The thread for first time home birthers (or thinking about it) - over here!

I only just found out I was pregnant 10 days ago, and it is of course early days, but I have been doing a lot of research and am seriously thinking of having a home birth.

I'm a member of my Due March '09 ante natal club thread, but I don't want to go on about home birthing there where the majority will be planning a hospital birth (don't want to bore them!) I'd like to start this thread for all those people who'd like to talk about the pros and cons, planning, expectations and realities of home births, especially if it is your first baby, or first home birth.

Has everyone else's other halves been fine at the thought of a first baby HB? Or did you have to do some convincing?

I remember when the MW was having trouble getting the valve sorted on the entenox with dd2 and suddenly I was visualising this skyscraper tall martini, with bright blue tropical skies behind it and beads of condensation running down the glass - which was the wrong shape it was tall and slim instead of classic martini cocktail glass. God it was sooo real. Worked a treat!

Go boobz!

here's to rapid dilation and all!

EllieorOllie · 21/03/2009 17:21

Keep going Boobz, you're doing sterling work. I know from experience how frustrating and exhausting a lengthy latent stage is. Feels like they're taking the piss when they tell you you're not in established labour!

Just believe that it will end, and that home, at least for now, is by far the best place to be. Keep going, you can do it!!!

Oh, and when they let you have the gas and air, it's the sweetest thing in the world!

corgikelly · 21/03/2009 18:37

No one who accused you of "letting the side down" would have a leg to stand on -- one, because they'd be dead wrong, and two, because all of the Mumsnetters on this thread would kick that leg right out from underneath them.

I'm SO impressed by how brave you've been -- truly inspiring for the rest of us newbies on the March antenatal thread.

Hope you've gotten some rest, and some progress.

GO BOOBZ GO!

meep · 21/03/2009 18:43

Boobz you are amazing - you sound so calm and I know how hard that is and what hell a lengthy latent stage is - I moo'd till I could moo no more .

I went from about 3cm to 6/7cm pretty rapidly so am hoping you will too - especially if your ctx are getting regular and closer together.

It's very quiet on the March thread - we are all interloping here on the hb thread to check on progress!

tattifer · 21/03/2009 18:46

latent, that's such a daft way of describing it, where do theses medical people get there terms from?

Hang on, the Irish have shot forward, how did that happen!!

I knew it I knew it, Boywith themousey hair you legend, caught a back view of it and thought it was you. Well we are coming into our nocturnal crisis. Valley team midwifes are now off duty so had to call the hospital to ask about getting someone out, there answer.....come on in....Our survey said NO! Yeah Boobz was awesome and cue me getting a little aggro on the phone with senior mid wives phoning me to tell me I was being irresponsible but hey ho, minutes later magically they had found a community midwife. So toffees in hand and apples and bananas and lots of strong coffee for me we are going to push on through to the morning and see how we do. You are all legends and Gemzooks power to you, hope it goes really well thinking of you.

Thanks for all your support we are really going for it!!!
