I had my ds a week ago, vaginal birth all fine. Got straight on the lactulose and did a poo on day 5 easy!

Now day 7 and I can't go - have just spent an hour crying in the bathroom as there is a turd the size of a house brick up there. I had a look with a mirror - its there, it's as big as my baby and it won't come out.

Seriously wtf do I do apart from cry in a darkened room?! I have already taken the max dose of lactulose today so not sure I can take any more? Drinking lots, eating lots of fibre. Argh.

Help me please!

Do you have a rectocele? It's a weekness of the wall between the vagina and the rectum. You get a bulge into the vagina. You can get the same in front from the bladder too.
the things you learn on Mumsnet!

BrassMonkeyBaubles · 09/02/2012 22:17

Mamarara it sounds as if it could be a prolapse of sorts...and pushing it back in would be the correct thing to do. Do go and see your gp for reassurance tomorrow. Also consider taking the lactulose (not huge doses now you are over the worst!) to keep you regular if you're on painkillers (which can constipated you) or iron tablets. Drink plenty of fluids with the lactulose as it needs this to work. The lactulose is a kind of sugar that soaks into the pooh and draws liquid into it, helping shift it along the digestive system to be expelled gently.

Notalone · 09/02/2012 22:20

Plleeaaaasssee Fannyfifer. I shared and now it is your turn. It will be a bit like therapy for you Grin

Am glad it is out Mamarara - I really hope it is not a prolapse that you have. Are you going to try to get a GP appointment tomorrow?

Dalrymps · 09/02/2012 22:25

Well done, so pleased you managed.

I agree see the dr about the possible prolapse. I've heard about it on Mn, quite common I think.

I would keep taking the lactulose, at least 15ml morning and night and drink plenty. If you can stomach it, one or two small-medium glasses of prune juice a day is good too. Pears, kiwis and oranges also good.

McQueasy · 09/02/2012 22:27

attention
Right, for starters lactulose is not helpful just now and could make things worse. You have faecal impaction and a very weak pelvic floor.
You need movicol sachets for the constipation and an internal exam to check for vaginal prolapse.
To the GP for u first thing tomorrow

BrassMonkeyBaubles · 09/02/2012 22:28

Saggyoldclothcatbagpuss I had never heard of a "rectocele" before, having just googled it I have now the answer to a problem that's been plagueing me on and off for 19 years...and has without doubt been the cause of "unexplained" bleeding in my last three pregancies!!! (aggravated by constipation which was severe at these times!). Why did my drs never consider this a possibility? No doubt the result of a forceps delivery with child 1!

ShineYourButtonsWithBrasso · 09/02/2012 22:31

Ouch, glad your free but do see your gp.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 09/02/2012 22:39

I really feel for you OP, I've been wincing all the way through this thread, but... thank you. You've just made me feel better about my EMCS! I couldn't laugh for a week or drive for six weeks and I still can't wear jeans, but, hell, at least I could poo Grin

I hope your GP or midwife can help.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 09/02/2012 22:48

Brass, I heard about it here! I'm pretty sure I have both, but it's REALLY embarrassing to have to go to the GP and explain! Blush
I've got to have a pelvic exam next week and I'm hoping the doctor will spot it!

ReneeVivien · 09/02/2012 22:49

This thread has certainly been an education. I feel faint with shock...

mamarara · 09/02/2012 22:49

Glad this thread has helped brass!

Going to the mw tomorrow anyway. Will lay off the lactulose for now following McQueasy's advice.

Very very glad that poo is out. That is up there with most traumatic moments (and yes I do feel extremely lucky that my privileged western life means a difficult poo is counted as a trauma!). But it has merely highlighted the overall brokenness of the undercarriage and the wreckage formally known as rara's fanjo. Sad face.

Did you get a weight for the poo?

noyouhavehadawee · 10/02/2012 08:00

was it a boy or a girl and did you name it?

BeeMyBaby · 10/02/2012 08:26

I had the same kinda thing just under two weeks after having DD2, and it resulted in a prolapse and she is now 10 weeks and I still haven't seen a dr - tried to talk about it at my 6 week check but the dr just said as I didn't have stitches and am young that there wouldn't be a problem... but there is and I'm too embarrassed to go back. I wish I'd have known to stock up on glycerin suppositories before DD2 was born :(

Nursee007 · 10/02/2012 10:41

I also have terrible piles and due in 2 weeks....I know its minging, but best advice is vaseline, glycerine suppositories, a glove and to just get on and do it! if you carry on struggling, ask your dr for something called Movicol...its works differently to lactulose, tastes better and is much gentler....its been a godsend for me, 1 sachet a day and I go every day....soft and easy to pass.
Regarding getting the really hard huge bit out, unless you've had a tear, then there is no reason not to attempt manual help yourself. You could even try squatting in warm water if you can bear it.....lots and lots of vaseline and glycerine suppositories. I'm a paeds nurse and have advised lots of mummies and kids the same thing :)

FaithHopeAndKevin · 10/02/2012 11:10

So I was out on the timing, but was I close with the weight?

bellatmum · 10/02/2012 11:51

bee I had a bit of a worry that I had some sort of prolapse issue some time after having DD2. I just made a normal doc appt, and said I was worried.
She had a good look (speculum, finger checking etc) all rather embarressing...
but she said all fine.
Worth it to be able to stop worrying about it IME

RillaBlythe · 10/02/2012 13:41

Sorry mamarara, I know it's been horrible for you, but it's been hilarious to read (while clenching). Have to confess my bum has never been the same again post birth x2...

mamarara · 10/02/2012 14:03

So the poo trauma continues. I've cried at a mw this morning, she's had a look up at the brokenness and reckons I have an obstetric fistula. Brilliant that sounds like so much fun.

Oh and she gave me some glycerin suppositories and told me to stay on the lactulose. So top tip other poo sufferers - get a trained medical person to look at it in case it's more broken than just the giant poo.

OP posts:
bagelmonkey · 10/02/2012 14:43

That doesn't sound good.
You never did tell us the weight & if it was a boy or a girl poo, or what you're calling it, though. Grin

mamarara · 10/02/2012 14:54

Well someone named it Preston in a pp. didn't get a weight, at a rough guess i'd say a good 5lb.

OP posts:
BelleEnd · 10/02/2012 15:09

Congratulations on the birth of Preston! This is better than any labour or POAS thread. Should be in classics IMO. :o
BTW, I nearly boaked at the finger up the fanny to push the inner bumwall.

Methe · 10/02/2012 15:32

5lb! That's more than my daughter weighed when she was born Grin

I have seen some absolutely breathtakingly gigantic poos at work, like 18 inches long and as thick as an arm. Poo is fascinating!

BelleEnd · 10/02/2012 17:31

Is it just me that wants to know what Methe does for a living, what will all this coming into contact with humongous turdage? 18 bloody inches? Jesus. My money is on cleaner in a pie-eating competition-hosting arena...

Methe · 10/02/2012 17:34

I look after very lovely, very old, very constipated people Grin
