Hi all

I'm due on the 11th of March, only 12 short days away now! DS (3.6) was 12 days overdue though, so am trying to tell my brain to stop getting excited - it probably has 24 days to wait!

I hated being induced last time so have laid it on thick to my consultant so he has agreed to start sweeps from today. I'm going in at 2pm to get one. Not pleasant, but if it hurries things along, worth it. It's good to feel like I'm doing something too.

Been trying to tell baby that I'm ready for her now - have packed my hospital bag, put up the cot and even finally caught up with the washing. The last load is in the machine now, such a good feeling!

I don't really have too much to moan about about from the usual tiredness and cant-ever-get-comfy-ness. I did have a lot of pain in my pelvis up until 33 weeks, but found a rather extreme way of making it better. DS and I were in a car crash after an old man pulled out right in front of us. As we crashed my legs were jammed out straight in front of me, standing as hard as I could on the pedals. I ended up with very bruised knees, but bizarely the force of the impact seemed to jolt my pelvis back into position a bit, so now as long as I'm careful and take it easy I've harldy got any pain. DS got a bump on his head, I think his feet flew up and got him, but apart from that we were both uninjured as were the old couple in the other car. We were incredibly lucky as both cars were a write-off.

So who else is in the last few weeks? I'll race you!

Hello all! Thought I would join you. Due date today with 2nd baby. No twinges, no signs. So sitting and waiting and would love some people to wait with.

SarahScot · 23/03/2011 13:33

Sorry to hear you're STILL waiting everyone! My body seems to have no idea how to go into labour either, with both my kids I've had to be induced with the drip, but once it's in it goes superfast - 3.5 hrs with first, 90 mins with second.

Little Millie is a whole 8 days old now and she's an absolute dream. Feeds brilliantly, goes 3-4 hrs at night between feeds, no crying in between. She is BRILLIANT!

Here's hoping you all get to meet your babies soon.

sarah - i'm very happy for you and your little one.
I had my 41 +1 appointment today and baby is very happy and in no hurry to come out. MW did a sweep and now i'm having some major cramps. We'll see if it does anything for me. I really really hope i won't have to be induced. Come on baby already!!!!
clarkland - welcome
haloflo - just been out for a walk in the lovely sunshine but had to come back because i needed to wee...oh the joys of pregnancy.

clarkland · 23/03/2011 19:44

sundayb3st lets hope things are starting.x

msbossy · 23/03/2011 20:08

I'm still hanging around as well. 40+4 now.

Haloflo - this is my second and still wondering if my body knows what to do so it's not just first timers! My body managed it last time but only with the prompting of a sweep.

I've got a reflexology appointment tomorrow and failing that, a sweep on Saturday.

Anyone had any experience of reflexology actually working in this respect?

sundayb3st · 24/03/2011 16:53

Still here too...
Lost my mucous plug this morning. Not sure if that means things are on the move or if it's just the result of yesterday's sweep and nothing is really happening. Still having BHs and cramps but i've been having them for almost 5 weeks so i don't take any notice of them anymore...
Really hoping i can still avoid being induced on monday.
msbossy - no experience of reflexology but do let us know how you get on.

haloflo · 24/03/2011 19:41

sunday Losing your plug sounds promising, hopefully something will happen overnight. Plenty of time until Monday.

Did you enjoy reflexology msbossy - What does it involve? I doubt they do anything so fancy in my area. I also have a sweep booked in for this weekend (Sunday) for when I am 41 weeks. Good to hear the sweep worked for you last time as i'm not really looking forward to it although would much prefer it to induction.

clarkland · 25/03/2011 13:37

Hi all. Any news. 40 +2 and still waiting no signs. Midwife appointment at 40 +6 and she will do a sweep then. At my dating scan they did move my dates forward 9 days (which seems like a lot to me) so I don't know whether that has anything to do with it. Anyone had any experience of dates being moved forward at dating scan and then baby being born closer to your LMP date?

msbossy · 25/03/2011 18:19

Well, it doesn't look like the reflexology has done anything. It was quite relaxing but I got bad news via text just before the appt so I perhaps didn't chill into it as much as needed. The therapist manipulated and massaged my feet and spent time on the area connected to the uterus but baby wasn't having any of it and barely moved which is unusual, apparently!

Anyone else find that pineapple gives them heartburn?

So, curry tonight and sweep tomorrow...

haloflo · 25/03/2011 18:54

msbossy I'm having curry for tea tonight too, just a homemade korma though which probably won't cut it! Sorry to hear your bad news didn't make the reflexology as good as it could have been.

clarkland I was moved forward 3 days at my dating scan so based on LMP my due date was 23 March. Not sure what it means as baby still isn't here - hopefully someone else could help? Or post on the main childbirth/pregnancy forum.

missjackson · 25/03/2011 20:03

Finally had my DD 3 days ago at 40 plus 12 - am sooo glad I just waited it out as I finally went into labour naturally and the whole experience was (relatively!) peaceful and gentle - unlike round 1 with DS where I had a sweep at 40 plus 7, and then a long drawn-out labour, I think because he just wasn't quite ready and hadn't triggered the birth hormones himself.

