The thread for first time home birthers (or thinking about it) - over here!

I only just found out I was pregnant 10 days ago, and it is of course early days, but I have been doing a lot of research and am seriously thinking of having a home birth.

I'm a member of my Due March '09 ante natal club thread, but I don't want to go on about home birthing there where the majority will be planning a hospital birth (don't want to bore them!) I'd like to start this thread for all those people who'd like to talk about the pros and cons, planning, expectations and realities of home births, especially if it is your first baby, or first home birth.

Has everyone else's other halves been fine at the thought of a first baby HB? Or did you have to do some convincing?

A

hello everyone! I've not been able to get on here until now....and it seems like everthing is moving well for you, givethedog!! Keep going!

Well, I'm still here and there is no sign of baby. I lost my plug last night and had a few mild contractions this morning, but it's all amounted to nothing!

I'm going to try and get booked in on Thursday to see my midwife as I want to change hospitals.....the one I would have to go to for induction an extremelly poor rating....especially from a number of mums I've spoken to who have had normal births there. Will hopefully get another sweep while I'm there....

I'm so desperate to go into labour, it's untrue! So hard to stay positive!

Poor you Helley, keep your chin up!

Give the dog, hope you got your G and A in time!

laumiere · 10/02/2009 22:34

Not sure if anyone's linked to this already but I thought it was brilliant!

Hey laumiere - fabulous link. Have copy and pasted it into its own thread because I think it's that good (and there have been posters on here asking for specific advice on how to convince DH it's a good idea) - I have credited you!

Come on Helley!

just to update you....waters went at 11.30pm with contractions coming every 5 minutes. Called midwife after an hour and a half who came out at 2am. Things calmed down a little bit and at about 3.30am Midwife left and me and DP went to bed.....with my tens machine firmly in place and parents sleeping on the sofa! Bless....

Inbetween contractions I was actually getting some sleep to my surprise! Woke up this morning to fairly intense contractions, every 10 minutes though.

Been told that a midwife should be over this morning because my waters have broken to make sure that I'm doing ok. Fingers crossed, things pick so I can get in the pool.

Great being at home because I can eat, go to the toilet and relax in my own bed!

Will try and keep you posted!

laumiere · 11/02/2009 10:05

No problem Boobz, I already pasted it and sent it to DH!

Good luck Helley!

I really wanted to call DD Gwendolen but DH forbade it.. I think it's lovely!

Boobz · 11/02/2009 17:05

Gwendolen is lovely... could you not push for Guinevere? Similar but perhaps a little more glamourous?

Oh I posted earlier but it doesn't seem to have worked.
I'll try again

Well, today I ordered the pool (going to hire an oval, fibre glass one) and collected the homebirth kit from the chemists, so trying to get organised. I somehow expected the homebirth kit to be bigger! It's only like a duvet in a box size. Going to cover the bed and couch with plastic with towels on top. Does anyone have any other good general practical tips?

give the dog, what about Susannah? That was another one I liked. I also love Eleanor, Josephine, Dorothy, Theodora, Amaryllis, Damaris, Daria, Millicent, Laurel, Felicity, Daphne, Farrah, Scheherazad, (!)... all been vetoed by DH unfortunately.

I would pronounce it Sher-hair-is-ard-de but that's me ]. Isla Rose is a lovely name. How are you feeling Dog?

Boobz · 12/02/2009 19:02

Love it how we've all shortened your name to Dog!

I already know 3 Islas that have been born in the last 6 months, and one of those, I kid you not, was Isla Rose (my best friend's brother's daughter).

So very of the moment!

COME ON HELLEY!
