumber sarnie actually!

it is pretty crappy being induced on the ward, i did ask if theyhad a private room when i came in lastnight, but she said they had a lady in prem labour upstairs on delivery and only one private room, i could have had it but thoought the prem lady would need it more. if i'd have known about snorty i'd never have given it away
