I'm getting really impatient, and Isbn is showing no signs of wanting to be born.

So far:
I am 40+4 today (was due on Saturday)
I am very heavy.
Isbn is currently residing on my bladder, and also a nerve on my left-hand-side hip.
It feels the lowest it has been, and I can't decide whether the tightenings are Isbn's bottom or muscles doing something.
For the past couple of days, I've been feeling sick, like morning sickness, and food has been giving me massive heartburn.

Don't get your hopes up, but I thought it would be a good idea to start the thread, because DH isn't technical enough to start one when the time comes (and is indeed very hesitant about even posting on it)

As a confirmed hater of poking it is good to know whether it's something going on (and therefore it will be your only poking) or not in which case you can expend plenty of energy getting it going without fearing your waters will go mid shag. (true story, not me).

largeginandtonic · 01/12/2011 12:43

Grin I couldn't resist. I have never had it doen before and have been subject to some fairly ermmm vigorous sweeps in previous preg's.

It really worked though! Go on do it Nickel. Be brave.

Thumbwitch · 01/12/2011 12:49

Nickel - I hope ISBN makes a move soon - but not for the next 20 hours or so, while I'm sleeping/out. Grin

Avoid being poked unless really necessary, btw. It's just nasty.

nickelbabe · 01/12/2011 12:51
Shock

I'm setting off now.
I'll let you know what she says when I get back.

It's bad enough being poked when I have the smear - that's not by choice!!

Hi Nickel, Marking my spot here for the update now that I have found you.

HugosGoatee · 01/12/2011 13:26

Are sweeps like smears then?

And I need to know about the pushing baby down thing - does it make your waters break in dramatic fashion?

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 13:46

My sweep was like being lifted off the bed by my fanjo. Bit like being a bowling ball. Blush

stripeywoollenhat · 01/12/2011 13:46

nooooo, they've been talking about sweeping me tomorrow and that sounds terrible... Shock

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 13:48

Don't worry stripey it was ok. DS arrived the next day.

stripeywoollenhat · 01/12/2011 13:55

will try not to faint and cry maybe i'll just concentrate on feeling socially awkward about the state of my lady garden to distract myself [a long long way from brazil emoticon]

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 14:15

Just concentrate on trying to keep your bum on the bed!

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 14:39

She's been gone a while...............

nickelbabe · 01/12/2011 14:41

I'm back!
The appointments were running late cos they had some problems.

She offered me a sweep, to which I said no, definitely not, but she also offered to have a poke around (obviously she didn't word it like that! Grin ), and I wasn't sure, so she reiterated it was completely up to me, and then I think i said no.

While she was doing the usual prodding about, she said "did you feel that? did it hurt?" and said that she felt a tightening. I said I thought it was her pressing on me!
which was quite exciting in itself.

sO, she said it sounds like at the moment, my body's still preparing and getting ready, and that I'll know contractions when they come - explaining that they'll last a couple of minutes, and that they'll start far apart and get closer, and as soon as I start feeling something that hurts ( like period pains, but not necessarily), that I have to start keeping an eye on them and timing them, and then watch for a pattern emerging.

She's also booked me in for the induction, and given me a leaflet, but what happens is that I have to ring on the day - if i decide to do it, they'll give me a time, and if i decide not to do it, I have to tell them, then I have to ring my MW and tell her, and then she has to tell her supervisor so that they can keep an eye on it.
I also have to have daily monitoring if i don't have the induction.
so that's next thursday, whatever I decide.

ps: I quite like that I'm being followed by others at my stage. :)
It makes me feel all comforted.

stripey - i know what you mean! I've seen mine in the mirror, and I've never seen so much hair not on a head!! Shock

What no rummaging? Sad

nickelbabe · 01/12/2011 14:45

no, no rummaging.

I couldn't decide whether I wanted her to, so she said it was up to me, and then didn't take it any further.

I think you did the right thing and it sounds to me that things are progressing, albeit slowly. We survived without sweeps/pokes years ago and babies will always come out but in their own time. The next thing will be your 'show' which generally means things are hotting up, although mine kept coming in dribs and drabs over a few days until the waters went (without help, down at the gym actually and no i didn't get a free membership wished I'd had them go in M&S)

Okay roll on next Thursday then Smile

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 14:54

My show looked like a big poo Blush.

LadyInPink · 01/12/2011 14:54

I'm thinking there may be a part deux to this thread Grin

LadyInPink · 01/12/2011 14:56

They say it's a plug so i guess it would have done sparkling

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 15:02

It happened in the middle of the night in hospital. I had to go and wake the snoring midwife up and drag her into the cubicle to show her. I think she thought I was showing her my poo. Sad

Solo · 01/12/2011 15:09

Oooh! nickelbabe! how exciting! Grin
Contractions should make you pull in a big breath and blow them out of your mouth. I found this quite an involuntary thing with Dd :) Good luck!!!x

nickelbabe · 01/12/2011 15:17

sparkly - that's gross. [boak]
