Elective c section booked- tell me your stories....

I've got a date for my elective c- section when I'll be 38+6. Did anyone go into labour before their c section date? Any advice/dos and donts? I had a ventouse delivery with DD1 so would like to hear people's experiences of the op itself, post natal care and recovery- and anything else you can think of. Thanks in advance!

I'm in for due date (tomorrow) too due to all the Bank Holidays. Makes you nervous doesn't it!

TwoDrifters · 29/12/2015 08:31

SweepTheHalls It really does! Hope all goes well - do you know what time yours is?

SweepTheHalls · 29/12/2015 08:32

All ELCS in for 7.15 and then wait for a slot.

angelpuffs · 29/12/2015 08:38

Any idea how they decide on the order of who goes in first....?

Haggisfish · 29/12/2015 10:08

I knew I was first as I was hugely anxious and a special midwife arranged it for me!

SweepTheHalls · 29/12/2015 10:38

None at all unfortunately, but I'll update you tomorrow!

BadgerFace · 29/12/2015 10:41

Hopefully the order is who is nearest their due date Sweep and you'll get to go first!

angelpuffs · 29/12/2015 12:39

Yes sweep- do keep us informed tomorrow if you have time Smile Good luck xx

Good luck all x

Emergencies and twins before us in our case

TaliZorah · 29/12/2015 15:44

I was first because I was nervous so they put mine as the first one

zippyswife · 29/12/2015 16:02

I was second as the other lady was anxious.

allegretto · 29/12/2015 16:06

I had a c-section at 36 weeks with twins and everything was fine. The only problem I had was afterwards when I wasn't given any pain relief (due to a mix up and when I was it was only paracetamol) so I would definitely insist on something a bit stronger!

allegretto · 29/12/2015 16:07

I was first as apparently they put twins first!

BadgerFace · 30/12/2015 12:48

I hope it's all gone well Sweep!!

LeoLemur · 30/12/2015 16:17

Glad I found this thread- I'm way behind you all- just 6-7weeks! But already thinking about this as I want an ELCS - i want to avoid the traumatic experience too many women seem to have (incl friends) with EMCS. Although it's not a given I couldn't do a v birth (though it scares me!), being an older mum I'm aware chances are higher and I'm aware that I'll need to start requesting at the booking appt in a few weeks. Anyone else requested an ELCS for non-medical reasons? Good luck to you all!

TaliZorah · 30/12/2015 16:22

Leo I did it. First baby, no reason other than I didn't want a natural birth because everyone in my family had horrid births. I got it agreed it was fine

angelpuffs · 30/12/2015 16:30

Hi Leo
I'm having an elective c section for non medical reasons- my first DD was born by ventouse so a bit traumatic but not as bad as some stories you hear. I just feel it's right for me Smile

I had an elective section with my second child at 37+5. I was attempting a VBAC, but the section was decided two days in advance due to my obstetric cholestasis taking a turn for the worse and very dodgy liver function.
Turns out, on the morning of the section, I was already 2cm dilated and in labour. I'd had tightenings and dull period pain type aches, but had no idea I was in actual labour Shock.

The section was bliss Grin. I'd had an emergency section after arduous failed induction previously, though, so maybe I was jet comparing it that...but honestly, I'd do it again in a flash. No pain, recovered well, established breastfeeding well (unlike first time around). I was in a bliss bubble for at least a month afterwards...

RubyWoooo · 30/12/2015 19:30

This thread is brilliant. So helpful. I'm booked in for a couple of weeks. Hope everyone is getting on well.

LeoLemur · 30/12/2015 20:00

Thanks Tali and Angel, good to know that's it's straightforward getting it agreed. I'll let you know how I get on. Good to hear Skibadee yours went so smooth too. Look forward to hearing from you Sweep!

SweepTheHalls · 31/12/2015 09:31

Baby Clara arrived safe and well yesterday Grin.
The procedure was tougher than I anticipated to be honest, and I am in quite a lot of pain, but she is beautiful and worth it.

hullywully · 31/12/2015 10:22

Just had pre-op. All went well one more week today. For those who haven't had a pre-op before it's a piece of cake and nothing to be worried about. It's three separate appointments: midwife check, blood test and then anethetists appointment where they talk you through the whole spinal process. Not long now ladies. Good luck all X

angelpuffs · 31/12/2015 11:00

Congratulations sweep! Was the op straightforward or were there complications? What's the hardest part now it's over? X

Turns out I have unexpectedly large blood vessels that caused a lot of blood loss.

The wound us a lot more painful than I expected, and moving around is tough, but 24hrs on I am starting to move more freely.
I may kill the Bounty woman in the bay who hasn't shut up for the last 2 hours and keeps waking me up with bloody flash photos!
