Elective c section booked- tell me your stories....

I've got a date for my elective c- section when I'll be 38+6. Did anyone go into labour before their c section date? Any advice/dos and donts? I had a ventouse delivery with DD1 so would like to hear people's experiences of the op itself, post natal care and recovery- and anything else you can think of. Thanks in advance!

Zippy- thanks for the warning! Maybe I'll stick to a bath every few days instead of daily for now. At least until my 6 week check. Re the overhang- I have a bit of an overhang but it's definitely got smaller and I'm pretty much back to my pre pregnancy weight. Didn't gain much though as constantly running around after my toddler during pregnancy!
Cloud- how tired are you? Does just the routine of dealing with kids make you feel tired by the end of the day?
Anyone else have tips to deal with the tiredness? I have an aching lower back most of the time!

I feel shattered. Is the tiredness due to the c section?? (That's probably a stupid question?!!). I'm taking it very easy. Can't walk or do much and still I am shattered. Baby is actually sleeping well so I know it's not that. I was starting to wonder whether my iron levels were low. But maybe it's just the recovery from the op?!

I put on lots of weight with this pregmancy- I was very anaemic so could barely muster getting off the sofa. Not moving about made me put on a lot of weight. I reckon I have a good stone to lose. I've always been a 10-12 till now. But 2 weeks after birth and I couldn't even consider putting on my pre-pregnancy clothes.

angelpuffs · 17/02/2016 16:40

Zippy- I'm hoping the tiredness is due to the c section. Could be iron levels too- are you taking any supplements? If I'm still feeling like this at my 6 week check I'm going to get my GP to do a blood test. I'm usually so active and the slightest thing floors me!

Yes I'm like yourself Angel. I'm always on the go I barely sit down. I was hoping that after my inactive pregnancy I could get back to my old self quickly. I guess we shouldnt be trying to run before we can walk!!

CloudOfStarlings · 19/02/2016 14:46

zippy yes I most definitely have an overhang Grin I can't see my scar without pulling up masses of flesh!! I'm a slim 10/12 usually.. With my boys I put on about 4 stone & lost it all fairly easily within a few months.. This time I didn't put on as much so hoping it won't take much to get rid of it! At the moment I'm still massively indulging in sweet treats, need them to get through the tiredness!! Plus for breastfeeding Wink but in a couple of months I'll start to think about losing the weight.. You are really shouldn't worry about your size/shape right now just focus on baby, you'll get your figure back SmileSmile

angel I'm pretty tired but then baby is up quite a lot in the night & I have 2 mad boys to run after! I function fine during the day but by evening I need to just sit down..which is annoying as there's always so much to get done!!

Have lovely weekends all xxx

Hi all I'm 5 weeks on now, but I still get pretty tired a lot of the time and also have the back pain you have mentioned. I'm really glad that this thread is here I was beginning to feel like im never going to be better!! I know no one in real life who I can talk to about c sec :(
I'm on iron 3 Times a day, the blood loss I had left me anemic , but it doesn't seem to make a difference unfortunately.
Has anyone started to think about contraception yet? I am getting a coil fitted on Monday and then starting slimming world on Wednesday, I put on about 3stones almost exactly what I lost prior to getting pregnant Sad. Oh well

angelpuffs · 19/02/2016 16:52

Cloud- think my recent extreme tiredness what in part to do with coming down with norovirus! I've had it for the past 48 hours. Also have sciatic type pain in my lower back/right bum cheek (!) which is all contributing!
Zippy- the norovirus has reduced the overhang!

Turkey- can't begin to think about contraception just yet but as we are not having more kids I'm thinking about talking to DH about getting the snip!
Let me know how your tiredness gets on. The sciatic pain in my back makes it seem worse than it is- when we're your iron levels tested? And how much blood did you lose?

CloudOfStarlings · 19/02/2016 17:10

Oh I get sciatic pain too since having ds1, horrible Sad sympathies ladies! And hope you're recovered from the vomiting angel, awful!
turkey have you tried other gentle iron supplements like spatone, or floradix? Haven't tried myself but always heard then recommended by friends. And of course, eating iron rich foods helps a lot. Hope you feel better soon, horrible being anaemic.
Contraception wise dh & I use FAM (fertility awareness method) I doubt we'll be engaging in any baby making activities for a while though to be honest GrinBlush

Not sure if anyone still looks here but...

This thread has really helped me over me some of my anxieties. It's my second time, you'd think I wouldn't have any!

Dd was an emcs three years ago and I've just seen the consultant who has booked the docs for the 14th of April (38+3) for ds.

We have had a few losses and a late mc in 2014. It doesn't actually feel real yet that we will have ds here and safe soon. I've managed to convince myself that something awful will happen during the cs and snatch him away from me at the last minute.

Anyone else feel like they started to go a bit crazy after getting the date?

Bearberry · 03/04/2016 12:30

Hi Missus, just read the whole thread too, also looking for reassurance!

I've just had my elcs booked in for 19/4 after a late loss in my first pregnancy last year. I can completely emphathise with how you're feeling, I've spent this entire pregnancy waiting for something to go wrong and now I've finally reached term I just want her out safe and sound in the most controlled way possible! I too can't believe I will soon actually have a baby, I don't think it will be real until she is in my arms. The idea of leaving the hospital this time with a baby is overwhelmingly wonderful, and as such I can't quite allow myself to believe it will happen!

I'm going for an elective c section after two difficult births! I'm curious at how different an elective one will be compared to emergency!

booked83 · 04/04/2016 14:08

This is really useful I had an emergency c section with my 2nd and forceps with my 1st so opted for a c section this time round! What would you pack?

Emma199520 · 19/11/2021 07:57

Hi, did you have anymore pregnancies after this one and did the UI happen again or not? Xx
