A lot and they broke down frequently. The ones I can remember: a Mini, a Datsun, Ford Escort. Couple of Volvos.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 26/10/2025 12:50

Motorbike and sidecar
Vauxhall Victor
Vauxhall Viva
Morris Minor
Austin 1100
Austin Allegro (The one with the weird square steering wheel)

That was it. My dad died in the late 70s and my mum never drove.

schnubbins · 26/10/2025 12:52

An Anglia
Peugeot 304
Fiat Mirafiori (one pink and one blue )
some type of Opel

Clearinguptheclutter · 26/10/2025 12:52

When I was born a red Datsun with plastic covered seats which I remember would stick to you on hot days

then a succession of VW Passats (one of which was literally the colour of 💩) and Golfs. I eventually drove to Golf once I’d passed my test (1996). I remember having to put my foot down on the golf on a motorway slip road and hope to God that I’d get up to a reasonably decent speed before attempting to merge on.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/10/2025 12:53

My dad had an Austin Cambridge, then a Rover, then a few Ford Granadas.

My mum had a little mini when I was little, then a mini clubman for years and years.

That was in the 60s/70s

Latterly mother has had an A Class Mercedes - it's a 2006 reg and has 7,500 miles on the clock. She's hasn't driven it for two years!

strawgoh · 26/10/2025 12:55

Ford Anglia, followed by a Cortina.

Its been a while @OneUmberJoker since I've seen one of your threads, have you been on holiday?

Don't bother replying folks, this poster is the queen of asking a banal question and never coming back to the thread

Ahhhhhh thanks for saying this.
I spotted another one a few days ago that’s apparently competing with this one for queen status. That posters name is something like “one pithy kitty”

Kellogs4 · 26/10/2025 13:02

Rover
Saab
Polo

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 26/10/2025 13:02

Mum a VW, Dad a Porche and a Range Rover

poshcrisps · 26/10/2025 13:06

It was a "company car". My friends in school thought we were very posh. We didn't have a garage so my dad hired one in a nearby street for it.

That's when people had respect I suppose.

whimbrelcalling · 26/10/2025 12:43

@menopausalmare I’ve just remembered the Renault 16 that my dad swore was the worst car he’d ever driven!

Someone drove into the back of my dad's Renault 16 so he replaced it with an almost identical one. The reg was OML 738E. Funny the things you remember....

Alpacajigsaw · 26/10/2025 17:34

Escort

blue mk 1
red mk 2
green mk 3

then I think they got a cavalier

TheJustJoker · 26/10/2025 18:50

Hillman Avenger, Cortina Mk.II, capri Mk.I, Ford Zephyr - but not in that order. The Zephyr was a head turner.

suburburban · 26/10/2025 20:58

Anglia, then Cortina and then volvo Estate when we were growing up

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/10/2025 07:01

I remember all my and my parents’ car numberplates. They are a very handy basis for making up passwords!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/10/2025 20:47

What a good idea! Must remember that next time I need a new password.