I know they say a sweep doesn't work unless you are ready anyway, but it is a method of induction, so I do wonder..

I know how crap the waiting is though! Good luck to those still out there and congratulations to those with new babies!

clarkland · 25/03/2011 22:08

Congrats missjackson
haloflo I'll be watching out for your news

sundayb3st · 26/03/2011 10:39

missjackson - congratulations! I'm glad everything went OKfor you in the end.

I'm 40 + 12 today and really really fed up. Had a sweep on Wednesday, lost my mucous plug on Thursday, had really strong contractions last night for about 2 hours. Then they just stopped. It's so frustrating. Does any of you feel like giving up? Like it's never going to happen. I really want to have a natural birth and it's starting to look like it won't happen (being induced on Monday).

msbossy · 26/03/2011 19:38

Congratulations missjackson! I hope you're having a lovely time with your DD.

sundayb3st - best of luck for the next 36 hours. I hope it all kicks off again without you needing your appointment on Monday.

I had a sweep this morning and it feels like the start of something but I'm not getting excited just yet. They've booked me in for induction on Saturday :-(

SarahScot · 27/03/2011 21:10

Congrats MissJackson

msbossy don't be too upset at the thought of induction, I had Millie 12 days ago and was induced on the drip and can honestly say it was a really positive experience. Just make sure they put th eepidural in BEFORE the drip if you go down that route though, I was induced with DS and it was excruciating as I didn't get an epidural at all.

Being induced tomorrow. Really gutted that i couldn't have the birth i wanted. Oh well. All i care about now is getting this baby out safely. Wish me luck.

GeekLove · 27/03/2011 21:41

sundayb3st good luck for tomorrow! There are plenty of people who have had inductions and positive birth stories. I hope it works out well.

haloflo · 28/03/2011 09:11

sunday All the best for today. Hopefully losing your plug, having a few contractions means your body is nearly ready for labour and the induction will be straightforward. You will have your baby soon.

msbossy I couldn't have a sweep Sunday as it hurt too much. Cervix still very posterior. Sad Going to try again tomorrow with my induction booked for Friday.

clarkland · 28/03/2011 09:37

sunday good luck! How exciting meeting your little one today.x Let us know the news.
msbossylet us know how the sweep goes tomorrow. I have one booked for tomorrow at 40+6. I have no imminent labour signs whatsoever so not sure what my cervix is up to. How long do they normally wait before induction is considered. This is my second baby and was early by a week so this is a whole new experiemce.x

msbossy · 28/03/2011 17:05

clarkland - local policies vary but I'm booked to go in at 3pm on 40+13 with official induction date of 40+14. I guess it's pessary overnight with expected delivery the following day?

SarahScot thx for the reassurance. I'm thinking of pushing for a couple of days monitoring but I think I may have had enough by Friday. Managed at home with G&A for DD but if induced I'm definitely going to ask for epidural!

sundayb3st · 31/03/2011 16:16

Our baby girl Emma was born on Tuesday morning :)
I went in on Monday to be induced and Emma arrived early on tuesday after 11 hour labour.
So i didn't exactly have the birth i wanted but it was still a positive experience.
Any more baby news?

msbossy · 31/03/2011 18:00

Congratulations sundayb3st!

Due at hospital tomorrow for induction on Saturday. Second sweep didn't work, cervix still posterior and head very high. All suggesting things are going to be far from plain sailing. I'm terrified of ending up with episiotomy and Emcs with a 2 yr old to look after! Also less than happy that being the weekend they are bound to be short of anaesthetists and surgeons Sad. So, going to be a complete PITA tomorrow and ask them loads of questions before they do anything!

haloflo · 31/03/2011 20:57

My baby girl was born Tuesday 29th. We called her Hannah & she was 8lb 9. Waters went unexpectly Monday. Just shows u never know. Good msbossy. Ask every thing u want, its your body.

GeekLove · 03/04/2011 20:37

Congratulations haloflo ! Same birthweight as my DS2!

I am now at the stage where I am surprised that 2 weeks have gone by so quickly! Also has any ody else felt that they have gone from feeling pregnant forever to being jealous of all the other pregnant ladies? I know I have but that could be due to the fact I am not likely to be pregnant again.

msbossy · 06/04/2011 17:53

Beatrix was born on April 2nd, weighing 9lb 4oz at 42 weeks. Went to be induced but once they put me on a monitor they realised I'd been having fairly regular mild contractions (probably for a week!). Decision was made to break waters and see what happened - 3 hrs later, no other intervention, and baby was born :-).
