I'm getting really impatient, and Isbn is showing no signs of wanting to be born.

So far:
I am 40+4 today (was due on Saturday)
I am very heavy.
Isbn is currently residing on my bladder, and also a nerve on my left-hand-side hip.
It feels the lowest it has been, and I can't decide whether the tightenings are Isbn's bottom or muscles doing something.
For the past couple of days, I've been feeling sick, like morning sickness, and food has been giving me massive heartburn.

Don't get your hopes up, but I thought it would be a good idea to start the thread, because DH isn't technical enough to start one when the time comes (and is indeed very hesitant about even posting on it)

I was induced with all three of mine and nothing more spectacular happened other than the lazy buggers finally making an appearance. In fact DS2 arrived in 45 minutes having not even having had a twinge prior to them breaking my waters, was amazing! Oh I'm quite jealous in a strange way, I would go back and so it all again in a minute given the chance, just for that amazing moment when you meet your darling child for the first time, there is no feeling like it in the world.

I'm getting a puppy MrsChristmasDB, no morning sickness and I know exactly when he is coming Grin

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 19:34

don't worry about the head being higher!
remember it's the contractions that put the head in the right place

they don't have to force anything on you.
you don't have to have a section, if you don't want one.

I've forgotten how far on you are?
(mine's head was the same 3/5ths palpable, abd she wasn't worried at all)

also from the NICE document:
"Healthcare professionals should inform women that the available evidence does not support the following methods for induction of labour:
?
herbal supplements
?
acupuncture
?
homeopathy
?
castor oil
?
hot baths
?
enemas
?
sexual intercourse."

Ah it was the 5th sweep today. They were trying to get him out early as the last babies were big and a struggle. I am just term +4 today.

In the week his head was lower and quite well applied to the cervix but as the week has gone on he has gone up Hmm Beau (no.6) was the same. They induced me at term +10 and his head crashed on to the cervix in transverse arrest. I narrowly avoided a section as the Registrar managed to manually rotate him and deliver with ventouse. It was hellish. I was in theatre by then having signed the paperwork for a section.

I just feel like i am kidding myself. I have tried everything now. She said this morning to do nothing and see if reverse psychology worked.

"'Do not do' recommendation:In the absence of any other indications, induction of labour should not be carried out simply because a healthcare professional suspects a baby is large for gestational age (macrosomic)"

I don't know, I don't see why they don't let you go a bit longer.
It seems spurious giving you all these sweeps when it's obvious they're not working.
Confused

Hello LG&T! I didn't realise things were so imminent for you too!
Have you a scan booked? I guess a CS (although not ideal) will be better than last time.

Nickel - I'm still hopeful that you'll have your lo in your arms in the next couple of days :)

largeginandtonic · 04/12/2011 19:50

I am inclined to agree with them on this one. No.5 was shoulder dystocia at home. That was scary. Our hospital is miles away and i have rapid deliveries (believe it or not Grin) when they kick off that is.

We will see... maybe he will arrive tonight at the rush!

usingapseudonym · 04/12/2011 19:50

Nickel - I would avoid induction for a little bit if I were you but that's just because I had a bad induction-several days-c section experience. There are lots of people for whom it seems induction did actually do something useful and produce a baby.

I will get to 42 weeks and have to make some sort of decision due to c section/ big baby but I'm happy for it to get to 42 weeks first! Well not happy - I'd rather it came out...!

Fingers crossed for tonight everyone :)

LittleDonkeyhadaMadHairDay · 04/12/2011 19:50

haha nickel. What a sod Grin

Blatherskite · 04/12/2011 19:51

I nearly punched the woman who gave me a sweep with DS. It fucking hurt!

usingapseudonym · 04/12/2011 19:53

Oooh really GnT? We were planning a home birth this time but they weren't overly happy about me VBAC-ing at home, and that added with the rather big baby risk made them rather anxious about shoulder dystocia. It does sound rather scary - hope you and baby were ok.

I've managed to compromise with a MLU next to the main delivery unit so I'm still hoping for a natural birth. We will see.

largeginandtonic · 04/12/2011 19:53

Wotcha Ses! I think my sis is on a thread with you. She is MissingMalibu (notice an alcohol theme in our family!)

SESthebrave · 04/12/2011 19:57

Oh yes LG&T! She's another one due in May then :)
You and Nickel will have gorgeous 5mo babies by the time we're giving birth!

largeginandtonic · 04/12/2011 19:57

Usingapseudonym he came in 45 minutes. Had the the cord round his neck 3 times was shoulder dystocia and 2 bloody weeks late! All was absolutely fine. The midwife made me change in to McRoberts position and he popped out Smile

I had no idea he was big beforehand. No one had mentioned it. Tbh i think it was in part due to his rapid delivery, he didn't have time to restitute properly in the pelvis.

largeginandtonic · 04/12/2011 20:00

That's right Ses! She is. Her first. Am amazed i haven't put her off Grin

usingapseudonym · 04/12/2011 20:01

Glad to hear it :) I have thought to myself that mw tend to be able to deal with these things at home but it looked like they would transfer me in at the drop of a hat so we changed plans recently.

GnT and Nickel and others - are you planning hb? MLU? Normal hospitals? Pools? Epidurals and the such?

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 20:04

my friend's first had a shoulder dystoica thing - he had to have a cast for a few weeks, i think, but he's now a strapping 24 (?) year old, and has always been very athletic and sporty.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 20:04

HB for me, pseudonym and natural as poss (tens, G&A, but no water, cos I can't be arsed with the faff )

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 04/12/2011 20:07

One problem with induction is that there is no gradual build up of the pain, so I have read.

largeginandtonic · 04/12/2011 20:08

Hugo was unscathed Smile I am planning a hb. Most have been at home. Twins were a section, dd1 hb but transferred in as she was stuck, fine when we got there though, ds3 home, ds4 home, ds5 induction and dd2 home.

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 20:23

i'm really tired.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 20:24

that's a lot of births, g

OP posts:
lostinwales · 04/12/2011 20:25

I'd heard that FAB but I can't tell as it's the only way I know Grin DS1 and DS3 there was definitely a build up although if it would have been more gradual I'll never know, DS2 I must have only had about 15-20 contractions so all I can remember from that was a sense of surprise when I realised he was making his entry. Having said that I didn't have MN in those days, I think I would have asked more questions and been better prepared if I had, although I was so bored and fed up by the time I had DS1 (11 days over) my principles would have fled anyway Grin

No one on this thread will need an induction, all the babies will be out very soon with the minimum of fuss
