She'll have the KY Jelly anyway so I wouldn't worry about gunkiness. Just try and keep your bum on the bed. Smile

wow, still here, I was expecting a birth announcement!

Tangle · 10/12/2011 14:35

Glad to hear you're sounding a bit more chilled about things, nickel :). I put a link to these on the other thread but think they may have got lost - so I'm going to put them again because I think they're so good :o:

  1. "Thank you so much Midwife Sinister/ Mr Hi-an-my-tee, for your advice. We will consider this carefully and let you know our decision.? Sweet Smile!
This one is most useful in the antenatal stage, though it can be used in labour. It can just take a minute to consider what you either want to know, or what you decide.
  1. "Would you like to reconsider what you have just said!? Fierce glare.
This is useful and, for example, applies to the misuse of the word "allow".
  1. ?I do not believe you can have heard what I have just said. Shall I repeat myself? ?
  1. ?I am afraid I will have to regard any further discussion as harrassment.?
This is used if the person does not respect your decision or persists in pressing the subject.
  1. ?What is your NMC or GMC pin number??
This is used if 4 is ineffective. If the person asks why you want their pin number, inform them that this is something they might like to consider.
  1. ?STOP THIS AT ONCE?.
This to be used in extremis. I am delighted to tell you that this was used AGAINST me by a woman to whom I had taught it. I was doing a difficult VE and was being too persistent. I stopped at once and learnt a lesson.

All by Mary Cronk

Sounds like you didn't get too intimidated by Dr. Melodrama, but it just gets wearing when you keep being told the same thing over and over again doesn't it?

Glad you're no longer working so much and have a bit of space to relax in. Hopefully that's all ISBN was waiting for and he/she will pop out soon :)

Tangle · 10/12/2011 14:36

Oh - and don't worry about the gunk. If anything they'll be pleased Wink

EdlessAllenPoe · 10/12/2011 14:39

in actual fact, if you want to walk out of the hospital without hearing it again, there is no law to stop you either...

anyway, bon chance and all that...

nickelbabe · 10/12/2011 14:40

yeah, I'll be looking forward to being told the same stuff again today! Grin

I'm not bothered, though.
I have been getting more tightenings today, so hopefully, if they do a sweep, it'll knock me over.
I'm still in the time limit for them not being able to give me a hard time over a HB, so fingers crossed!
(don't worry, if it looks like i'll be better off in the hospital, i will)

maybe I should put the bag of stuff in the car jsut in case.....

OP posts:
MrsSnaplegs · 10/12/2011 14:46

Just think at least if the bag is in the car murphys law states you will get a HB if you don't take it you'll end up needing itWink

EdlessAllenPoe · 10/12/2011 14:48

how's you tangle ?

nickelbabe · 10/12/2011 14:48

true.
I've got to find the other stuff they mention like comfy clothes and cameras, phones etc.
And I still don't have any music!!

Nickel I'm off to London until Tuesday but when I get back I can't wait to hear all about ISBN's arrival. Good luck :)

naturalbaby · 10/12/2011 14:54

Tangle those are brilliant!

sending homebirth vibes from my home that has seen 3 of them.
still think you should have whale music though.
maye your dh can sing for you?!?

EdlessAllenPoe · 10/12/2011 14:59

:) My house has also had 3 babies sprogged here. and not a whale noise to be heard...

Radio 4 would be ideal, but not if its a 'stabby' afternoon play...(and of course you don't get it past a certain time at night)

nickelbabe · 10/12/2011 15:06

DH doesn't sound like a whale!
He's got a beautiful alto voice, but he gets embarrassed when singing on his own, and ends up trying this mix of alto and tenor which sounds very strange Grin

No, I couldn't cope with talking radio - it drives me mad in the car, so i can imagine i would go beserk if i had to listen to it during contractions!

there are no good CDs in this house!

Do you have a laptop ? You could download music and play through that. Or borrow one and get someone to download some of your fave tunes from iTunes ?

pooka · 10/12/2011 15:14

Do put a bag in car just in case. I was having homebirtj with ds1 but when we rang no midwifed available at that time and I wanted gas and air so much and was thinking I needed to push. Got to hospital and he was born almost straightway. No bag, no clothes for him. No nappies. Grumpy midwife who said they didn't have any. Grrr. Dh grabbed a baby grow and a nappy from supermarket over the road and we were home an hour later.

Got homebirtj with ds2. :)

Jacksmania · 10/12/2011 15:22

Wishing you the best of luck today!

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 10/12/2011 15:23

My hb was to the sound if my dh flapping about the boiler Angry

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 10/12/2011 15:23

Of*

gallicgirl · 10/12/2011 15:31

I had a sweep at 40+8 and gave birth the next day - at home, I might add.
We also listened to lots of lovely music. I had this idea that the first piece of music the baby listened too would be really important. In reality I was too busy trying to hold it together (contractions a bit more intense than I was expecting!) to even hear the music and never took i-pod into bedroom when I moved to give birth.

Don't forget to chill your champers and get some nice food ready for when it's all over.....mmmmmm pate on toast........Grin

Good luck NB

Flisspaps · 10/12/2011 15:56

Absolutely second the reminder that you can walk out without seeing a consultant again, and particularly as they are only going to tell you what they KNOW you already know. If it was to tell you new information it might not be so much a waste of everyone's time...

inoutshakeitallabout · 10/12/2011 17:00

sorry to hijack but what is actually done in a 'sweep' ? sounds terrifying!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 10/12/2011 17:02

Sorry Fab - thought you were telling me off! Blush
