Peachy, I think you need to tell us all about the Cobb.

I accidentally watched the promo video a few days ago. I think I probably need one now dagnamit.

So you need to give us the complete low down.

Did you get the full all singing all dancing set?

What fuel do you use?

Have you really cooked a whole chicken in it? was it a moist bird?

And jacket spuds?

How much can you shove in there?

is it a pita to clean?

How long does it stay hot for, so can you do your fish and then stick some bananas in foil in afterwards?

How high up on your list of essential camping kit is in now?

can you get them in different colours so I can get one to match my tent

Tell me us EVERYTHING.

please

I'm hoping the A in your pmsl is a typo and not indicitive of, um, well, problems with your water works.

[anatomical boggles]

I am poking my animals lightly

What else oculd it be?

Slubberdegullion · 23/06/2009 17:56

well thank goodness for that. I was terribly uncomfortable for a moment there imagining what was going on. It all sounded messy in the extreme.

RE the beer bread.

There is no yeats in the recipe given below...how can that work??

Am definitley excited about a Cobb.

Slubberdegullion · 23/06/2009 18:13

I have just realised that indeed to pmsl would indeed indicate waterworks and mess ishoos, but to pmal is The Next Level.

I needed to clear that up, in case you thought I was odd.

Shit, I hope Mr Cobb man isn't reading this thread, it all started so well with the Cobb Love and has now deteriorated to all things potty, as so often occurs on mn.

Slubberdegullion · 23/06/2009 18:17

Oh good show Blu for bringing this thread out of the mire.

I think it is the fizzy yeast gas ( non technical term) in the beer that gives it a bit of a rise. It's not a light loaf mind. It's quite, oh what's the word, you know

a bread for real men and women with body hair and stout feet.

Slubberdegullion · 23/06/2009 18:17

I want to say rustic but that isn't it.

OP posts:
PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 23/06/2009 18:26

Heavy? Leaden?

Slubberdegullion · 23/06/2009 18:32

I'm sure in Australia it's called damper bread, or something like that. You need to eat it outdoors, when it's just out of the firepit/cobb/cooking appliance with lots of butter and then it is fab. If you eat it in the cold light of day it's a bit binding.

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 23/06/2009 18:34

Damper Bread. I see in that recipe they use SR flour so that would help with the lift.

Blu · 23/06/2009 22:17

Or you could just drink the beer and get your bread from the little shop at reception?

VanillaPumpkin · 24/06/2009 13:03

I vote for drinking the beer . It is a nice idea and all but......

Slubberdegullion · 24/06/2009 17:58

[not understanding]

What is all this with 'drink the beer'? Surely you do not have just one beer? Where I come from we have multiple beers (often they come packaged together for ease of transportation). With a set up such as this you can make bread AND drink simultaneously if you so desire.

And I do desire it, most greatly.

I sooooo just want to order a Cobb right now.....

Peachy - What accessories do you have/use/wish you had????

VanillaPumpkin · 25/06/2009 21:44

I have just ordered my Cobb.....

I figured I am in charge of food and so I need the right equipment .

Oooh I am excited (and a bit scared...)

DH has chosen the roof box but I will now have to wait for at least three weeks while he reviews and thinks and reviews and thinks (....misses a camping trip when we need the roof box....) reviews and thinks before he finally orders it .

Slubberdegullion · 25/06/2009 21:49

yaaaaaaaaaaaay . I hope you put mn in the 'where did you here about us' box.

Mine arrived today and is spread all over the kitchen table. I have griddles and frying pans and all sorts. The recipe book is a bit 1970s but it is all VERY EXCITING.

I plan to stick a chook in on saturday, go to village fete and return to moist bird and spuds.

It's quite a big thing so Pumpkin steer your dh in the direction of the LARGE roof boxes.

VanillaPumpkin · 27/06/2009 15:37

I did indeed put MN in the where did you hear about us bit .

Did you go for the full monty then? Did you get the freebie extras? Did you did you?????

I reined myself in a little and went for the £110 package. I am intending to make everyone jealous with roast chicken next weekend so please let me know how it goes.

Did you get cobblestones or heat beads???
I couldn't decide (and DH wouldn't discuss it with me) so got both .

VanillaPumpkin · 27/06/2009 15:38

Oh and I am glad it is big as the thing putting DH off was that it would be too small to cook for us all!!!

daisydancer · 27/06/2009 20:26

Having read all of this with great interest, I have just ordered a Cobb! I only went for the roasting rack as an extra. Should I have gone for the pans as well? Would my own small wok or frying pan do? How exciting! Can't wait to try it . Camping cooking will be revolutionised!

Slubberdegullion · 28/06/2009 15:41

Cobb Feedback No 1:

It's marvellous. amen

Yesterday I did a roast leg of lamb with red wine and garlic in the moat. it was a bit overcooked (I like it a bit pink) but that is a timing thing. om nom. For pudding i did bananas and choc in foil and everone was very happy

Today I did roast chicken stuffed with lemons with white wine in the moat. While it was resting I made a ratatoille in the wok thing. It was a MOIST BIRD. hurrah. om nom nom.

It is my new most favorite camping item

Vanilla I bought the cobblestones, easy peasy and they hardly smoke at all.

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 28/06/2009 16:08

+LOL vanilla- too small? We ahve 4 kids, BIG is the state of standard here!

Slubber glad you love it

Cobblestones are indeed fab, would recommend them.

I do think anyone buying should put MN on and CObb owe me a few quid for references I think (or I'd take their proper Cobb frying pan for a bribe instead )

VanillaPumpkin · 28/06/2009 17:51

Oh brill, thanks for the feedback ladies. I am very excited now

As Daisy says though can I use a normal frying pan on it??????

Oh and Slubber, I read on another thread that your kettle doesn't whistle. That needs to be rectified as a matter of some urgency imho .

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 28/06/2009 18:35

YOu can use another frying pan, yes- we bought a cheapo when we were away did fine

daisydancer · 28/06/2009 19:06

Thanks Peachy. I'll save a little towards a lovely new tent for next year then - or a little extra wine for this year's trip!

VanillaPumpkin · 28/06/2009 19:55

Thank you.

I tried to fry bacon in a saucepan last trip and so treated ourselves to a frying pan before researching the Cobb. Glad to hear I can use it
