Childbirth- what is the most painful part?

Hi Ladies,

I'm 16 weeks pregnant, and am trying to prepare myself for childbirth although it seems a long way off. I've not got much of a pain threshold and have always thought labour would be terrifying.

I fancy the idea of a birthing pool, and am also tempted to try and tens machine for the early stages.

I was just wondering which bit is the most painful? Is it your cervix dilating, or physically pushing the baby out? Or it all pretty horrendous?

Thanks :)

I'm currently 40+2 and the most painful part is waiting for the little blighter to come lol.

Seriously though With my DD (2010) labour was straightforward - just gas and air - 4.5 hours long and she was 8lb4. It was very much pressure more than pain with her (I did tear (2nd•) and that hurt like a motherfucker though)

I have had stillborn twin boys (2012) and their labour was just under 6 hours and I think a lot of the pain may have been I my head because I was distraught and crying whereas with DD I was relatively calm- (although I did have a lot of drugs too to counteract the pain)

I'm hoping that this labour goes just as well as my first and that I dont need any intervention and that I can just have gas and air although if they do offer the csec that I've been umming and ahhing over I might just bite their hand off
