Glad things are progressing somewhat! Good luck pet. Will keep popping in to check on how you're doing x

nickelbabe · 10/12/2011 20:13

thanks all :)
Yes, thankfully, she didn't leave it later or think it was "okay" - thankfully, she was in the right place and will get the best care.

Any advice on the nipple tweaking?

or am i going to have to google Shock ?

Congratulations ticketnickel ! You're ahead of me! Pessary hasn't done much so will be trying drip in the wee hours of the morning. Have been checking thread occasionally and sending you happy birthing vibes :) hospital has been much less scary than I thought so far. Own room is way forwards ! All the best

Usingapseudonym - it took 3 pessaries for me to get going - have they offered you another one before they go to the drip?

Nickel - hope things progress for you now you've had the sweep. Bizarrely I was reading something that involved the nipple tweaking the other day - I think you're just supposed to stimulate them by rubbing them for 3-5 minutes (If you can stand it for that long!)

ConfessionsOfATinselFanjo · 10/12/2011 21:04

Good to hear all went well for you this evening Nickel! Once this is all over you'll feel like it took no time at all, but right while you're in the middle of waiting it is the hardest thing in the world!

Looking forward to some good news tomorrow, have a good night and rest while you can

xx

PS as for nipple tweaking. Thumb, forefinger, nipple, tweak. You need to do it for quite a long time though, so no going in for a quick fumble!

EdlessAllenPoe · 10/12/2011 21:05

Hurray :)

3cm is encouraging..

Hope tonight things get moving pseudo

EdlessAllenPoe · 10/12/2011 21:06

nipple tweaking: relax and stimulate nipples in a way that pleases you. the pleasure = oxytocin.

EdlessAllenPoe · 10/12/2011 21:08

i watched telly whilst DH did the work. a good hour or so.

ASuitableGirl · 10/12/2011 21:14

Am marking my place here :)

I had a sweep with DD and was 2cm I think - she was born just under 12 hours later. And think I did most of the labour while I was asleep as woke to definite contractions wheras wuth DS they built up more gradually.

Am hoping ISBN will be here very soon :)

I've just been trying to express, like we talked about the other day.
Fun fun.
Got some contractions while doing that, bizarrely it was more when I stopped and then started again (but that might have just been coincidental!)

How long does this sweep take to do anything?
I had it before 5 o'clock, surely something must be happening now?
The contractions aren't regular or painful enough to feel important.

I'm waiting for something down there to burst...
It felt kind of bulgy when we were driving home, but nothing since we got back.

Oxytocin is the pleasure, is it?
Right, I'll get DH onto it (he's watching Foyle's war, so not doing anything important! Grin )

Fio - TMI is what we need right now - need to know a method that's worth trying. I really don't want to have to go back into Medway tomorrow - it's taking far too much time, effort and petrol!

ElfOnTheShelf · 10/12/2011 21:20

Wow 3cm dilated but only 80% effaced! Sounds like things are definitely hotting up and i predict a baby in arms tomorrow Smile Well done for having a sweep too.

nickelbabe · 10/12/2011 21:21

yes, the MW said that the cervix was still quite thick.

OP posts:
Sparklingbaubles · 10/12/2011 21:22

I have had 2 babies but I have no idea what 'effaced' means. I missed the ante natal class that covered the start of labour as I was having a scan. Hmm

Bohica · 10/12/2011 21:22

Yay, I have followed the past 2 threads but I am marking my place on this one because this is the thread your baby will born into!!

Good luck with lovely curry and sex everything.

Fuzzywood · 10/12/2011 21:23

Good luck, sounds like things are moving forward. I too predict hope fir an ISBN arrival early tomorrow Smile

MrsSnaplegs · 10/12/2011 21:24

Nickle good news about 3 cmGrin keep tweaking those nipplesWink hope things progress nicelySmile
I'm sure the other lady is in the best place and for all we don't like the medicalisation of childbirth when it's needed they do everything they can

MrsSnaplegs · 10/12/2011 21:27

Have you tried getting on your hands and knees as if you were scrubbing the floor? Supposed to be good for positioning the baby

ElfOnTheShelf · 10/12/2011 21:29

Effaced is how thick your cervix is so 0% effaced is really thick and probably nowhere near in labour whereas 80% effaced is well on it's way and once 100% and 10cm you can push that babe out - YAY! I got to 100% effaced and no dilation which is most unusual so needed help. I thought you had to be 100% effaced to dilate but evidently not as nickel proves Smile

Got3stockings · 10/12/2011 21:31

Nipple stimulation and an orgasm are what is required here. Worked for me!!!

nickelbabe · 10/12/2011 21:31

I might do getting down on my hands and knees- the MW said that the baby was too far round to the side and was close to bein back to back.
I can also do some hip circles to turn it round.
Loved the back-to-back comment, though, seeign as for 3 days they've been strapping me to a monitor whilst I'm on my back Hmm
when they monitored me today, it was so uncomfortable being on my back that i sat up after a while. much nicer like that.

Elf - did too, but I think they happen together in subsequent labours. As long as they both happen at some point that's all that matters to me! Grin
