I'm getting really impatient, and Isbn is showing no signs of wanting to be born.

So far:
I am 40+4 today (was due on Saturday)
I am very heavy.
Isbn is currently residing on my bladder, and also a nerve on my left-hand-side hip.
It feels the lowest it has been, and I can't decide whether the tightenings are Isbn's bottom or muscles doing something.
For the past couple of days, I've been feeling sick, like morning sickness, and food has been giving me massive heartburn.

Don't get your hopes up, but I thought it would be a good idea to start the thread, because DH isn't technical enough to start one when the time comes (and is indeed very hesitant about even posting on it)

Have you tried raspberry leaf tea?

Sparklingbaubles · 04/12/2011 18:09

I didn't like the raspberry leaf as tea so I let it go cold and added lemonade. Grin

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 18:35

i'm not trying anything that might interfere with my digestive system. (too scared it'll give me the trots)
Grin

I might force DH to shag me later... Wink

You've got nothing to lose nickel. When do you next see the midwife?

EdlessAllenPoe · 04/12/2011 18:47

hmm...could be tonight.

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 18:49

i don't have another appointment.
the next thing is induction on thursday. I'm supposed to ring in the morning to make a booking if i decide to be induced, or ring them to tell them i'm not being induced. if i do the latter, i have to be monitored every day until it turns up (or gets in distress)
problem is, to be monitored, i have to go all the way to Medway, which is a proper arse of a journey (and not helpful cos I've still got to open the shop!) and they'll put me on a proper monitor for about 20 minutes each time.
I think they do this (rather than have proper monitoring equipment at Sittingbourne) so that you are pressured into having the induction.
Cos I don't see how it can make any difference having the monitoring equipment at Sittingbourne, and making it easier for us to do that. (if it's a 20minute job, they can give you a half hour appt)
The journey to Medway is sooooooooooooooo annoying, that having to go there and back every day even for a couple of days would be enough to drive anyone to say "just give me the pessary!!"

Just checking

Sparklingbaubles · 04/12/2011 18:56

Crap choices all round then then really. But it won't come to that. I would be really surprised if nothing has happened by Thursday. Smile

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 18:58

even my MW friend said that it'll be the next few days.

and god, is my fanjo sore.

well, the Nice guidelines on induction don't actually include 'piss the mother off until she agrees' ...

and i note ends with a call for further research into a proven total benefit of sweeps...

whilst denying any benefit in a good shag. anecdotally i went into labour once directly after induction-shagging. Anecdotally also, i got thrush after a post-term shag whilst PG with DD2 and then didn't even want to give birth until it cleared up....

TheOriginalFAB · 04/12/2011 19:09

A raspberry leaf tablet won't give you the trots.

and it worked for me with dc2

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 19:15
Grin no, that's true, but sometimes it does feel like that.

I suppose that most mothers who get to that stage haven't got shops to open (and indeed are on maternity leave, so don't have anything else to do)
however, it really is an annoying journey, and I can't imagine many of us Sittingbourne people putting up with it.
But what about mothers who have no car, and are relying on their DPs? they would be more persuaded by "come in, be induced, stay in" than "come in every day until something happens"

Yes, I've seen that about sweeps - I'm sure that most of these "methods" really only work when something's going to happen anyway. Like, how many posters are there here who've had more than 1 sweep and nothing's happened?

Sigh. Another day. Came home this afternoon with cramps and feeling quite rough but I think I'm just big and tired and not coping with toddler (or husband) very well. Sat down now she is in bed and nothing at all happening. Grrr.

My appointment is Thursday but thats when they make a date for induction / c section. Fun fun...lets both have ours by then?!

SESthebrave · 04/12/2011 19:17

Nickel - just checking in (and adding another post to the thread, thus helping to make it the longest live birth thread ever!) At this rate, you could go into MN Classics Grin

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 19:22

blimey
"When labour was induced using pharmacological methods (whether or not surgical induction was also attempted), less than two thirds of women gave birth without further intervention, with about 15% having instrumental births and 22% having emergency caesarean sections. Induction of labour has a large impact on the health of women and their babies and so needs to be clearly clinically justified."
(from the Nice document )

my midwife friend believes that it's time someone did more studies into the length of term of pregnancy now, especially as the dating scans are so accurate.
It seems to her that more and more women are going to 42 weeks, and that maybe that's normal (based on LMP). If you take us, and we know when we had sex, if you take 40 weeks from LMP, you get 26th November, but if you take 40 weeks from date of likely conception, you get between 2nd december and 8th december.
that's harder if the woman isn't trying to conceive, but if they looked at 40 weeks actual pg, from date of conception, then it's more likely to be 42 weeks pg from date of LMP.
We need more research done into this, but there aren't that many women who would go that far without intervention, and those that would might not want to be studied (especially because of the thing about breakdown of placenta; but who knows how accurate that is either? )

pseudonym - i know, it sucks, doesn't it? :(

My bastard DH refuses to be horrible to me (in the ope that him being a twat will make the baby come "i told you so" kind of thing)
he tried to tell me to fuck off, and called me a bitch, but it just made me laugh, because he can't pull it off!
(this was discussed after I was lookign for a psalter, and he reckoned it's downstairs, so he went and fetched it for me without me having to ask! Shock )

Nickel Sad It is so frustrating. I can see why you would pick induction. I couldn't be faffed with the trip to hospital everyday either, it is a nightmare journey.

I saw the midwife. His head is actually HIGHER ffs. I am booked to see the consultant tomorrow afternoon. They may or may not keep me in then. The midwife also said to ask for a scan first to check his (i am assuming crap) position before i let them ARM me. Otherwise it will be a section < sigh >

Joy. Deep joy.

So come along ladies i need a lovely birth to cheer me up Smile Someone has to do it soon.

Girlsyearapart names are tricky. We are still clueless for a boy name.

nickelbabe · 04/12/2011 19:32

"From 42 weeks, women who decline induction of labour should be offered increased antenatal monitoring consisting of at least twice-weekly cardiotocography and ultrasound estimation of maximum amniotic pool depth2."

that's interesting too - 2ce weekly, not daily, as i've been informed.
(area to area, i suppose)
well, it's good to know i've got that back-up.
