Am almost 39 weeks and am booked for a cs at 40 weeks. Had ds by "emergency" cs following a failed induction at 41 weeks (I was a non-starter!) and he was 10lbs. They are reckoning on another big baby (but I haven't had a growth scan or anything so can't be sure.) Have got another 8 days to manage a vbac but am lurching between desperately hoping I go into labour and praying that I make it to 40 weeks and the section.

Would really appreciate a happy birth story of someone who popped out a big baby with ease! Or even better, someone who went overdue with their first, was a failed induction and gave birth by cs to a whopper and then followed it up by giving birth to a 6lber in 3 hours with no pain relief or stitches?!! Well a girl can dream!

ds1 - 10lb 1oz...
ds2 - 8lb 4oz...
dd - 8lb 10oz...

ds2 and dd were predicted to be large and weren't so there is hope!

alexsmum · 23/02/2006 20:44

well mine weren't 10lbers but i gave birth to ds2 in 6 hours with nothing but gas and air and he weighed 8lb 13. does that count?

anchovies · 23/02/2006 20:44

Just the sort of thing I was hoping for!

DD2 - in labour for 2.5 hours total, in hospital for 35 mins - 9lb 1oz with only gas and air

leggymamba · 23/02/2006 21:03

DS was induced slightly early - 10lb. Labour total 6 hours (20 mins pushing). Was easy peasy compared with very nasty experience with dd.

However - as someone said to me - the babyfairy is very fair - what she gives with one wave of her wand she takes with another. DD was a perfect baby, ds is very trying.

pebblemum · 23/02/2006 21:29

When DS1 was born, after a 22hr labour, he weighed 8lbs 5oz. It might not sound a lot compared to most on here but he was very long and had outgrown size 0-3month clothes by the time he was 1month old.
When I was pg with DS2 everyone kept saying how he was going to be bigger so I was dreading giving birth. I also seemed twice the size than I did with ds1. As it turned out DS2 weighed in at 7lbs 2oz (after 5.5hr labour!) and he was 8 days late!!

I know its easy for me to say but just try to relax and not worry about it too much, its too late anyway now its going to come one way or another. Plus you havent had confirmation that this will be a whopper so you may be woried for nothing. Enjoy the last few days of being pg.

alliebaba · 23/02/2006 21:35

ds was 8lb 6 and 10 days late, 12 hours labour, gas and air and pethidine..(shitty stuff)
dd 8Lb 15, labour 8hrs, too much gas and air but was fine.. had quite a laugh up until the last hour

JiminyCricket · 23/02/2006 21:35

my friend had baby (9 lbs + a lot) at home in birthing pool - I'm not saying it was easy but she only had gas and air

my boss had two that size as well - apparently they were OK because they were 'long heavy' not 'big head heavy' iyswim so pray for tall ones

elastamum · 23/02/2006 21:37

Mt first was 9lb 8oz, he was induced 2 weeks late.

2nd was 10lb 4oz. also late and induced. Shoved him out after about 4 hours. His head was (and still is enourmous!) but 2nd labour still much easier than 1st

Milliways · 23/02/2006 21:42

NAsty induction with first (only 6lb 2oz) but overdue with DS, who flew out at 9lb 6oz with only 1 push

joanna4 · 23/02/2006 21:45

My son weighed 9lbs3.5oz when he put in an appearance after 36 hours(induction -finish).I had gas air and eventually an epidural.Daughter was abit smaller at 8lbs 12oz gas and air only. When matt was born he was the longest baby on the ward and heavier than twins combined on the end bed.All the medical students came to see him as he was big.The lady in next bed had big babygro's was told to expect a biggie and ended up swapping clothes with me as her baby was 7 and a bit pounds.I was told bex would be 10 pounds plus but as you can see she was smaller of the 2.

spidermama · 23/02/2006 21:47

I've had four varying from 8lbs to 10 lbs naturally with no pain relief. I wouldn't exactly say they popped out with ease, but there were no complications and the ten pounder came in five hours (and that was with me conciously slowing things down to allow the mws to arrive.)

Take it as it comes. One contraction at a time. Try not to dread or fear it. Keep active. Walk uphills.

Good luck. x

Blondeinlondon · 23/02/2006 21:52

My bro was 10lb +. DM delivered him without any drugs, apparently there was some chanting song and she is small only 5 ft tall

Good luck

spidermama · 23/02/2006 21:54

Chanting works very well for me. I don't know if they let you do it in hospital though. Actually, mine was more a cross between mooing and braying.

cece · 23/02/2006 21:54

ds was 11 lb and 4 oz. 6 and three quarter hours and managed to push him out just before they got the ventouse out .

had gas and air and pethidine... great combo

joanna4 · 23/02/2006 22:00

Lol mooing and braying - remember it well plus having no voice left day after!

ambercat · 23/02/2006 22:15

ds2 10lb 4oz, 6 hour labour just gas and air, felt like he turned me inside out mind!!

PrincessPeaHead · 23/02/2006 22:20

just had 9lbs 4 in a birthing pool - short active labour, very short pushing, three contractions and out (but she was my 4th!), no gas and air no nothing.
was completely fine but I do have small headed babies (peaheads, in fact)

jampots · 23/02/2006 22:22

dd was a biggish baby but an em c/s. Consultant said that ds was going to be big too but weighed in at a disappointing 8lb 12 at 37 weeks (elective) - disappointing for the fact that my stretch marks say he should have been at least 12 lbs!

notasheep · 23/02/2006 22:26

ds 9lb 10oz-pethidine,masses of gas and air and repeated for labour OH MY BACK! over and over again.

And afterbirth shouted YES NO STITCHES!
Midwife was fantastic, her hands really supported his head.

pupuce · 23/02/2006 22:30

I can tell you of a woman (I was her doula) who had a
9lbs 2oz (I seem to remember) at 38 weeks and ended in section (she was told baby would be big - told over 10lbs and she wasn't!)
Next baby she had a VBAC at 41 weeks of a 8lbs2oz
Labour was 6 hours,
I was at both births.

alliebaba · 23/02/2006 22:30

hi nota. how are things? alliep30 has changed!

QE2 · 23/02/2006 22:35

My 1st - 7lb 5oz - easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

2nd - 9lb 14oz - big bugger, 24in long, hurt like hell, midwives were in shock/awe that he popped out without the need to c-section me.

3rd - 8lb 4oz - phew, what a relief!

4th - 9lb 4oz - not too bad, tore badly tho but good stitch job.

5th - induced 2 wks early as predicted he would be 11lb at 40 wks which frit me half to death - as it was he was 9lb 1oz so very relieved to have him so he didn't get any bigger!

Who knows how big the 6th will be?
