I had my ds a week ago, vaginal birth all fine. Got straight on the lactulose and did a poo on day 5 easy!

Now day 7 and I can't go - have just spent an hour crying in the bathroom as there is a turd the size of a house brick up there. I had a look with a mirror - its there, it's as big as my baby and it won't come out.

Seriously wtf do I do apart from cry in a darkened room?! I have already taken the max dose of lactulose today so not sure I can take any more? Drinking lots, eating lots of fibre. Argh.

Help me please!

Ooooh Methe- Well, that's something to look forward to if I ever live to be old and bunged up... :o
18 inches! Did you send a photo to the local paper?

noyouhavehadawee · 10/02/2012 17:42

ouch joking aside it doesnt sound nice - what exactly is that then? really hope you get back to normal soon even if you did brighten up last night for me Smile

mamarara · 10/02/2012 17:52

Yeah it was vaguely amusing right up to the point the mw mentioned 'obstetric fistula' and 'possible need for corrective surgery'. Now I've had a bit of a sense of humour failure. Although I do feel better now I've done a poo! Just terrified of the next one.

But thanks for all your responses - its been nice to know I am not the only person who has suffered mega poo phobia. Maybe there should be some kind of mumsnet campaign to raise awareness of poo terror? (not really)

Oh dear, you poor thing mamarama. What is the midwife going to do about it.... Will she refer you to a gynaecologist?

I'm just so shocked this is the outcome..... We've all been flippant because so many of us have experienced impaction after giving birth and as unpleasant as it was it wasn't serious.

I'm really sorry your midwife thinks it may be something more serious and I really hope it isn't.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 10/02/2012 18:36

Sorry for joshing you earlier. Did she give you a plan of action or referral?

Somersaults · 10/02/2012 19:03

mamarara I found this thread very useful for all the TMI poo terror stuff!

berniew · 10/02/2012 19:38

Pour some boiling water down the toilet and let the steam rise on to your bum and push like hell. Haven't checked if anyone else has suggested this, but thought i'd add my tuppence as have been there- it's awful! Also try wiggling your pelvis from side to side while pushing.
The things you share.....

berniew · 10/02/2012 19:40

Oops- sorry clearly too late!
Hope everything is ok OP.

Hot bath and hot cup of tea will hopefully get things moving. Also elevating legs helps too! Congratulations btw.

LackaDAISYcal · 10/02/2012 20:18

I work as a home care assistant and obe of my old dears has a problem with constipation (or poo getting stuck which seems to be your current problem). As she has to be hoisted on and off the toilet, the only thing that gets it moving is a bit of perineal massage combined with putting her feet on a footstool so her knees are above her hips (non stop glamour, my job Wink). Perineal massage might be difficult if you have stitches though
Exercise is good too. Walking fast always gets my innards working!
Another thought...do you have piles as a result of the pregnancy/birth? as a big one can make pooing difficult.

mamarara · 10/02/2012 20:42

It's fine honestly - I'd have found it funny too.

Yep am being referred - I thought I was done with strangers looking up my fanjo but now they get to look at my bumhole as well!

Thanks for the new poo tips - this information should be provided on some kind of postnatal leaflet along with all the other gumpf in hospital. To help all the poor unsuspecting women who think childbirth was the hard bit :)

It's the fourth stage of labour Grin

BeeMyBaby · 11/02/2012 06:59

just want to say that this thread gave me the courage to make a drs appointment - I'll be seeing one on Monday after weeks of avoidance and discomfort, so thanks.

mamarara · 11/02/2012 10:05

Ha fhak I think you are right!

Bee - well done on booking dr! Together we'll conquer our embarrassing undercarriage problems.

Feeling a bit better today due to high dose of painkillers. And the lactulose has finally stopped my poop being utterly terrifying. Which is a massive relief.

Thanks for the link to that other thread as well. It has been somewhat depressing but very informative to read.

Yes I know exactly what you mean about the other thread. There are some extremely supportive MNers on there though who were lovely and very helpful.

Spatone · 11/02/2012 12:37

Some good advice on here. I'd go with the glycerine suppositories and the supporting your perineum with a pad of paper. Use the pad of paper to push said poo back in the right direction if necessary.

openerofjars · 13/02/2012 10:10

Mama, glad to hear you are seeing the doc and feeling a bit better. You poor thing.

It is true that no one ever talks about the poo, apart from saying that you might be a bit constipated.

Good luck and keep taking the drugs (and lactulose).

Jacksmania · 13/02/2012 12:41

Mama, I sincerely hope you don't have a fistula, but if you do, and you need further advice or a place to vent where there is no TMI ever [slightly bitter Grin] come visit us on the Ragged Bits thread.

Its mega-long but you don't need to read all of it (in fact I recommend you don't, it's pretty grim on occasion) but there's always someone on there who has an answer or a hand if you need to hold one.

AdiVic · 13/02/2012 13:15

OMG!!!! Is mamarama still alive?? I think pregnancy/childbirth was created by a very angry bitter man! Why is it all so undignified and painful. Hope you are ok

pookamoo · 13/02/2012 13:38

I just wanted to add, that for anyone else in a similar situation, it really helps if you can get someone else to take the baby out for a walk or something so you can get yourself sorted out without having to hear the baby wailing for its next feed!
Rocking and crying while on the loo with DH outside the door saying "I think she's hungry..." does not help the stress levels!

mumsrthebest · 13/02/2012 23:44

Eat loads of kiwi's that are full of vitamin c. You might need to get some gloves on and manually get some of it out (sorry TMI).

ChristmasDonkey · 14/02/2012 07:44

Sounds horrid. Deffo go and see dr

mamarara · 14/02/2012 10:27

Thanks jacks mama - I have been reading the thread, it's really helpful.
