The power of Mumsnet...I actually had a reasonable nights sleep!!

Work night out tonight. Bongo's Bingo in Clapham. Not sure what to expect but I wasn't going to turn it down. I'm hoping to find a good balance of doing stuff/doing nothing this year. I get so exhausted, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life on the sofa! This blasted cancer has at least resulted in the reconnection of some old school friendships. Every cloud... sometimes you just have to search a little deeper for the silver lining.

@Earlandmrsgrey oh bless you you wonderful lady.
You so deserved to have better news without all of the other recent challenges on top.
Thinking of you and hoping you can get a little joy back very soon.

AlleycatMarie · 19/10/2026 19:06

I’m sorry to read your latest update. So bloody unfair. Definitely plan that getaway break x

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/10/2026 19:29

Sorry to hear your update. There are no words other than go on that weekend away and have a fabulous time. X

Lougle · 19/10/2026 19:38

@Earlandmrsgrey I'm sorry to hear your news. It's good that Southampton can take over your care so that you don't have to travel to London. I hope you have a lovely break and that all the family health improves so you can have some quality time.

Wowsersbrowsers · 19/10/2026 20:41

What a week. If you're looking for a short break nearby we've loved all the pig hotels and there's one in the new forest that is pure bliss. Someone here also recommended canopy and stars.

JumpinBean · 19/10/2026 21:10

Sending love across the WiFi Mrs grey.
For DS2, no regrets and anyway, time
erodes debt 😉
Those bathroom fitters better get on with it, luxury bubbles are waiting xx

WatieKatie · 19/10/2026 22:35

I’m so very sorry OP. If anyone deserves a break it’s you.

You remain in my thoughts.

Harpsichord23 · 20/10/2026 08:39

Hugs across the internet x

Daftapath · 20/10/2026 11:25

Lots kind thoughts to you and your family. So much going on for you.

My dad has metastatic spine cancer too (along with other areas) and is being treated palliatively at Southampton. I hope they can help you keep on top of the pain so you can make the most of a trip away.

Missingducks · 20/10/2026 14:30

Bollox. And knickers to all the other rotten news you are being served.

May you find small pockets of joy and grab them with both hands - including a weekend away xx

Chocolatebunny61 · 20/10/2026 14:50

Really sorry to read your latest update. I hope you get to enjoy your getaway break. You certainly deserve it. Sending much love and hugs your way xx

Beachtastic · 20/10/2026 20:27

I just don't know what to say. I'm sure lots of PPs feel the same way and this is why you have so few replies. I mean we all get there eventually, but I wish I could reverse your situation. You are such an awesome human being and deserve to live for ever, free of pain (of all kinds).

namechange62 · 20/10/2026 20:44

Sending hugs and love over the internet. X

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It genuinely means a lot.

My referral to Southampton has gone through and I meet them next Thursday for a consultation.

Been busy, busy, busy! So many people want to see me which is lovely but sad at the same time. My calender is pretty full at the moment which is great as the bathroom re-fit is going to take another week and it's chaos at home. Noisy, dusty, water off, front door open, cold air in etc etc.

I've thought about funeral plans and think I've decided on a beautiful natural burial site. It's very much a wild space with no grave markers and only native flower species being able to be planted after burial. I think it's very me. The only slight issue is that I can't be buried in the dress I wanted (one that I made a few years back) as it's got some manmade fibres in it!

Trying to learn to crochet. It's something I never mastered and I've got a couple of kits lying around that need to be done. Spent hours yesterday making a bundle of knots. It really shouldn't be that hard!!!

The roof lantern in the living room sprung a leak during the storm yesterday. Just a few drops but something else to go on the to do list.

Have a good weekend everyone and do me a favour. One thing I've learnt from all this is that life can be short and snubbed out so very quickly and easily. Just don't come up with barriers to meeting up with the people you love. If you want to do something then do it. Burn the good candles, wear the expensive perfume and use the cutlery set you got from Great Aunt Agnes every day and not just at Christmas. There's no such thing as 'for best'. Enjoy nature, listen to the birds and jump in the puddles.

xx
