...and I just spent £70 on a three ring burner last year and I can't even remember how much on the large gas bottle to go with it..... :(

They look so good!!!
We're a vegetarian family so camping i found it a bit limiting with just stove top, to be able to bake pizza and bread and things would be amazing.
Seriously, are they as good as they look?
Could I could a large pizza, and vegetables and potatoes all at once? Are they expensive to run (if we got one we would use it for evening meal and a one ring burner for boiling water for tea/coffee)
Or should I just stick to our burner that has only been used for one week last summer!!!!
I know it's only january but already I am dreaming about getting out in our bell tent again.... speaking of that, could we use it to cook inside our bell tent or not? We didn't use or camping stove inside last year, we cooked in front of the tent...

I am still pondering whether to go ehu and take the bread maker. I currently have a rather yummy smelling brioche in. Hmm. Could also then take the tassimo and have brioche and cappuccino for breakfast.

I expect slubber milks a squirrel and froths it with the frilly end of its tail.

Breadmachine in a campsite? Whatever next?
can't you just make dampers (mix flour and water dough in a bucket, wind strips round the end of a stick and cook in campfire then fill insides with jam and eat. Yummy. Or at least, was yummy last time I did it in 1979.)

brambleschooks · 07/01/2011 21:13

I have friends who take a fridge full of m n s meals and a microwave.

I will remain resolutely ehu free.

As long as I can continue to charge the iphone in the car.

i have said it before, if you are even thinking about fridges, ehus etc you need to give in an get a camper or [whispers] caravan.

Did you used to live in America ButterflyEffect?

dh has done quite a lot of backpacking in America but I would be worried about bears....

I went into Lakeland today and saw the Cobb!as pretty inpressed with the size,we could squeeze that in with a single burner. Also, I noticed it said on the side of the box you can cook pasta, has anyone done this and if so, how? We ♥ pasta dishes!

I have a campervan and do love it for the fridge, the hob/grill, the propex heater so I can use it all year round and the fact I don't have to put it up/take it down. But God its cramped and there are only 2 of us. I miss the space of a large tent.

I sometimes think about selling the van and getting a bigger car and/or trailer so I can take more stuff camping with me. Never used EHU when I had a tent but couldn't go back to the days of no fridge now. Then I sometimes think about getting a caravan to tow behind my campervan Grin. At the minute I bought a fairly large pop-up tent that we use for storage which is good. But still not as nice as a big Outwell tent.

Slubberdegullion · 08/01/2011 14:40

Lol poppy, for a moment there I thought you were being particularly sweary about pasta. I've never actually cooked the pasta itself on the Cobb as ime you can't get a hearty boil on it. I tend to do the pasta on the gas burner ( using the toppiest tip I ever learnt on mn that you don't need to boil it constantly, just bring to the boil, put lid on, turn off gas and wait for 15 min).

What I do do is do a gorgeous ragu or bolognese or sausage stew extravaganza in the wok on the cobb and then add the cook pasta in at the end.

Viva I think the best combination for camping is camper van plus tent. It's what we had when I was a child. When I become exceedingly rich I will have one of the new VW californias plus a de waard pyramid. Then I will be in camping utopia.

VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2011 14:54

I think you're right Slubber. I probably need to upgrade my tent, the Qercha pop up thing is ok but quite small. Its one of the ones you can stand up in but not much floor space. We don't really use it for anything apart from putting the porta potty in if we need that and for getting changed in/storing clothes. Not sure if we had a bigger tent if we'd use it more on rainy days for reading, etc in it or not. Maybe its just the faff of going from van to tent which puts us off. And the van is generally warmer and has comfy seats.

I like the look of this tent, looks easy to put up.

outwell fusion

Slubberdegullion · 08/01/2011 15:06

Wow, that's quite a decent size for a pop up isn't it.

What I loved ( as a child) with the whole tent n camper combo was that you could set your beds up in the tent when you got wherever you were going and there they would stay, and you never had all that pulling out tables and pissing about with shoving sleeping bags into bags like you have to do when it's just the camper.

Plus you don't get the sound of rain on canvas or the smell of rain on canvas in the camper.

VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2011 16:01

We always currently sleep in the van and it is a real pain sorting the bed out, its a homemade wooden bed/seat and is a bit fiddly. Maybe I'll treat myself to a Bluebird bed with a one touch release thingy.

Slubberdegullion · 08/01/2011 17:11

Cor , one touch release sounds most snazzy.

I tried to persuade dh last year that our camping holidays would be even more amazing and fabulous ( read: dry, warm comfortable) if we had a camper as well as the tent.

Thanks for the tip slubber, I can't wait to try that pasta tip, I have never heard/read about it! Smile

It was a revelation to me too! If you are camping in bastard syphilitic freezing weather then sometimes half way through I switch the gas on again to get it up the boil, and then turn it off, but it really works and really saves on gas bottle usage.

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 08/01/2011 21:34

I didn't know about the pasta thing either- good to know!
We eat alot of Cous Cous camping as it aslo takes v little time on hob: butter, quick fry then boiling water then cover and leave for 10 mins off the hob- frees up a ring and good with goulash/stew type meals.

Did the meet up happen last year? I was heavily pregnant and lost track of it all.

We have a six man which is great for longer camps, but for camping lite (overnighters or weekends in abersoch etc) I am currently pondering this page

Slubberdegullion · 09/01/2011 20:24

Oi bramble (loving the namchange btw) I thought you already had an outwell pop up?

brambleschooks · 09/01/2011 20:35

Twirls. In celebration of stopping studying for a little while.

I do, but its only a 2-3 man, which is fine as the boys and myself cram in for an overnighter. Need a bit more space for the four of us, especially given the size of the giant teenager now. Glad I hung on to purchase- didn't fancy new tent getting nibbled by rodents over the winter and now the price has gone down. :)

I will not tell you what I found in the cake cupboard. Thank god for cake tins. However, the small gap at the back of the cupboard is now sealed, the cupboard and tins bleached and I am considering walling up large dumb cat in the cupboard on point duty overnight.

Slubberdegullion · 09/01/2011 20:49

Oh dear. The mice have returned have they? Little bastards.

Doramustdie · 09/01/2011 20:53

We have a mini weber BBQ. Very good it is too. Can recommend.

brambleschooks · 09/01/2011 21:16

Hens eat mice. Maybe I should shut them in the cupboards overnight. Once you have seen two hens arguing over a mouse body you know you have lived.
