I just read this article and I am so shocked at how they can categorically ban cesarean sections!
www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2028443/Hospitals-ban-pregnant-women-having-c-sections-cost-cutting-move.html?ITO=google_news_rss_feed

I'm pregnant and I was going to ask for a cesarean. Reading this article has made me lose all hope.

BTW I checked and The Alexandra and The Regency don't offer maternity services.

I was talking to a doctor friend of mine who told me that in the hospital she works at, the female gyneas and obstetricians who have had children have by and large chosen to have an ELCS - their decisions based on what they have seen and know about the potential damage caused by VBs.

Catslikehats · 23/08/2011 15:50

"Ruining your pelvic floor" has very little to do with giving birth vaginally and far more to do with carrying your baby during pregnancy.

I am amazed you don't know that given all the research you sayyou've done Hmm

PrincessZ · 23/08/2011 16:03

Yes, pregnancy can cause pelvic floor damage.
However a VB makes it far, far worse as some of the posters here have pointed out.
There is a distinction made by doctors between the pelvic floor damage caused by pregnancy and that caused by VB.
A CS may not put you off the hook completely but it does reduce the damage considerably.
It also means no tears and episiotomy and no grazes. The scar in the abdomen, I can live with.
You are actually the QueenofDenial, because you don't want to accept the fact that a CS can actually have pros.
You've made it clear you don't approve of my choice.
Question is, what makes you think I care?

OP posts:
MugglesandLuna · 23/08/2011 16:05

I have had 2 CS's and 1 VB.
I dont think there are any pros of having a CS.

PrincessZ · 23/08/2011 16:08

LOL. Thats your POV.Maybe you were lucky with your VB.
I didn't ask what anyone thinks of my choice.
If you can't see the obvious pros, I don't have all day to convince anyone.
Why should I even care?

OP posts:
SaulGood · 23/08/2011 16:10

Again? Seriously?

Come on, out with it. What do you want?

Reality, wtf is going on?

picnicbasketcase · 23/08/2011 16:12

You are being very defensive, OP - people are trying to give you positives and negatives of both. You are doing the typing equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and saying 'la la la I can't hear you'. You posted asking for people's thoughts - pointless getting stroppy because people are not telling you exactly what you want to hear.

sheeplikessleep · 23/08/2011 16:12

If you're going to pay for it yourself, fair dos.

However, I struggle to think it's fair that NHS money goes on cases like yours where there is no medicial need or psychological reason for a c-sec, and maternity funds are already so overstretched.

No, I wants lucky with my VB, I had to have a ventouse delivery with 14 stitches. It was still easier than my CSs.

I think you are on a wind up tbh.

PrincessZ · 23/08/2011 16:16

I am very willing to pay for myself. Can someone please tell me where?!
Where the fuck are the bloody private hospitals for women who aren't getting what they want on the NHS?

I have no interest in using public health funds. I will point out that Canada has public healthcare too, and there you can choose a CS. So this whole excuse about public healthcare being strapped for funds is a problem HERE. Other people manage just fine.

OP posts:
PrincessZ · 23/08/2011 16:18

VonCrapp, what are you babbling about?!

OP posts:
PrincessZ · 23/08/2011 16:19

And how do you know I don't have a psychological reason?

Anyway, those don't matter a twat to many doctors. I know a victim of rape who was denied a CS in Scotland.

OP posts:
SaulGood · 23/08/2011 16:19

Princess, would you like to talk about bfing while you're here again ?

sixpinetrees · 23/08/2011 16:19

I had a nightmare 1st VB but it was a picnic compared to my CS which still hurts 2 years down the line and makes me look fat even though I weigh less than eight stone.

You don't have to 'lose hope' you just have to pay.

nunnie · 23/08/2011 16:26

"Where the fuck are the bloody private hospitals for women who aren't getting what they want on the NHS?"

You have the worldwide web at your fingertips all the information on this in in there somewhere surely?

Hope you find what you are looking for soon.

If however you can only go private in London, I personally wouldn't chance doing that journey if I labour early so it might be worth having a backup plan.

picnicbasketcase · 23/08/2011 16:29

Do you have to find this out and book it yourself, aren't you allowed to ask advice from your GP or midwives? Even if you're going outside of the NHS they should be able to tell you which hospitals are available in your area or at least point you in the right direction.

ScatterChasse · 23/08/2011 16:30

If you type maternity into the box in the Alexandra hospital site, you get this man who does private maternity care. Perhaps you could speak to him?

nunnie · 23/08/2011 16:38

Very true picnic, I was referred privately for something unrelated to pregnancy but it was all done through GP and he advised me on who he thought was best in the area etc. Always worth asking OP I am sure they will know of any in the area.

I find the saddest thing about this Princessz is you getting in the way of women who really need help and support on this forum.

We can't help you because you don't want help and we are deeply under qualified to deal with whatever unfortunate stuff is going on in your head.

Please get help

Troll? Really? I followed and remember at least some of the other threads. Posting style is different. And the level and type of detail the OP posts is different. I've spotted our hairy handed "friend" when she/he has reared his/her head - but I this just doesn't seem like the same person. The other troll threads were all about fairly extreme sets of circumstances or extreme opinions. I don't think that a preference for ELCS over VB, even without any medical/psychological reasons behind it is that extreme. Some people might not agree with it, and certainly will object to it being available on the NHS. But that's what some women would prefer - not unusual. Another reason why this doesn't feel like the same poster.

spudulika · 23/08/2011 17:16

"It also means no tears and episiotomy and no grazes. The scar in the abdomen, I can live with."

Well - you pays your money and you makes your choice!

Have to say - having had the sort of experience you fear - vaginal birth with huge baby (3 actually), forceps birth, buggered pelvic floor, resulting in long term stress incontinence, honestly I can say it really doesn't affect my quality of life in a way which bothers me. Still manage without tena lady, still have good sex. Don't smell of wee. The only thing that I don't do is go on the trampoline with a full bladder, but I don't think that's too much of a sacrifice in exchange for dodging major surgery three times.....

I think women who have no experience of birth and who fear it often focus on the worst possible scenario - obstetric fistula, catastrophic faecal incontinence etc, and it looms so large in their imagination that it comes to seem like a very major and significant risk. Actually the likelihood of truly life altering damage after a vaginal birth is probably no higher than that of life altering damage after surgery.

Cheria · 23/08/2011 17:18

Wow I was going to link to this article yesterday. Would that have made me a troll?!
