I had my ds a week ago, vaginal birth all fine. Got straight on the lactulose and did a poo on day 5 easy!

Now day 7 and I can't go - have just spent an hour crying in the bathroom as there is a turd the size of a house brick up there. I had a look with a mirror - its there, it's as big as my baby and it won't come out.

Seriously wtf do I do apart from cry in a darkened room?! I have already taken the max dose of lactulose today so not sure I can take any more? Drinking lots, eating lots of fibre. Argh.

Help me please!

PPS - (I'm not a poo troll I promise) - wouldn't Movicol be better than lactulose? They use it for faecal impaction....

MalibuStacy · 09/02/2012 14:32

I second red wine. It always gets things moving for me, no matter how constipated I am.

MalibuStacy · 09/02/2012 14:32

... Oh, and drink it, don't squirt it up your bum Grin

spartafc · 09/02/2012 14:33

I had a similar experience, was sat rocking and shaking on the downstairs loo while DH bathed our days old DS upstairs. I honestly thought I was going to have to ask him to ring an ambulance (or fetch a rope Grin) it was hideous. Definitely took longer to get that out than DS (not kidding either). Eventually it will come out, just relax, relax and relax. A cup of hot water might help.
Oh, and put a footstool or anything you can get your feet up on to when you're on the loo. It puts you in a good position for getting things moving.
God be with you Grin

A few weeks ago someone on here suggestedpushing the poo out by erm...pushing from inside your front bottom.

Not sure if this is very feasible so soon after having a baby, but there were quite a few going "oh yes, I do that!"

Impatientwino · 09/02/2012 14:33

posted too quick, damn thing

meant to say kiwi fruit always work for me! BUT I think it may be too late for that!

Hope you get some relief soon love.

Iggly · 09/02/2012 14:38

Poo in warm water. Fill a bucket, insert butt and go hell for leather.

I remember my first one post DS however after DD I was on antibiotics which was great as it made everything very soft.

cerys74 · 09/02/2012 14:41

How about curry? Generally does the job for me. You have my sympathy btw, constipation+sore post-labour lady area = not fun at all.... I was scared I was going to tear my stitches!! I agree that pressing a pad to your front bits may make you feel better. Also rocking on the loo seat and pulling your legs up a bit so you're a bit nearer to a squatting position might help.

Good luck...

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2012 14:45

Glycerin Suppositories.

worriedsilly · 09/02/2012 14:45

Huge blob of vaseline -big now - on your sphincter and a little inside too.

Works for my kids [always bunged up]

Good luck!

And then medicate medicate medicate. Don't be like this again in a week!!

mamarara · 09/02/2012 15:03

Hello wino! Congratulations lady that is brilliant news! Chuffed to bits for you xx

Maybe my pelvic floor is just broken? I can't seem to control my wee either at the moment though the mw said that would sort itself out in a few days.

Poo wise no amount of pushing or birth breathing will make it come out. Honestly I've just tried for like an hour. It's there but won't crown iyswim.

Ive given up for the moment but it's really uncomfy. My baby was 13 days late and now I've got an overdue poo stuck up my bum! Wtaf.

While sitting on the loo massage the lower part of your tummy in a clockwise direction. Also daft as it seems use your thumbs (one at a time) to massage the area between your thumb and first finger for 30 - 60 seconds. For the benefit of other people reading this - DO NOT DO THIS WHEN PREGNANT.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 09/02/2012 16:52

But have you weighed yourself yet?

BuntyCollocks · 09/02/2012 17:02

Support your perineum won't mention I still have to do this a year on, despite ultimately having a c-section and, dulcolax? Will hurt like a fucker, but will get the bastard out. Hopefully. But dulcolax is VERY last resort as it will be so bad. How about lots of fresh orange? Got me moving and regular when I was pregnant and always constipated.

QuickLookBusy · 09/02/2012 17:05

I know you feel uncomfortable but sitting on the loo for hours pushing will make your piles much worse.

Could you get some Senokot? It won't bring immediate relief but if you take it tonight you will definitely go by the morning.

I take it occasionally and it really does the trick.

Also get some cream for the piles Smile

liveinazoo · 09/02/2012 17:07

pop a couple telephone books next lav so your feet are higher and in more of a squatting position

pineapple is good for getting things moving.if yiure having problems with piles too it may be worth having aword with nurse at doctors for advice?

(good luck0

oh and congratulations on the new addition

bonzo77 · 09/02/2012 17:07

get a box of movicol sachets and follow the instructions for "faecal impaction" then take 3 a day for a few days and gradually taper off. You can get it on prescription. is great stuff, tastes a bit funny but no pain like other laxatives.

Eclairwaldorf · 09/02/2012 17:08

Try movicol. Worked for me after abdominal surgery when lactulose didn't.

haddock1976 · 09/02/2012 17:08

Ducolax + water worked for me after stitches made me too terrified to push fir days. MW said ducolax fine as it's gentle but effective.

Methe · 09/02/2012 17:10

Push back on your fanny where you can feel the poo bulge that might help... You have to kind of push the poo backwards. Apparently Blush

JuliaScurr · 09/02/2012 17:17

Enema? They work. Oh, yes. They work. Quite surprisingly fast. Grin you can get little squeezy tubes from chemist.

toddlerama · 09/02/2012 17:26

Glycerin suppositories. Seriously.

bellatmum · 09/02/2012 17:27

I would second regular kiwi fruit to stop it happening again - 1 kiwi in the evening - hey preston next morning! (apparently the skin if you can bear to eat it helps a lot too).
have also tried finger up fanny and sort of pressing backwards which can help if its really stuck
call your GP/midwife and ask their advice??

bellatmum · 09/02/2012 17:29

hey presto

Methe · 09/02/2012 18:01

Grin @ hey Preston!
