Elective c section booked- tell me your stories....

I've got a date for my elective c- section when I'll be 38+6. Did anyone go into labour before their c section date? Any advice/dos and donts? I had a ventouse delivery with DD1 so would like to hear people's experiences of the op itself, post natal care and recovery- and anything else you can think of. Thanks in advance!

Thanks mumchkin, a very reassuring story! Hope your recovery continues well and enjoy those newborn snuggles...

angelpuffs · 02/01/2016 14:41

Lovely positive story mumchkin- here's hoping everyone else's go as smoothly!

Day 5,came home yesterday and a delicate but pretty good. Overall a positive experience!

hullywully · 03/01/2016 15:25

Glad you're home and all went well. I remember being 'delicate' last time but that soon changes and the healing process is so quick! Good luck with new baby Sweep. Only 4 more days until I get to meet my Mini Mini, Hully- already have a mini (1yo) Hully X

This thread is so helpful! I'll hopefully be having an elcs in 2 weeks unless breech baby moves and it's great to get some tips.
Congratulations on all the safe arrivals Flowers

I have to be at the hospital for 07:30 tomorrow morning and then they'll give me my slot for the ELCS. I'm fairly terrified but at least by this time tomorrow it'll all be over. Unless of course this breech baby has flipped and then I may decide to return home and let him come out when he chooses. Though I'm not sure. The temptation just to get it all over with, regardless, may be overpowering! Confused

Sparrowlegs248 · 03/01/2016 17:46

I had an elcs is July due to big breech baby. It is very odd but i thought it was great. Walked into greater. Wheeled out 40 minutes later with a baby!

I had a bad reaction to the spinal due to a pre existing condition but it was expected and dealt with very calmly. The op itself was fine. I was worried i would feel something but not a thing. I didn't regain the use of my legs for hours though. C sec was at noon and it was around 8pm before i could even wiggle my toes.

Catheter removed and walked (sort of.....) to the shower the next day. The worst bit is sitting up from laying down, and bending. I took my surgical stockings off myself - don't do this!

Was in 2 nights then home. Was really quite mobile by day 5 and went for a walk day 7 ( slowly)

Main issue afterwards was a couple of grown hairs on the scar.

Good luck!

ELCS here, breech baby - great, positive experience (the spinal was great especially after having had lower back and pelvis pain through much of pregnancy the relief when it kicked in was great Grin )

They put morphine in with the anaesthetic which made me very merry!

Depending on what time your booked for take lots of food for afterwards - mine was in the afternoon which meant I wasn't allowed to eat after the previous evening and afterwards I was ravenous!

If I ever do it again I think I'd take a flask so that I can still have a hot drink after DH had gone home for the night (the staff were great but clearly to busy to be running about making me tea).

NRTWT but in case nobody else has said, take a couple of pillows as they never seem to have enough and my back got sore after a couple of hours of lying in bed.

zippyswife · 03/01/2016 18:16

two best of luck for tomorrow. You don't need to be terrified. It will all go smoothly. Natural to worry though. This time tomorrow you'll be cuddled up to your baby.

angelpuffs · 03/01/2016 18:45

Two good luck and let us know how it goes!

I have mine booked for 9 days time, these stories are great, really reassuring. Hope it goes smoothly for everyone!
Just a thought but have you told your family/friends when the big day is? I am keeping it to myself but I just wondered what everyone else has done.

Fluffy24 · 03/01/2016 21:23

We kept it a secret and contacted them afterwards! It was really exciting just DH and me, with nobody else knowing.

zippyswife · 03/01/2016 22:34

Last time I kept c section a secret so only my mum and best friend knew. This time I've told everyone I'm having one so I guess they'll start to ask for a date soon!

TwoDrifters · 03/01/2016 23:07

We have only told two close friends. I feel a little dishonest dodging the daily enquiries from my mother and MIL but hopefully they'll be too excited by the news tomorrow to be annoyed that they weren't told in advance!

Thanks for all the well wishes - I'll let you all know how it goes. Flowers

BakedPotatoChangedMyLife · 04/01/2016 04:46

We haven't told anyone the date, not even my mum or best friend which is hard! Never planbed on announcing if I was in labour, just a call when baby is here safely so we're sticking to that.
Plus if the section got cancelled or postponed I'd hate to get everyone's hopes up!

BadgerFace · 04/01/2016 06:48

We've told most people our date as it was booked for DD1's birthday. Although this baby has other ideas and I've been on labour ward since 1am as my waters went at midnight... Waiting for a slot. Was supposed to go in to theatre at 5am and then an emergency needed to go in so now waiting again. Fingers crossed for the 8am slot. I am so tired already!! And have a numb bum as on a trace so can't move around...

TwoDrifters · 04/01/2016 07:10

Badger How exciting! I hope all goes well!

SweepTheHalls · 04/01/2016 08:38

Good luck Badger

angelpuffs · 04/01/2016 09:15

Good luck Badger!

Well I just got called up for my section and they gave me a quick scan to check the baby's position and he's only gone and flipped! Head now engaged so I am going home to await the natural order of things. Been up since 05:30 so it's been a bit of a roller coaster emotion wise and I'm very tired!

BadgerFace · 04/01/2016 10:08

All fine, what a lovely experience an elective is! Very calm and stiching up took hardly any time at all. DH and baby Poppy got to stay in theatre with me,

Good luck TwoDrifters!

TwoDrifters · 04/01/2016 10:43

Ah Badger how lovely! Well I can't say I'm not jealous as I would have my baby by now if he hadn't spun Angry but this is probably the best way for him at the mo, so I will have to resign myself to going with the flow!

turkeysandwishes · 04/01/2016 11:29

Two did they not give you choice to still have the cs?
I am terrified this will happen to me, its written in my notes that if he is head down on the 12th (the big day) I can still have the elcs.
I hope you're feeling ok x

SweepTheHalls · 04/01/2016 12:46

Congratulations Badger Flowers

BakedPotatoChangedMyLife · 04/01/2016 18:07

two also interested if you were given the choice as I have an elcs next week for breech and am so worried I'll be turned away if she's flipped!
