Happy stories about big babies and natural deliveries wanted please!

Am almost 39 weeks and am booked for a cs at 40 weeks. Had ds by "emergency" cs following a failed induction at 41 weeks (I was a non-starter!) and he was 10lbs. They are reckoning on another big baby (but I haven't had a growth scan or anything so can't be sure.) Have got another 8 days to manage a vbac but am lurching between desperately hoping I go into labour and praying that I make it to 40 weeks and the section.

Would really appreciate a happy birth story of someone who popped out a big baby with ease! Or even better, someone who went overdue with their first, was a failed induction and gave birth by cs to a whopper and then followed it up by giving birth to a 6lber in 3 hours with no pain relief or stitches?!! Well a girl can dream!

But I probably would hardly notice having a 6th - one cough or sneeze should be all the effort needed!

brimfull · 23/02/2006 22:37

f$^&ing hell QE2

surprised no 4 touched the sides.

well done girl!!!

jinglybits · 23/02/2006 22:42

well, went 2 weeks overdue, was booked for an induction but waters broke naturally the night before. contractions were fast and furious almost immediately. this was 8.30pm, went to hospital, had gas and air, contractions stopped at about 12pm, well got so light i could hardly feel them. was told to push but had no powerful contractions to help, talk was of giving me injection to speed up contractions, i thought oh darn it, have not come this far to get drugs now when a couple of hours back when i wanted an epidural i was denied! pushed, said it doesn't feel like will come out! humoured as was my first baby, told to keep pushing, he was born 1.20am at 10lbs 7oz, mean midwife was astounded and very kindly afterwards! no tear as such but needed some internal stiches which they said were perhaps due to the babies fingernails as had quite a few small cuts. was quite pleased with it all really!

Clary · 23/02/2006 22:54

Anchovies (were you anchovy btw?) my ds2 was baby no 3 and weighed 9lbs (not sure if that qualifies as big). My easiest and best birth. Really quick, in labour about 4hrs, in hospital for last 2, popped my waters and pushed him out in 2 goes, gas and air only.
Also DS1 and DD were both late (ds1 10 days, just avoided induction) while ds2 was 4 days early.
Sorry no c-section tale but hopefully something positive for you.
Spidermama, wise words of advice there.

shimmy21 · 23/02/2006 22:54

Ds1 7lb 6 oz complicated long medical birth
Ds2 9lb (not massive but biggish) home birth, only gas and air (and an episiotomy)

The bigger the better!

all4girlz · 23/02/2006 23:07

hi
my first DD was 9lb 10oz
only had gas and air and slept through first stage
pushed her out with lots of gas and air and only a couple of stitches
but afraid I bottled it with my other three and opted for epidurals each time pain free.
Good luck and congratulations.

WideWebWitch · 23/02/2006 23:24

9lb 8oz second baby at home, 4 stitches.l
Not that easy but hey, I did it! First was 7lb at home, 6 years earlier.

My sister had 10lb second at home, no stitches, following 8lber at home 2 years earlier.

tortoiseshell · 24/02/2006 13:30

First was induction, 9lb 12, second born at home, 10lbs 2, 3 1/2 hour labour, no pain relief, no stitches!

Is that what you wanted to hear????

Kelly1978 · 24/02/2006 13:35

My second was 9lb7 and labour was agony. But having said that, it was over in 6 hours, no complications, and I got by on pethidene and gas and air.
Agree that preditions can be way out tho. My dts were reckoned to be over 7lbs at 34 weeks, but they were born at 38 weeks weighing 6lb and 6lb7.

mythumbelinas · 24/02/2006 13:41

dd1 labour 8 hrs, thought to be 7lb of more, but was 15lb 13oz.
dd2 labour 3.5 hrs 6lb 10oz
natural births, no stitches, no stretch marks

my mother gave birth to 7 babies in 13 yrs, all natural births and virtually no stretchmarks, last was over 10lbs and she's only 5'2"!!

mythumbelinas · 24/02/2006 13:41

oops, meant dd1 was 5lb 13oz hahaha :S

milward · 24/02/2006 13:43

ds4 was big at 4.570kilos. Arrived very quick with no need for pain relief. Felt backache at 6.20am but stopped in shower. Decided to go to hospital. 3 huge contractions on the way. Waters broke gushing out just before we got to hospital car park! 2 more big contractions as I walked & ran!!!! to maternity unit. Midwife said she'd check how progressed labour was & just replied your babys here!! No pain just felt huge pressures. Gave birth were I stood!!! No problems after. I felt so relieved to have had a big baby quick & with no probs.

dd3 was 3.970 kilos 2 weeks early & only 1.5hrs in labour. No probs or pain relief needed.

dd2 - a cs for footling breech

dd1 - 7 hrs with epidural as I needed it for pain I felt in the back! This was very difficult but epidural great & delivery fine with no probs.

best wishes xxx

milward · 24/02/2006 13:44

mythumbalinas - lucky to have no stretchmarks! I have loads & loads!!!!

milward widwife did say i had great skin elasticity

Bugsy2 · 24/02/2006 13:56

both mine were 8lb 6oz. Had instrumental delivery for ds (first) but dd popped out very easily.
Good luck anchovies

geekgrrl · 24/02/2006 13:57

dd1 - 9lbs 7oz - induced but once it got started labour was quick and straightforward, no tear, just a minor graze
dd2 9lbs 4 oz - 1.5 hour labour, delivered all by myself, minor graze, no pain relief
ds - 10lbs - born at home (with a midwife) after a 3.5 hour labour with a bit of G&A, turned OP for the second stage but still delivered naturally and with a minor graze.

kate100 · 24/02/2006 16:25

DS1 - 9lb 11oz gas and air, no stitches
DS2 - 9lb 12 oz gas and air on stitches

Is this what you wanted to hear? It wasn't that bad either, ds1 needed a lot more effort than ds2, just gas and air and a lot of mooing, I'm with you on that one Spidermama

CaptainDippy · 24/02/2006 18:23

Heeeeeello!! More reassurance - SIL - short labour, epidural, no problems and no stitches - absolutely fine 9lb 14oz and one of my friends has had 2 completely natural homebirths in water - DS was 9lb 9oz, few stiches, no complications - DD was 10lb 6oz no complications, short labour, no stitches - Feeling better yet??

(Won't tell you about 8lb DD1, but 5lb DD2 was a breeze!!!! )

mcmudda · 24/02/2006 18:27

DD wasn't really big - only 8lb 7oz - but she was a VBAC (after emergency c) and I had SPD. Only one stitch. She was an ounce less than ds and he was 2 weeks early so it doesn't necessarily follow that no2 will be bigger - all the best

popsycalindisguise · 24/02/2006 18:31

ds2 was 8lb 11oz and born a day before he was due. Lightning fast labour and birth. No intervention, drugs, or gas and air (no time for anything!!). No tears. From start to finish the whole thing lasted almost an hour and a half

Good luck

CaptainDippy · 24/02/2006 18:31

OH MY GOSH!!!!!! Did anyone else notice cece's post about her 11lb 4oz baby that she delivered naturally!!!!!!?? I was that no one commented - YOU GO GIRL!!!!

bossykate · 24/02/2006 18:33

ds - 9lb 7oz - OP - assisted vaginal delivery (ventouse) with episiotomy.

dd - 10lb 8oz - hand up (!) - delivery at home in water, teeny tiny tear.

it can be done!
