I'm being thick but I don't get the piano joke! Will you explain to a confused preggo brain? :)

CrabbySmallerBottom · 30/11/2013 23:12

This is true. I assume they did it to me but thank fuck I couldn't feel it. The finger up the bum is to check for anal tears and, much worse, tears between the vagina and rectum. Honestly, better that than an undiagnosed fistula/ 3rd degree tear. Wink

VisualiseAHorse · 30/11/2013 23:14

Pretty sure it didn't happen to me.

ZombieMonkeyButler · 30/11/2013 23:14

Never had 'the finger' with any of my 3 vaginal births. Never had stitches either though.

oopsadaisyme · 30/11/2013 23:16

I had 20 plus stitches with both (my lovely 10lb baby boys!), doing a 'sampler' was mentioned by the midwife, but forewarning that finger is getting up there to check would have been nice lol!!!!

No finger up my arse here either. Had stitches both times too... What did I miss out on???

caketinrosie · 30/11/2013 23:30

Heidihole, you are not thick! My DH likes to think he is a comedian and likes to repeat inane lines from films at the most inappropriate times. Hence the only people laughing were me and him. He also came visiting the next day with my ds bringing a spare box of breast pads, not one to miss a gag they ran into the room wearing them like ears whilst singing the theme tune from the Mickey Mouse club. I swear to god i should get a medal Grin

caketinrosie · 30/11/2013 23:33

Maybe those of us who are lucky enough to have joined the finger up bum hole club should rename ourselves the rectum sisters Grin

WaitingForMe · 30/11/2013 23:35

Check they haven't sewn your arse shut? Shock

How casual are some people about stitching?

My midwife did a beautiful job incidentally. Hurt like hell and she took ages to do it but clearly I was lucky!!!

MrsCakesPremonition · 30/11/2013 23:36

cake you are a star for tolerating your DH's sense of humour. Just think yourself lucky that he didn't arrive with maternity pads, doing an impression of Dumbo.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 30/11/2013 23:38

I had an indepth conversation with the midwife about bum sex when she inserted her finger to double check she hadn't stitched all the way through

notso · 30/11/2013 23:39

4 vaginal births, no anal invasion!
No stitches though.

oopsadaisyme · 30/11/2013 23:39

waiting yep, you were lucky!! Them stitches were a killer!!!

Yup had this with ds2. The dr was v apologetic though

snozzlemaid · 30/11/2013 23:59

I had this too after having ds and lots of stitches. The consultant came around the next morning and she inserted a finger and I had to clench the muscles. She said it was to check muscles hadn't been damaged.
Thankfully didn't have to go through this with dd as no stitches.

babyfedleaning · 01/12/2013 09:43

I know what you are talking about!! Little finger of a consultant who didn't even introduce himself! I had a 2nd degree tear on the cusp of 3rd - it was to check I still had anal sphincter function. Meant I was stiched up in delivery room instead of going to theatre (and a whole lot better to have a 2nd than a 3rd by the sounds of it). Currently 39+4 with my second DC and hoping I wont have to have a repeat....

mamachelle · 01/12/2013 12:24

Aha, id totally forgotten about that! Shocked me too after having dd4! It was to check that a graze that wouldnt stop bleeding wasnt anything worse. Didnt just get a finger, i had a torch shone up inside my bits too! Was far too tired to care though.

Pannacotta · 01/12/2013 12:33

Yup, am one of the "rectuem sisters" too.
Was bloody fuming with the MW who I thought was rather rough.
Had it with both births, but only had stiches with first birth.
Yuck.

IdaClair · 01/12/2013 12:51

No-one has ever put their fingers in any bit of me in the labour and postpartum bit, I don't think I'd have been responsible for my actions if they had!

princesscupcakemummyb · 01/12/2013 15:58

i had that after my 3rd baby 4 weeks ago i was shocked no one told me about it prior to delivery it was the case of the midwife saying to me now this is not nice but here goes ii was like woahhh Shock

never had it with my other 2 babys

i can honestly say it was not nice & i wish id been warned

TheGreatWizardQuiQuaeQuod · 01/12/2013 16:01

They did that to me too. Without warning or explanation. It was quite a surprise.

I still don't know why they did it.

PrincessFlirtyPants · 01/12/2013 16:04

Can you refuse it? Assuming you are given a choice! Sounds horrible.

StealthPolarBear · 01/12/2013 16:04

If I had known that was a possibility I don't think I'd have children Shock
Not happened so far and after 2 DCs I am done so hopefully never will
