I had my ds a week ago, vaginal birth all fine. Got straight on the lactulose and did a poo on day 5 easy!

Now day 7 and I can't go - have just spent an hour crying in the bathroom as there is a turd the size of a house brick up there. I had a look with a mirror - its there, it's as big as my baby and it won't come out.

Seriously wtf do I do apart from cry in a darkened room?! I have already taken the max dose of lactulose today so not sure I can take any more? Drinking lots, eating lots of fibre. Argh.

Help me please!

Have you tried going in the bath?

Fogie · 09/02/2012 18:18

Glycerin suppositories the only way to go unless you can work it out with the end of a teaspoon

ZhenThereWereTwo · 09/02/2012 18:23

Glycerin suppositories, vaseline smeared around entrance for smooth delivery, feet up on stool/box. Remember to breathe for the head Grin This works for me and being 9 months pregnant I am suffering too. Also I find eating lots of raw spinach helps keep things more regular.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 09/02/2012 18:37

Coffee.
Good luck!

morethemerrier · 09/02/2012 20:17

Have you had it yet mamarama? Grin

This is (almost) as exciting as a live labour thread! Shall we start a sweepstake, time and weight?

Sorry mamarama not much help, hope you get relief soon. x

toucancancan · 09/02/2012 20:22

Run a warm bath, squat down so your bum is in the water and poo. The heat of the water seems to relax your muscles, making it easier and less sore to poo. Definately works, speaking from experience!

Good luck.

mamarara · 09/02/2012 20:24

No! It won't come out. I feel strangely claustrophobic and quite stressed!
God this is definitely worse than childbirth - that only took a couple of hours and I was given G&A.

Please, please try the warm bath. It was the only way I could poo for a while after DS 1 and 2.

QuickLookBusy · 09/02/2012 20:28

mamarara is there anyone who could go out and get you some senokot?

It really is very gentle, you take 2 just before you go to sleep and in the morning you will go to the loo. It does not give you diarrhea, just lets you go to the loo normally.

sheeplikessleep · 09/02/2012 20:31

Are you 'allowed' suppositories a few days after birth?

I did them once. 15 minutes and it all exploded out (I was on the loo at the time). The relief. Very quick, but very effective. I just don't know if it is wise to use those so soon after birth.

Hope you get sorted soon, it's horrible (I was going to say 'it's shit', but not sure if you're feeling in the mood for that). Hope it clears soon.

openerofjars · 09/02/2012 20:31

Hey dude, just found your thread! Congratulations on your lovely boy (but ooh, dear re the turd). I have no helpful advice at all, apart from general anaesthetic, but have come to cheer you on from the sidelines. I had this after my laparoscopy. It made me cry and wish the bathroom walls were thicker so next door couldn't hear all the sobbing .

If you get that poo out, you can have this lovely gin...

Go mama!

SparkySparrow · 09/02/2012 20:34

Is that wrong? Grin

Pears, prunes and a big bowl of porridge!
Although the warm bath sounds like a good idea!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 09/02/2012 20:35

Try pushing it back inside - had this once, nothing to do with childbirth felt like a tennis ball stuck inside, couldn't leave the bathroom but nothi g would go anywhere iyswim.
Pushing inwards seemed to trigger the peristalsis and hey presto. can't believe I just posted that.

MissyNatalie · 09/02/2012 20:35

mmm movical is amazing (i have a lot of constipation)

charitygirl · 09/02/2012 20:38

You really need the glycerin suppositories - I had this after DS2.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 09/02/2012 20:39

I think 6lb, at 8.30am tomorrow.

And also that the poo troll will explode in the first two minutes of reading this.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 09/02/2012 20:40

Shotgun that's exactly what you do when you've squeezed too much out of a tube of toothpaste Grin

Reading this thread with sympathetic fascination. I am prone to constipation anyway and am now on tablets that make it even worse, combined with spectacular wind. It's enough to make my eyes water... Sad

sheeplikessleep · 09/02/2012 20:40

I agree with charitygirl. Whatever you put on top (food / drink wise) won't make any difference when you get to a certain point.

You need suppositories to attack from the offending end!

Hassled · 09/02/2012 20:43

Having seen the man in action this morning for the first time, I want Matthew Wright to read this. I dare him to bring it up on the Wright Stuff. I want him to sit there tomorrow talking about how to get a poo out post birth.

Somersaults · 09/02/2012 20:43

To help ease any pain try pooing leaning really far forwards with your hands on the floor. This helps it to hurt less as it exerts less pressure apparently. It does make it hurt less if pain is a problem. Not sure it'll get it moving down but if it is the 'crowning' pain that is the problem this might help.

Hassled · 09/02/2012 20:44

and mamarara - congratulations. I can see why you're feeling panicky, but it will shift itself and things will be back to normal. Just don't lose sight of that.

ledkr · 09/02/2012 20:45

Defo get a microlax enema from the chemist.

ShineYourButtonsWithBrasso · 09/02/2012 20:45

Have you weighed yourself yet?

My nan would tell you to drink warm boiled water and stick a lump of soap in the turd.

It happened to me after DD3 but it turtled so I couldn't get it out or back in Blush

BorisTheBold · 09/02/2012 20:47

I had this after dd3 was born. Glycerin suppositories are the business and you or your DH can buy them over the counter at the chemist. Hope you feel better soon and HUGE congratulations on your new arrival.

zinfandel · 09/02/2012 20:50

Friend of mine told me that in a hypnobirthing class they were told to practice for labour when they were constipated by deep rhythmical breathing and not pushing to make things less painful. I have tried it once and it did work Blush Also oranges/orange juice and satsumas can get things going...
