Just wondering what the first thing all you ladies said (or yelled) after giving birth.
My dp has constantly made fun of me since our ds was born in november, as I literally hollered 'it's over!!!!!' ...loud enough for unoccupied midwives at the station to dash in and congratulate us.
Nothing like the teary..'oh my gosh he's beautiful' i expected.
Little did i know it was far from over as i then had retained placenta and had to go into theatre and get a spinal block to have it removed..but thats another story....

'Hello. I'm your mummy.'
and
'Can I see the placenta?'

FoghornLeghorn · 25/07/2006 14:11

Is she OK, Is she OK, Is she OK ..... over and over again as she wasn't breathing and had to have oxygen
After that I don't think I really said alot, just stared at her for ages

Han4Dan · 25/07/2006 14:12

dd1 i said she's beautiful.

ds2 i said 'is he dead' because he didn't cry and i had him in the bath.

eldestgirl · 25/07/2006 14:12

DS1: "I can't believe that is my baby"
DS2: "Hello sweetheart. Oh my God you look just like your brother!"

ME: "I can hear a baby"

ExP & anethesatist: Yes, he's your baby

Me:"oh, ok"

I also shouted a very loud "F*ckin Hell, I'm falling", as I was transfered over to the operating table from the bed - I had a epidural in and couldn't feel that my legs had stopped moving, I thought I was falling of the other side of the operating table. Not the way forward in your own place of work!

clumsymum · 25/07/2006 14:40

I said "Mummy it hurts"

I had ds by ceasarian under general anaesthetic, and this was the first thing I said after dh and my mum came into the room. I wasn't really concsious at the time.

dizzybint · 25/07/2006 18:58

'oh thank god!' dh still retells the tale of how i didn't even look at dd, i just shut my eyes like i was relieved and ready for a big sleep. midwife said 'can you see what you've got?' and i replied, looking at dd by now, 'yes it's matilda' and i shut my eyes again.

ilovecaboose · 25/07/2006 19:03

After ds I said three things b4 I started collapsing (difficult birth)

  1. what is it?
  2. Move the baby I'm gonna be sick - seriously I mean it move the baby
  3. I don't feel very well.

I was then basically unconscious for most of the next 12 hours (except for a brief feed when I was a bit more stable).

quootiepie · 25/07/2006 19:12

I was too shocked to say anything... I really didnt know what to say. I must have seemed so ungrateful!

sunchowder · 25/07/2006 19:13

"I didn't shit on the floor Andy!"

bubblez · 25/07/2006 19:16

pmsl at some of these..

Mine was "MY BABY, MY BABY" mainly because they took her straight from me.

It's funny because two mins before that I'd been screaming "GET IT OUT OF ME"... funny how your feelings change so fast.

bubblez · 25/07/2006 19:19

Oh no that sounds like they never gave her back to me.... but they did they just took her to wash and weigh her before i even got to see her.

SherlockLGJ · 25/07/2006 19:20

DS1.........and.......only

Hello darling.................

DH.> He has my nose. (DH has a huge nose)

LGJ....Poor little bugger.

SherlockLGJ · 25/07/2006 19:21

Oh and that was after a 16 hour labour, and ECS.

So I was quite surprised I had managed to retain my sense of humour.

Scoobydooooo · 25/07/2006 19:25

Ds- I cried & said oh my god hes gorgeous

Dd - I cried again & said "shes beautiful but thank god thats over"

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 25/07/2006 19:33

With DS1 it was "told you so" (I'd said all along that I thought he was a boy, but DH just kept saying "lets wait and see" - having had a CS (classed as EM, but not exactly rushed......waited until they could slot me in on the day they decided to give me one LOL) I hadn't had any labour and was just wanting to know it I was right .

DS2 - can't remember - think it was something similar, as I'd suspected strongly that he was also a boy.

ComeOVeneer · 25/07/2006 19:39

After a 72hr labour ,epidural, ventouse, episiotomy I said (heaven knows whay I said). 2nd time round au naturel (sp?) I said "OMG" (when they showed me a 10lb boy. (was convinced it would be a girl as I had (a) already had a girl and (b) couldn't imagine producing a baby that wasn't a girl.)

Greensleeves · 25/07/2006 19:41

ds1 "Oh, he's dead, oh god" (he wasn't, but he looked it)

ds2 "Hello sweetheart!"

PinkTulips · 25/07/2006 22:16

didn't say anything, just grabbed her lifeless body up and held her for a few seconds until the mw took her to resusitate her. once she was breathing and moving though i turned to dp and said 'i knew it'd be a girl!'

doobydoo · 25/07/2006 22:24

'I don't feel very well'..before my heart rate went whoosh downhill!

fairyfly · 25/07/2006 22:25

Is it too late for an abortion

fuzzywuzzy · 25/07/2006 22:28

ff what did they say???

Piccalilli · 25/07/2006 22:29

SherlockLGJ - Me and dh said EXACTLY the same, except ours is a girl.

I then said 'is she OK?' (she was being checked, I'd had episiotomy so couldn't sit up) dh said 'she's gorgeous' I screamed 'YES BUT IS SHE OK YOU IDIOT!!'

psychomum5 · 25/07/2006 22:54

DD1 - "ooh....it is a girl", then "give her BACK" as they whipped her away cos I was hemorraging(sp??)....!!

DD2 - (was born blue and unresponsive due to cord wrapped tightly round neck)...."bring her back", then yelled at DH "they're stealing our baby....go get her back!!"

DD3 - "oh god, another girl....I am so sorry" to which he replied "but she is screaming and healthy and gorgeous, I don't care, I love you".

DS1 - " I CAN make boys....its a boy....look, a real willy" (cue much laughter, and tears)

DS2 - "I said no more boys.....ordered a girl this time!!", and then...."oh, he's gorgeous, I'm sorry, mummy loves you really", and then...."I can't see" as I passed out
( I had retained placenta which they still missed even tho I was clearly ill. My placenta sheared in half, and no one checked the student MW after she checked it!!)[still fuming about that emoticon]!!
