Just wondering what the first thing all you ladies said (or yelled) after giving birth.
My dp has constantly made fun of me since our ds was born in november, as I literally hollered 'it's over!!!!!' ...loud enough for unoccupied midwives at the station to dash in and congratulate us.
Nothing like the teary..'oh my gosh he's beautiful' i expected.
Little did i know it was far from over as i then had retained placenta and had to go into theatre and get a spinal block to have it removed..but thats another story....

DS1 (born after use of ventouse and forceps):

"F* me, he's a conehead!" (To my eternal shame. Within a few mins he had the most beautifully shaped head you could imagine)

DS2 (born after much evacuating of bowels on delivery table):

"I hope that's the baby and not another poo!"

The second thing I said to both of them was along the lines of "hello baby, I love you, I'm mumy, here's daddy" etc. I also apologised to the mw for swearing.

going4potty · 01/02/2006 22:29

crying weve got a baby ! Like it was a surprise!

dawneloise · 01/02/2006 23:39

It was bin day and all i could think to say was call Shirley our neighbour and ask her to put the bin out!

tinksmum · 02/02/2006 08:58

convinced i was having a boy, when told i had a girl i was over the moon , but the first thing i said was" oh no pay back" and she is great!!!!!!!

Lulu41 · 02/02/2006 09:21

Ds "hello darling"

Dd "its a girl its a girl and then hello darling" so weird how you go from screaming banshee to the "hello darling" in such a short space of time - fantastic - just glad I will never have to do it again though

Angeliz · 02/02/2006 09:25

dd1, "is it alright?" they whisked her off to clear airways as there was meconium, then "what is it?"(sex)

dd2," just kept saying "oh baby oh baby" was a bit dazed as she came really fast .

After giving birth to twin boys without (requested) drugs in under 3 hours, my response to the consultant's "right, well I've missed the whole Arsenal - Manchester United game now", was 'Make him go away'.

racheous · 02/02/2006 10:59

after my 1st daughter, i said " hello baby, can i have a hot chocolate", after my second daughter i said " hello tegan" it was a choice of tegan or thaila and she just looked like a tegan, and after my first boy i said "it is a boy isnt it?" i wanted a boy so badly after having 2 girls then had a rather bad c-section which led me to being ill for 6 wks afterwards. i dont remember what he even looked like although they did show me him, i was soo ill and high on drugs also most of my blood was lost (i have to laugh now)

babyonboard · 02/02/2006 11:41

asking the neighbour to put the bin out..lmao

I have no idea

SarahAndMegan · 02/02/2006 11:49

What is it? then did I do a poo? to the embarrassment of my DH Ha Ha!!! (I hadn't!!)

3catstoo · 02/02/2006 12:37

After DS, "somebody hold the baby, i'm going to be sick", The lovely side effects of 9 hours on Gas & Air!

After DD1 "Where is my bloody husband". Who entered the room 5 mins later to see the placenta being delivered. After being told by the midwife that I was in labour but it would be a while he decided to have breakfast and a shower and slowly make his way to the hospital. I guess they were all surprised when it took only 90 mins afterall.

After DD2 "Can we go home now".

Will hopefully be able to add a 4th comment once I've persuaded DH to have one that is!!

RudiRedNose · 02/02/2006 13:24

Can't remember saying anything but I remember the midwife holding her up all blue with big streaks of blood and thinking she looked like a skinned rabbit.....
Then she was whipped off to the resuscitair and people just kept coming in to the delivery room and surrounded her. Everything was so quiet. DH just stood by my side as we watched in silence and tried to listen to the quiet conversation that was going on at the foot of the bed. A few minutes later we heard her first cry and she was brought over and put on my chest. I just remember seeing those huge blue eyes looking up at me.........I didn't know what to say!

Lacrimosa · 02/02/2006 13:25

look at the size of his ears!(it was the gas and air talking ok!?

Kirk1 · 02/02/2006 13:27

To dd, hello Maria. I'm not sure if I said it out loud or not. and to dh 'oh Howard, she's perfect!'

to ds, I can't remember exactly, but probably along the same lines 'hello Sam' then to dh, 'I could murder a cuppa'

I never saw either of my placentas, but after dd dh couldn't pass the meat counter in Tesco without pointing at the livers and making a comment about placentas.......

Babydaze · 02/02/2006 13:48

With DS1 it was "I've got a SON! I've got a SON!" I kept saying that over & over again.I loved the sound of it.

What a great thread, I've spent the last half hour jumping between laughing my head off and crying my eyes out!!

ds1 - Are you sure? When the midwife told me it wads a boy. I knew I was having a girl.

ds2 - Hello Baby

dd - Is she ok? Hello beautiful, I've been waiting 2o years for you!!

jellyjelly · 02/02/2006 16:26

'Is he ok' to the blankness above my head as they whisked him off as he was corded and not breathing.

When i saw him i said' look at you'

I dont really remember alot but remember thinking he looked a bit chinese and asian and blue and so veery very chubby. I have red hair and blue eyes.

iris66 · 02/02/2006 20:45

I thought it was "hello my baby" but DH confirms it was "gnuuuurgh...where is it" closely followed by "ooh that's a placenta's small isn't it!" (like I'd seen loads to be able to compare!!)

sansouci · 02/02/2006 20:46

What happened was that I'd been induced & it hadn't worked, so I was then put on an oxytocin drip. I was in labour for 12 hours & dd wasn't budging. Obstet said, "she'll be born before midnight" & I was thrilled that it was going to be over, finally. So tired! Little did I know that the worst was yet to come... they couldn't stitch my uterus up because it was flacid from all the oxytocin & I was vomiting from the epidural. So I lost 1/3 of my blood. I remember hearing someone say "put her out, ffs!" but they didn't.

Emmecanary · 02/02/2006 22:06

Ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod Its a Mekon baby. (DS born with cone-shaped head - reverted to normal shape v soon).

Coolmama · 03/02/2006 19:21

"Oh my God!! - He's got a snotty nose" - and then as I watched the pediatrician take him away for Agpar scores - "look at his huge feet"!!!

staceym11 · 03/02/2006 19:42

i said 'oh my god shes purple and green!'

and tried to convincethe midwife i didnt mean it when i said she could keep the baby if she took the pain away!!!!

Ailsa · 04/02/2006 00:03

dd1 - Can I have a slice of toast?
ds - didn't say anything - watched him being resusitated (sp?)
dd2 - said nothing, just cried.
